Big money upfront? How about the second biggest signing bonus in NFL history. He finally got his monster deal and now can rest knowing he is the highest paid linebacker in the game, and well... the history of the game for that matter.

Way to go, Suggs! Looking forward to another great year out of you and your fellow Ravens!

Way to go, all you guys in the front office!

I was just about to post a thread on this. Great news!!! I'm stoked we've kept him. He better play exceptionally well, that is a huge deal. Welcome back T-Sizzle.

We get a bunch of positives out of this.

we lock up suggs for a long time, and this move clears up some cap space so that we can AT LEAST find a gap filler for mason.

I am happy to hear this. :) Now he'll have to show up for training camp lol.

You should certainly hope so for that money! He's a high enery player, hopefully he brings some real energy to camp and sets the tone for a big season ahead.

This is gonna be a pretty big story around the league due to the size of the contract. How long til the deadline? Sorry I'm in New Zealand and semi-oblivious to the time in Maryland right now.

I think maybe we will start to see some wheels start turning finally. I think the Suggs deal was #1 on the priority list, now they can focus on getting Oher and Kruger signed as well as the Mason situation(either getting him a new deal or signing a FA)

I agree, kudos to the management for locking Suggs down. I'm sure further positive moves will be made to secure Oher and Kruger.

I it's a good deal imo. Not really a hometown discount but not bank breaking either. I honestly think that if Suggs would have hit the open martket he would be gone.

Suggs has said numerous times that he wanted to be in Baltimore, and with Peppers not signing, he could have held out for the money. So i think he really showed that he wanted to be here, and 40 million in 2 years don't hurt either.

Having the money front loaded will allow the Ravens to do more on the back end. So Gaither and Ngata will be able to get deals done within the next 2-3 years.

Than god that he proved me wrong :P
But 40 million in the first two years is ALOT, but I think part of the reason is to have some cap space to resign ngata

Edit: according to pft
First year salary: about 15 million
Second year salary: about 25 million
Third year: about 3 million

Of course these figures do not exactly translate into cap figures but the third year is significantly lower than the first two, the yer whenngata is a free agent.

I'm actually surprised by this deal, it is much lower than I expected to be 6 yr 70 million or somewhere in the neighborhood to that

Best news I've heard all day. Now I get to keep my Suggs jersey in rotation. :)

And thankfully, a lot of the criticism directed towards him will die and a lot of his haters will shut their mouths. Sure, the contract is giving up A LOT upfront, but the total value (on-paper) of the contract is much less than what Dwight Freeney signed for -- even though both men probably won't receive all of what they signed for (just most of it...lol.) Remember, most contracts are never fulfilled to their very end, so expect at least one more contract negotiation towards the end of Suggs' career to ensure that he stays a Raven for the rest of his playing days.
