So, if Mason retires the 10 million dollar figure someone else talked about is about right? Nice to know. Call me crazy but I think we can get Ngata, Gaither, and maybe Landry or McClain an extenstion under that, especially if the team parts with Frank Walker and/or Ayenbadjo. I think its pretty safe to say atleast one of them if not both of them are out. Unless, we suffer a major injury at CB, I'd bet my bottom dollar that Walker was gone.

I'm not sure they could get all of those guys, do because they would still need to carry around 3-5M into the season in order to cover themselves for injury replacement as guys go on IR.

Another candidate for an extension - and he wouldn't cost that much - is Sam Koch.

I think it would be wise for them to see Gaither play at a high level before committing to him long term, given the size of deals that LTs command.

If Walker is cut they get an additional $1.6M, but given that the cap space isn't really a necessity now - barring the acquisition of a top WR - I think his roster spot is more safe now. He still might not make it, but he is by far our biggest, most physical CB.

Releasing Ayanbadejo would actually cost them more cap space because of the acceleration of his remaining unaccounted-for bonus shares. Since he's actually cheaper to keep, there's really no reason to let him go.

Seems like even with Oher and Kruger signed, we'd still have $6.25 mil left in cap space. Or $9.25 if Mason files his papers.

That seems too good to be true

I thought rookie signings didn't count against the Cap and the money was already allotted for the Draft picks.?
It's a seperate calculation, but not a total seperate pool of money. It's actually a "cap within a cap", but there's not a dollar-for-dollar correlation to the overall cap because at this time of year, only the top 51 cap numbers count against the cap and usually the cap numbers of the lower draft picks are not among those 51.

Here is a more detailed explanation:

Does anyone know how much cap room we have left after Mason returning and signing our rookies?
Mason never retired so that didn't affect us and the rookie signings don't really affect the cap either (they do, but they really don't.....it was explained above). From my understanding we're still at about $7M
