Hey Guru, if you think that Manning revolutionized the position by becoming an "on field offensive coordinator", then you know nothing about how games were conducted in the 50's and 60's. Question: Who called the plays during Johnny U's era? Did they relay thru Motorola headsets to give him the play or discuss an 'instant' defensive films or do you think they used hand signals? What?? Other than an ocassional alternating TE bringing in a play, the responsibility, as to what play was to be called, rest solely with the on field general or QB. They don't even call today's QBs generals anymore because they are just another position like a linebacker nothing special about
