Should the Ravens dedicate game 1 to Steve McNair as they did with Sean Taylor when he passed away (except that wasnt game 1)...? or maybe they shouldnt dedicate any game at all? what do you all think?

I think either the league should dedicate a week of games to him, or just Tennesse. He was a Titan, even though we loved him for the year and a half he was here.

I think the Ravens will definately to something for McNair. Even if it's just a moment of silence, or a video tribute. The Ravens are a classy organization and Mac 9 was a classy guy. To me it doesn't matter that he was only here for 2 seasons, he was a part of the Ravens Family not matter how beif, and his memory will be honored.

I don't know if they will go as far as wearing #9 patches, but i definately see the Ravens doing something. I wouldn't be surprise to see the players make up some shirts and wear them under their Jerseys.

I think the Titans will definately do something big for the McNair family. Depending on how far the Family is trying to go, I think having his Son's as honorary captians or putting his Jersey in their Ring of Honor. Week 2 will be a tough one for the Titans Family.

I agree, I think Tennessee should, and will dedicate their first game for McNair. I respect him as much as everyone else but he was with the Titans longer than the Ravens, and it wouldn't be fair to their city if we dedicated a game to him before they were able to.

I wouldn't be opposed to dedicated the entire 1st weeks games in the NFL to him, but then you have to think of the other players who have lost their lives as well.

Dedicating a Game to McNair is not a contest, or is not being done for cool or sytle points. If the Ravens just so happen to dedicate our Week 1 home game to McNair before the Titans are able to dedicate thier week 2 home game, it wouldn't nor should it be viewed as a slapp in the face to the their city or fans.

I understand what u are saying, but it's not like the Ravens or Titans will be dedicating games to McNair for publicity or ticket sells. It's not like the first organization to honor him will be viewed as the best and anyone else would be copycats. Their is nothing that the Ravens could do to take away from the time McNair spent with that Titans/Oilers Franchise.

Everyone in Tennesse and Houston have their views and opinions of McNair and we in Baltimore have ours. Any dedication to McNair and his Family will be done so in honor of the MAN not the player. It's not like he's going into the HOF and the Ravens are honoring him for his 2 seasons here. No the Ravens would be honoring the Man that Steve was, they would be honoring their friend, they would be honoring a bother, not just as great player.

As i said before, i see what u are saying. But i just don't see how it would be unfair or disrespectful to the Titans fans or the city.

If there is any Titans fans around, please give me your opinion. I could be wrong, i just wouldn't see it as being unfair. I would see it as Honoring a Man, Friend, and teammate, no matter the city.

I agree with what your saying but how many players have affected the NFL like Steve McNair has? Not many. He was one of the first QB's to come out of a 1-AA school and tear up at the NFL level, he was one of first really successful African American QB's, and he was 1 of 3 QB's to pass for 30,000+ yds and rush for 3,500 yds. The other 2 players who accomplished that were Fran Tarkenton and Steve Young. Pretty good company, no?

Steve wasn't just some schlep who was shot during an altercation at a night club, he changed the NFL and his respective communities for the better.

I think any player that could play through as many injuries as him and still perform well, should be considered great. I don't like people saying he will go into the HoF right now, because, just like Michael Smith (my most trusted analyst) said, it is too biased because of what happened. Although, I do think that if he was in a more balanced offense, he would've been a lock. A shame that he couldn't have won a SB with us or Tenn.

No, they were one yard from tying one :P Lol, +1 rep anyway :D

Edit: Well, if you want to put a triple "technical statement" on me, they were one yard from scoring a touchdown, which could've ended up in either of the following:

1.) A made PAT Field Goal, resulting in a tie (causing overtime).

2.) A missed PAT Field Goal, resulting in a loss.

3.) A failed 2-Point PAT conversion, resulting in a loss.

4.) A successful 2-Point PAT conversion, resulting in a win.

Every Team will have the SM9 on their Helmets and it is a damn shame we aren't playing titans week 1 (or at all) this year cuz that would be a good time to dedicate a game for him. He was the greatest QB we have ever had and helped give us the best record we have ever had.

I agree with this because Flacco is still a rookie Qb even next year...McNair is by far the best QB we ever had...I mean proof is in the season 13-3 common now....

If the Ravens were to dedicate a game to McNair, it should at least be a game with a team the McNair led Ravens played, the Chiefs are not one of those teams. In 2006 the Ravens had the Titans on the schedule and I would think one of those games would be appropriate to dedicate to McNair, since he played for only those two teams, but we don't play them this year (at least until the playoffs). Maybe the preseason game against the Jets, since that is one of the few games he helped the Ravens win in 2007.

Steve didn't play in the 07 game against the Jets and I don't think it really matters what game we honor him in.

week 14 @ KC 2006, Steve McNair throws for 280 yards and a TD and posted his best QB Rating of the season with a 122.7

While Steve McNair will always be considered a Titan, his two years in Baltimore was very important to our franchise. I think that our 2006 team was the best OVERALL team in franchise history. I have many special memories of that season, including going to the Week 1 game in Tampa Bay. We Ravens fans had never seen a QB that cool, calm, and collected. We knew right there that Steve McNair resembled the type of QB we would need in the future. I just hope that his family will be okay in the future, and my thoughts go out to them. I would like to see us dedicate our home opener to him. We could do with or without patches, but at least a video tribute and a moment of silence.

Good catch, you beat me to the punch on that one. It was also the first time the Chiefs had lost at Arrowhead in December in about a decade I believe.

Whatever tribute or memorial they decide on sould be respectful of the family's feelings. Using that guideline, I don't think they can go wrong.

I selected "Yes". It doesn't have to be a game dedicated to him, first or otherwise, but I think they should, and will, do something to honor Steve. I'm also sure the Titans will do something in his honor. Steve gave his all to both teams.

I don't think they should dedicate a game to him, I think that's better left for Tenn. to do. I think the Ravens will honor him though.

we should because our longest pass in ravens history was against the cheifs by mcnair

That was probably one of Steve's best performances as a Raven.

At least his Jersey could be worn. Nothing over the top, leave that for the Titans.
[/quote]
I like this idea, like MLB did with Jackie Robinson's number a few months ago. Have Joe Flacco, or maybe Derrick Mason, wear #9 for one game or something.

It would be a classy move, but not sure if it's appropriate if some of the rumors are true. Not saying the guy deserved to die at all, but it's walking a fine line to honor him at a game considering what he was up to.

they COULD in theory....retire him in the Ravens HOF or whatever thing they have for former players. the Titans will probably retire his number.

I voted no...I think the Titans should for sure. I think a #9 somewhere on our jersey or helmet would be great though.
