So, if Mason retires the 10 million dollar figure someone else talked about is about right? Nice to know. Call me crazy but I think we can get Ngata, Gaither, and maybe Landry or McClain an extenstion under that, especially if the team parts with Frank Walker and/or Ayenbadjo. I think its pretty safe to say atleast one of them if not both of them are out. Unless, we suffer a major injury at CB, I'd bet my bottom dollar that Walker was gone.

Idk Frank Walker played decently last season. It wouldn't suprise me if he was gone though. He had a knack of taking foolish penalties, he played decently on special teams last season. Ayanbadejo stays i think he's very valuable to special teams.

Seems like even with Oher and Kruger signed, we'd still have $6.25 mil left in cap space. Or $9.25 if Mason files his papers.
[/quote]

That seems too good to be true

Not Only that but, WE ARE STACKED AT CB. haha. I mean we have so far that would make the roster.

1. Washington
2. Foxworth
3. Rolle
4. Webb
5. Carr
6. Walker
7. Gerard Maybe?

And who knows derrick martin could push for a job. but yeah we might let walker go anyway if gerard starts lighting it up and Webb lives up to his potential

I thought rookie signings didn't count against the Cap and the money was already allotted for the Draft picks.?

so we have about 10 mil with mason retiring
AFter Walker is cut there will be about 12 mil.
2 mil for the rookies first year contract and that leaves us with 10 mil to play with.
I think we should cut Ayanbadejo, Nakamura was a great leader on ST last year and called the snaps.
Ellerbe is younger and could turn into a starter one day, not today but one day

That would leave us with about 11 million, Take into account there will be guys that dont make the roster who have higher salaries than those who do so beacuse the highest 53 players are agaisnt the cap right now i imagine it should go donw another 2 million or so

So with about 13 million to play with i think we should lock up Haloti Ngata with a 7 year extension so he can be here for life and that would probs leave us with about 5 million which we should keep incase of injuries throughout the year.

We have to get Ngata and Gaither locked up long term aswell as Fabian, LeRon and Dawan aswell as Marshall Yanda
Those are the key guys that we need to lock up in the next two years.

Cut Ayanbadejo? He's been to the Pro Bowl the last 3 consecutive years, even edging out another ST specialist in Kassim Osgood, who was a perennial Pro Bowl selection before Brendon moved to the AFC. And with our devoting to field position, that will likely, and hopefully never happen.

Yes but Darren Stone was our best ST last year
Ayanbadejo got into the pro bowl because of the fans. He didnt deserve to get in one bit

Ont worth the 1.5 mil we are paying him. i would rather take the younger Ellerbe who has half the cap number and an abudance more potential

Ayanbadejo doesnt help us with field position. Sam Koch does and then a fast guy. Stone did it last year even Yamon Figurs had a quite a few downs inside the 10 and 5.

Id rather go without the 32 year old Ayanbadejo unless he takes a pay cut, im just glad this is the final year of his deal ( atleast i think it is)

It seems awfully difficult to evaluate whether he was overrated or not, considering there arent any specific stats to compare in order to do so properly. If he wasnt of any assistance, he wouldnt even be included in ST, since there would be no value to his presence. Besides, fans only account for 1/3 of the vote, so he had to have had some real recognition from the players and coaches, no? And I wouldnt mention Darren Stone. It's still too soon following that penalty against the Steelers. Smh.

Cutting these players would only open up fractions a million not worth it to squeeze every penny for a signing.

It's hard to say who will be cut but we do have depth at the DB positions. I'm sure there will be a few casualties but I'm just glad Suggs is signed. Hopefully we can get everyone else signed soon and start evaluating everyone in training camp.

Due to our innumerable rising, young defensive stars, I don't think that there is a chance of us signing an elite receiver for 10 million a year. I think the best prospect is drafting receivers who are MUCH cheaper

EDIT: to 2nd post, there is NO WAY Oher gets that much
I was looking at about 5 yr 13 million

All I can say is I'm excited to sign our draft picks and then see what other deals the savvy master Ozzie can make for our team. Surely he senses, as do we, that we are very close to winning it all.

Funny we were talking about Frank in your sig you can see Frank Walker give a block after already being in the endzone.

I don't think we will do any long term signings this year, unless it is with Mason next week. We might as well blow the rest on a cap on a Free Agent WR and not let the money expire into next year. Keep in mind it would be a one year signing so it would effect next years cap, unless the player performs and we wish to make it long term. The question is who gets the contract.

More like

1. Foxworth
2. Rolle/Washington
3. Washington/Rolle
4. Martin
5. Webb
6. Walker
7. Gerrard/Carr

And everyone moves up one when Rolle gets injured/retires.

Coaching staff loved Martin last year. I believe he is one of those late round gems that just needed some time on the bench and them some real playing time. I believe he learned a TON from watching C-Mac and Rolle because he shows characteristics from both guys now. He improved a lot in camp and impressed the staff so they felt comfortable with him on the field considering all the injuries, but then he got injured too. Martin also played very well in preseason, give him some playing time and i think he will work his way up the depth chart. I don't think Carr will be on depth for CB, he isn't very good but is a return man.

We're stacked at CB but have no real #1 CB that can handle the pro bowl WRs of the NFL, if we run into bigger guys like Brandon Marshall, T.O etc it will be tough, but thats the sacrifice we made in order to have depth at the position.

I wouldn't trust that thing, Bart Scott is still lined up next to Ray Lewis.

I wouldnt be surprised if they kept Gerard. I've read that our coaching staff really likes him. Last year we carried 5 S on the active roster, at all times. We had 5 going into the season and then once Landry went down we pick up another one in Stone. I think we go with the 4 S we have and carry a 7th corner. Since, Carr and Webb can also provide depth at S. I think Gerard makes it over Walker for salary cap purposes only.

if you watch the "Behind The Bench" of that week you will see Ed say that Ruki called that play and basicly let Ed know where they were gonna throw it

Take a look at all our young players.... the future is bright!!!
