Jamie Dukes (yeah, I know) ranks the best organizations in the nfl.

If you're too lazy to click the link, or if you can't watch the video, here are his picks:

1. New England Patriots
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
3. Baltimore Ravens
4. Indianapolis Colts
5. Dallas Cowboys

Since it is Jamie Dukes, we all know he's going to pick the Cowboys, but I was surprised that he chose the Ravens.
Thoughts?

I think the Dallas pick is a joke. Your looking at a Organization that hasn't won a playoff game since the 90's. We're talking about a locker room that is an Elephant away from being a cricus. We're talking about a Owner/GM that can't seem to get out of his own way. A OC that makes more money then the HC.

My pick would have been someone like Tennesse or San Diego. In the case of Tennesse they generally seem to draft well, same coach for about a decade, usually puts a winner on the field each year. Or even the Egales, anybody but Dallas in the top 5.

My honest top 5 without my purple shades would probably be:

1) Colts
2) Steelers
3) Patriots
4) Giants
5) Titans

The Ravens arent on my list, although if you had to pick the top 5 in the league from last year, I'd throw the Ravens under the Steelers probably. We are definitely headed in the right direction to be in the top 5 for a long time coming.

My Unbiased Top 10:

1) New England Patriots
2) Pittsburgh Steelers
3) Baltimore Ravens
4) Indianapolis Colts
5) New York Giants
6) Philadelphia Eagles
7) San Diego Chargers
8) Green Bay Packers
9) Tennessee Titans
10) Houston Texans

I know the Texans sounds questionable at #10, but they've been steadily improving since 2005/2006-ish. Their drafts have been outstanding the past few seasons, and they're finally starting to understand what it takes to build a winning team.

i don't think we deserve to be in this list, but I do think if there was a "Best in the Bizz: GM's" Then ozzie no doubt should be on it.

I think we deserve to be in the top 5, mainly because of Ozzie's success at evaluating talent and because there haven't been many disciplinary issues with our players. That goes a long way, because there's no point in acquiring great talent if they can't even stay on the field and produce. (I'm looking at you, Dallas.) Additionally, attendance at Ravens games are consistently in the top 10 of the league, and the team brings in lots of revenue. That's not to mention the number of star players on the roster, and the number of Pro Bowl apperances our players have had in only 13 or 14 seasons of existence. To have so much success in such a short time speaks volumes of the caliber of the organization.

The Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars have been around roughly as long as the Ravens have, and they haven't even touched our level of success, both financially and on the field.

Hard to argue with that top 5.

I actually like your Houston selection; I used to hate Casserly but the guy has earned my respect over the past couple years.

Oh shizznit. I put "don't" ouch, My bad on my part. Anyway I agree with what Dukes said. We send players to a probowl every time! And most of them are or have been our 1st round picks, I just wish Ngata and Flacco will make it.

I would have been surprised if we weren't on there.... I mean we hold the best home record in the NFL (percentage wise) we constantly put out one of the best defenses in the league, then theres the pro bowlers/HoF's, theres the SB, and Ozzies Draft record to say the least.... and I gotta say, his top 3 I think is the most accurate thing I've seen him do yet

Top 5 I'd throw the Eagles, Giants, or Chargers in there

no, we def are in the top 5 organizations, we might have some off years, but my reasons are stated above... I can't really argue with his top 3... his bottom 2 that is a different story

I love the Ravens with all my heart, and I care a lot about them... Look at me i am talking like they all together are one important person... and in my eyes they kinda are...

But it is way to early to call them a top 5 organization...

Its just biased to say they are.

Yeah, alot of Duke's criteria had to do with recent events. That's the only way that you can leave out teams like Green Bay and San Fransisco.

Well said... but come on, Houston? Imho Jacksonville and Carolina deserve it more than they do.

I'm curious.....

To the people who believe we do not belong on this list, why?
[/quote]

Why? We aren't one of those teams "year in - year out" that you fear to play. On a management side we are top 5 easily. We draft well, retain players, keep players in line etc. etc. But we aren't a team like the Colts, Pats, or Steelers who every year you KNOW they are going to be good.

Now im not saying we weren't good, but there were huge question marks for us last season, and it all turned out very very well. (new coach, new QB etc.)

for the second list, why would you put us below the colts.... they have just as many superbowls as us in the last ten years, I ask cause I know you have a reason... your like a statistical mastermind

I can think of a few reasons. The Colts have not missed the playoffs in six or seven straight years and the majority of the time they get in because they are at the top of their division, something which we rarely are. They also have won no fewer than 12 games for several seasons in a row.

Well, I had a great point to make but I forgot! DOH!

Oh I remember now!

If we don't belong on this list, than I wouldn't have seen 2 or 3 other lists like this which also had us in the top 5.

since 2000 for postseason records we are 7-4
since 2000 for postseason records the colts are 7-7

we both have a superbowl victory since then

since 2000 our regular season record is 83-61
since 2000 the colts regular season record is 101-43

We currently have 2-3 future hall of famers (if you count rod woodson, we have 1 in the HoF as well)
They have 1 currently in the HoF with 1-2 Future HoF
(not including the baltimore colts... cause you could argue that they belong to the team or the city)

the only category they are signficantly better than us in is regular season wins... but that doesn't mean anything, look at dallas....

this is w/o comparing draft history, and probowl appearances
since 2000

I totally agree with you. Not to mention the fact that Steve Biscotti is a great owner who lets his staff make the important decisions without his interference

darklight's post says alot of my reasons ill just add my voice

in nine years so far in this decade they made the playoffs 8 times...thats amazing

it was close as you yourself have stated but i gave it to them because of their
amazing consistancy

and I don't mean to be making up reasons to give the ravens an edge, but part of his reasoning (god i can't believe i'm actually defending dukes) was w/ pro bowl appearances by the teams.... and how they overall drafted.... and in the patriots case, how they had to deal with changing of coordinators/coaches on a constant basis

once you throw those #'s in I would unbiastly (as unbias as i could be as a ravens fan) have to say you would have to put ravens #3 colts #4.... but it would be pretty close..... but hell surprised we actually had some kind of respect from the media by even being put on that list
