Suggs Resigns! $63M/6Yrs

130 posts in this topic

Wow, Suggs turned down Jared Allen money to take this deal? *sarcasm*

Glad this is over with. Now get the rookies into camp so we can turn our attention to Ngata, Gaither, F. Washington, McClain, and Landry. Yeah, we've got a lot of young guys up for FA next year.

I'm rather new to all the salary cap terminology, especially in the NFL; with that being said, do we have the money to resign all those guys?

I it's a good deal imo. Not really a hometown discount but not bank breaking either. I honestly think that if Suggs would have hit the open martket he would be gone.

Suggs has said numerous times that he wanted to be in Baltimore, and with Peppers not signing, he could have held out for the money. So i think he really showed that he wanted to be here, and 40 million in 2 years don't hurt either.

Having the money front loaded will allow the Ravens to do more on the back end. So Gaither and Ngata will be able to get deals done within the next 2-3 years.
Pretty good of you to see that immediately, I didn't even thought of that when I read it. :)

OH JOYOUS DAY!
For a guy who hasn't missed a game in 6 years, still young, 3-time pro-bowler... I couldn't disagree with the money they gave him one bit. Noticed a lot of folks on the nfl.com boards are saying we over-paid, but screw that. He deserves every penny.

Good job Ozzie. Thank you T-Sizzle!

We can dream. If we have the uncapped season we can cut some of the dead weight. I know this is unpopular around here but McGahee's contract has to go especially if he isnt performing like a top rb, and his cap hits began to get top running backish next year.

Let the haters hate, my man. They're probably mostly annoyed at the fact their respective teams never got a shot at him.

Wow! I thought Suggs was going to wait for that Haynesworth money, now I can exhale. I guess Suggs really wanted to be a Raven! 33.1 Mil signing bonus.

GREAT news, especially with the recent Derrick Mason issue. I'm just glad we can finally put this topic to rest and people will stop bashing Suggs for unfounded reasons.

Suggs has definitely improved as a player but I would really like to see him topping 10 sacks a year like he did his first two years.

This is gonna be a pretty big story around the league due to the size of the contract. How long til the deadline? Sorry I'm in New Zealand and semi-oblivious to the time in Maryland right now.
The deadline was at 4pm eastern time, i read that they got the deal done late last night.

3-time probowler
Cant believe I did that.... And I always brag to my friends when we were arguing about his franchise tag/contract - "he's only been in the league 6 years and made the pro bowl 3 times"
edited and corrected.... thanks

now that we have him locked up, lets remember why we paid what we paid....

The original post was at 9:53am, so there was at least 6 hours until the 4pm deadline.

Oops, sorry, RavenRage92. Didn't see your post until after I typed mine.
Thanks for the more accurate info on when he signed.

Yeah, that's true, though. We still have our top two rookies to sign not to mention all the other contracts that are expiring. The worries never end and it seems like the season never starts :(

The money is gooood! I think he could have gotten more in free agency but that would have been a gamble on his part. We did not over pay.

here goes
says the compromise between the two got the deal done.
to be the highest paid guy it was a shock it wasn't as high as he was gunning for he just wanted a fair salary for basically cover 2 positions
second only to peyton manning in bonus money said it is flattering and makes jokes that he has never sacked peyton almost but not yet
didn't mind franchise tag because it kept him a raven...said he isn't greedy...he wanted a long term deal and he is glad the deal is done...talking while dropping kids off at school doing his daddy duties lol

Suggs puts the deal down to compromise - wanting to stay and the Ravens wanting to keep him.

Suggs is "shocked" to become the highest paid LB in the league - was not his aim, "wanted a fair deal".

Flattered at being 2nd to Peyton on the $33 million next 2 seasons.

Suggs didn't mind franchise tag because he could remain a Raven, "wants to play in purple and black" - tag kept him here, "happy to have the deal done."

He's dropping his kids off at school also. Lol

Wow talk about deja-vu. While I was sleeping I had a vision of tuning in to the radio and hearing "Terrel Suggs signs a 63M/6yr contract with the Ravens." I am just moonstruck how it's exactly the same that I saw in my dream lol. I'm freaked out, but at the same time, YAY! Talk about being relieved. I feel like a little kid again, going downstairs on Christmas (well I personally don't know the experience since I'm Jewish, but that's for you all to relate to how I feel).

Kazzaah! I don't care if people think we over-payed and if Ozzie got a little stressed out over Mason, cause WE have Suggs for alteast 6 years, so look out Broth-lisberger.
