Matt Cassel Signs Multi-Year Deal

10 posts in this topic

From Nfl.com:

The Chiefs didn't disclose terms of the deal, but NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, citing a league source, reports that Cassel received a six-year contract worth over $60 million, with $28 million guaranteed. The deal is worth $40.5 million over the first three years, which puts Cassel in the upper echelon of NFL contracts.

Cassel is the first of the guys franchised to get a long term deal done. That's good for Cassel but did the Chiefs just overpay for him? I think they overpaid him big time, Thigpen did well for them last year, and they should have stayed with Thigpen. Hopefully this works for them otherwise this is like paying a 1st round pick a bunch of money than having him not pan out and your stuck paying him and his high cap each year. Did the Chiefs overpay, and should they have stuck with Tyler Thigpen? Opinions are welcomed.

Yes they should have stuck with Thigpen,he was great in his first year starign and could have developed even more but with Scott Pioli being from New England he knew what he would get with Cassel and that is a franchise Quaterback.

compared to the vick/manning/big ben and the latest stafford/ryan deals, i dont think they overpaid.. i think thigpen played well, but you cant discount how well cassell played.. he is their franchise QB now, and reason for the fans to have hope in KC for years to come.. it never hurts to have more than one QB you can count on, but I think at worst thigpen has decent value and KC could possibly get a 3rd round pick for thigpen, which is more than adequete for the QB who started the year 3rd string last year for them

given the system cassell had last year to the system he's in this year i think we will see that cassell isn't what everyone is making him out to be and his first task is the dreaded baltimore defense and a superpaid t-sizzle.

here lies matt cassell
sorry bout your damn luck!

Matt Cassel did NOTHING in big game situations. He had a STELLAR O-line with TOP-TIER receivers, none of which are present in KC. Do you not think other NFL QB's could have done the same as Cassel given the circumstances? I'm willing to bet Cassel will be the biggest bust of the year, any takers?

Stupidest deal of the offseason by a long way.
So, basically, this guy that took the greatest offense ever to slightly above average level deserves to be given a six year contract worth 60 million dollars?
I mean, atleast with the tag if he's not what he's cracked up to be then you can just let him loose. But now they've attached themselves to an unproven quarterback for 6 years. Genius.

They're the Chiefs? What did you expect? If they really wanted to win this year they would've kept Gonzalez.

Although, may I say, Dwayne Bowe is a BEAST. If he was out there, I would endorse him whole-heartedly for my Ravens.

The Chiefs sure, but I thought Scott Pioli was better than this.

And Dwayne Bowe is a beast. I remember when he was drafted he slipped way down the boards because he couldn't crack a 4.6 or something. Every year someone proves that 40 times don't mean a thing and yet it still has such influence on the draft.
