Woo, Art Modell!
A great owner who will always be remembered for XXXV. We just need a new ring for our new owner.

Happy birthday, Mr Modell!

As has already been said, thanks for bringing the NFL back to Baltimore and thanks for finding a worthy successor to your throne!

They need to put Art in the HOF already, and not becaused he moved his team here. Guys like him, Pete Rozelle and Wellington Mara had a big hand in building the NFL after the originals like George Halas.

Man, Wikipedia has a link to some "Art Modell Death Watch" page which mocks everyone who respects Mr. Modell. Objectively, Robert Irsay was 100x as bad as Mr. Modell, who Cleveland gripes about now but didn't seem fit to help out with a stadium while building everything else they could. He was losing money like crazy, football is a business, Browns fans need to move past it already. It's like the "Ray Lewis is a MURDERER BLAH BLAH" idiots you still see all over the place. If we can get over the Colts (other than a million middle fingers on their way to the stadium in the '06 playoff game), they should get over Modell.

My hatred died with Irsay, Sr. His son is actually extremely cool.

Besides, the Browns got their team back in, what, 3 years? We had to wait 12 years to bring football back to a town with a helluva lot more football history than Cleveland. The Baltimore Colts' history vs. the Cleveland Browns' is a landslide in favor of the Colts.

Good post, Fred Sanford.

I can't say that I've totally gotten over the moving of the Colts, though. I still hate the name Irsay.

When watching shows on TV [like those top-10 lists on NFL network], they do say things like Johnny Unitas of the Baltimore Colts, so I'm over most of my anger about them taking the name and stats, but I still will sign a petition if one comes my way to have them listed as the BALTIMORE Colts in the Hall of Fame for the appropriate years.

I think Irsay and Modell are just about even when it comes to being vilified. They both took storied franchises away from deserving fan bases. They might never make the HoF as a result but at least they have the money and new stadiums I guess.

Also I think it's pretty silly to say that the Colts history is a landslide win over the Browns history. The Colts won 3 NFL championships and 1 Super Bowl. The Browns had 4 NFL championships and another 4 AAFC titles before that. Both teams have equally rich histories.

Happy Birthday Mr Modell! I wish Art would get inducted to the HOF as well, but I don't think he will while he's still alive as bad as that may sound.

If they can put Al Davis in the Hall of Fame and he moved a team, they can put Art Modell in. I hope those people who write that Deathwatch put my name in. I wear their scorn like a badge of honor!

I give more credit to GM Ozzie Newsome's player selections, than Art on this one.
