Someone said if we don't get pressure on the QB, our secondary will get burnt - isn't that the case for all teams? Not even an all-pro secondary can cover receivers for long.

I said if they don't get pressure on the quarterback RELATIVELY FAST. See, a good secondary can give the pass rush time to get there. But our guys blitzing won't have that luxury. They won't have the kind of time to do 2 or 3 moves and circle around to get the QB pressure very often. Look, it's all opinion... sure, but I don't see any reason to get excited about Dominique Foxworth, Frank Walker, or Chris Carr. Fabian is above average at coverage but these other guys haven't proven anything.

Fabian Washington is shut down. Samari age has only shown in durability not coverage. Frank Walker is possibility the BEST Dime back to play the game of football as he could be #1 some teams or #2 on most teams. I have great expectations for Foxworth to be just a step behind Washington.

As far as pressure goes: Lewis, Suggs, Gooden, McClain, Barnes, Burgess, Pryce, or Landry...not an issue.

Granted that none of our corners have really proved anything, but if you look at our corners. All speed. People aren't going to be able to just burn them deep. Our cornerbacks main weakness are the big physical receivers because they will get muscled. But there aren't enough big receivers like Andre Johnson to make me worry about how our cornerbacks are going to get beat.

I think we have the rush to not give up the big play often. As has been said, our corners are too fast to be beaten deep and we have excellent cover in terms of Reed and the returning Landry. Throw it deep if you dare opponents... infact, throw at your peril - we have excellent LB coverage and a much improved secondary.

I've heard that Nakamura has been a beast during OTA, consistently around the ball. We lost so much with Corey Ivy on the field last year. If Ivy wasn't blitzing he was a liability. I think u will see a lot of Nakamura in that Dime package biltz role. He will improve that positon imo.

Looks like we will see a lot more of him and possibly Zbikowski coming off the edges this year.

No doubt an elite Safety emerging between the two, if not both. Webb is impressing and hasn't even touched the field yet.

Funny thing is those are probably the 3 matchups I'm looking forward to most! If you can't beat elite teams what gives us the right to call ourselves "elite".
Also lookin forward to week 6! man o man Im gonna do everything I can to go to that game and rep the REAL purple.
[/quote]

i understand what your saying but if two elite teams play and one lose does that mean the one that lost is not elite?

Well I think Barnes wants to break out already. He's a beast the Ravens are holding back and I feel if we unleash him this year (as long as he doesn't get injured) he will really impress everyone. Him and Burress I put money down on, on impressing. Even though Gooden will most likely win battle, whose to say he and McClain won't share time at the position. Of course you don't want to tire them out, so they may rotate and this will really reak havoc on oppsing offencese.

i think burgess is gonna be this years dan cody if injured one more time.

Our D is going to be Top 5 like it is every season... Suggs will have double-digit sacks, Ray Ray will have 125+ tackles, Reed will have 6+ picks, etc.

i think reed will be doing alittle more blitzing...i think he was injured during the beginnng of the year wasnt he? like some kind of spine thing...maybe cant remember...but as long as we keep our organized chaos, i think we stay at the number one D...overall

No way Reed blitzes more with that nerve impingement in his neck... he can barely tackle as it is, why risk his career when we can send Landry, etc., assuming HIS neck is fully recovered...

Agreed. His instincts are too valuable to risk. The less tackling for Reed means the longer he can play.

Since we lost AD our sack numbers have depleted a lot. I think thats why Ozzie brought in Kruger. JJ is a good player but the numbers don't lie.

2005 42 Sacks
2006 60 Sacks

Without AD

2007 32 Sacks
2008 34 Sacks

If we can put a presence that can produce sacks on both sides of our LBs then we are set. JJ just doesn't get the job done.

Heres the thing...

We had a pretty average 34 sacks but we still came 2nd in pass D, by comparison the Jets had 41 sacks and were rated 29th in pass D.

I think our defense focused more on "pressure" than sacks. Pressure forces the QB to make mistakes which leads to turnovers.

I find it amusing that we are ranked around 10th in sacks for our defense and we are acting as if our pass rush is horrible and we can never get to the QB. How spoiled are we? :D

Yep. Trevor Pryce said the exact same thing you did in a soundbite during the Miami Replay game.
