The Rise Of Joe Flacco

69 posts in this topic

Ravens were down 20-27 in the 4th quarter with under 14mins to play. Flacco hit Mason to tie it up. Then next possession Offense got a FG on the next possession. Then T-Sizzle secured the game with a INT TD in the backfield.

I think regaining the pluse of the team and delivering on a 3rd down and 12 pass, agianst the Steelers, on MNF in his first start on the road. Driving his offense down the field after the Steelers had gained momentum and sticking the ball in the endzone to tie the game up. That right there proved a lot to me. Even Mike Tomlin made a comment about knowing Flacco was gonna be a problem after that moment.

IMO the kid definately has what it takes to lead his team down the field in the 4th quater to win a game.

Also the skins game, two TD's in the fourth in five minutes.

at the end of the day all that matters is the L's and the W's and right now Flacco has more playoff wins then Palmer,Ryan, and Romo.

I dont know. I just remember the ravens scoring 24 unanswered. I will have to take a look at the box score.

I'm not certain but I *think* we were down 11 heading into the fourth.

All I remember is thinking when they went up 27-13, that if we pulled off a comeback then this team is for real.

I ask cause for the most part I remember the games I got to watch.... unfortunately due to where i live, those are few and far between..... the T.V. actually goes out of their way to not play a ravens game

EDIT: and that game wasn't one of those that I got too watch, I remember where I was for the game, but the only thing I got to watch for that game was the scoreboard

All the media talk and "awards" are just fluff. What matters is who's winning the most games, and taking their team the furthest.

The answer to both questions is Joe Flacco.

Awards are meaningless if you're a football fan, all that should matter is victories and championships.

I agree that awards and recognition from the press do not make a football team. Ravens are used to being the underdogs and not recognized by the press. Who cares what the critics say - Flacco was great in his rookie season IMO. Can't wait to see what he does with the offense in his second season. The sky is the limit for him, wth our existing OL and WR's. Joe himself said that we don;t need any new receivers, we will be fine with that players we have on our roster

Lol, you'd rather have him win fewer championships? Personally I'd rather have a quarterback that dominates from beginning to end, not a guy who still needs to learn how to play in all four quarters. *Cough* Worthlessberger *cough*

I hate the Steelers as much as anyone, but you kind of contradicted yourself. Big Ben has 2 championships, one you could argue he got carried through and was terrible in, but in the second one you can't deny he carried his team through when the defense came up short at the end.

I think it's pretty insane though when you look at the ESPN rankings and you see Matt Ryan in the top 10 ahead of quarterbacks that have won playoff games, and you don't see Joe Flacco in the top 20. That right there tells you all you need to know though: The media doesn't care as much about football as they do the glamour game.

I didn't contradict myself. The poster I was responding to said that they would rather have Flacco become more like Big Jen than like Brady. Who has more championships?

Lol, well those kinds of rankings often have Tony Romo and Carson Palmer or somebody like that in the top five, so I automatically disregard that stuff.

I dont like that sentiment. Flacco might not be flashy but he wasnt carried. His contribution may not show up on his stats but he did plenty. He did what was asked of him. It amazes me that after so many years of not having a QB that can get the little things right (i.e. throwing the ball away instead of taking a sack or forcing to someone thats not open, tucking the ball away before taking off running, remembering the plays, staying poised, so and so on) that we of all fans can now take it for granted and say that we would have still won without. Dont forget all the great defenses and special teams units that we've had over the last 5 or 6 years that either failed to get to the post season all togethere or failed to get past the first game because our QB couldnt get the little things right. If Flacco hadnt stepped up and did what was asked of him, our defense and ST would have gone nowhere just like before. Our playoff run was a total team effort. Flacco wouldnt have succeed without them just like they wouldnt have succeed without him.

Very well stated. I couldn;t agree with you more. I am expecting big things from Joe this season. Hopefully Cam will open the playbook a bit for Joe. I know that the Ravens are a Defensive team, and I respect that; however, Joe is the first QB for the Ravens that has shown any real potential

This is kind of funny NFL Network has been replaying a few of the Quarterback Challenges from the 90's. and Ive been watching all of these great quarterbacks pretty much get a running start and throw their shoulders out to get the ball to go 65-70yds then I saw this on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUVjmXq9vUk Flacco makes a 74yd throw look so easy lol and even says it that it would have gone 80yds if he had gotten a better spiral
