I remember during the regular season I sat on my couch from 11pm-12pm watching the game highlights and when the Ravens came up it literally was like this...

"Aaaaand the Baltimore Ravens and Titans... look at that pass by Terry to move the ball on 4th down, next Cardinals and..."

I literally yelled at my tv. It was like that EVERY single week until the end of the season when people realized we were playoff contenders. We'd get 30-45 seconds of airtime in an hour long show recapping games? Screw NFL Network and ESPN.

Usually, those all-access segments run 3-5 minutes in length. A tour of the facilities, a player walking around with the camera doing commentary, and some funny bits in-between, with maybe one straight-football interview bit at the end.

5 minutes in a 45-minute show (not including commercials) is decent. Don't complain.
Derrick Mason actually did an interview with Flacco for NFL Network, so that might be apart of it.
If that's the case, it should be a good preview of Mason's future career in broadcasting. (He's expressed interest in going into radio or television analysis after his playing days are done.)

What they'll say:

1. Flacco is going to have a sophomore slump
2. The defense is gonna struggle because we lost our second string SS
3. The Bengals are going to the playoffs instead of us
4. Derrick Mason is injury prone and will have a bad season
5. Record prediction: 8-8

I'll put money down that Brendon Ayanbedjo is in it! "a player walking around with the camera doing commentary." Thats what he always does, so someone owes me ravens tickets if hes doing it lol. I think they will talk about how good of a pick up Oher is and that we need Marshall to make the play offs. If we do get him, then of course they will bash us...such hypocrites.

**WARNING: MEDIA-RELATED RANT...sort of**

That was 7 minutes devoted to the Ravens, including the brief intro and the post-segment conversation. That's 7 minutes out of a 45-minute show (not including commercials.) NO ONE can complain.

In comparison (I'm estimating what I timed, but this is for argument's sake), the Houston Texans got roughly 5 minutes. Brett Favre got almost 10 minutes (I believe.) The news break got 3 minutes.

That's 25 minutes out of a 45-minute show accounted for, and there's still other things I didn't take into account yet (and still more of the show to go.)

**RANT CONTINUED**

It's extremely difficult to cram 32 teams into 45 minutes of actual airtime in an hour-long timeslot. If you take those 45 minutes and divide them by the 32 teams, you'd have to devote roughly 1 minute and 24 seconds to each team to cover them all evenly.

Consider that there's other playoff teams that have gotten virtually NO mentions on the show whatsoever, including the Philadelphia Eagles who advanced to the NFC Championship game. What about the NFC Champion Cardinals? The San Diego Chargers? The Colts?

Everyone thinks the media ALWAYS snubs the Ravens. Though this is true to an extent, there are plenty of other teams who win that get no love. It's a difficult balancing act, to give every team equal exposure while giving the better teams their due credit. The only reason teams like the Cowboys get all the attention is because of their market (or in the Steelers' case, their fan base.) Let's face it: Baltimore is not a big market; media entities must cater to the majority first because that's how they maximize their profit. That's just the way it is.

The MAIN reason why it feels like the Ravens get no love, is because we all (at heart) want EVERY minute of EVERY hour on EVERY sports show to be devoted to our favorite team. Every sports fan feels that way about their teams. We could care less about how other teams are doing, because we want it to be our favorite team 24/7. No one ever realizes this because we're all too busy whining about the lack of media exposure.

Oh, wait, whaddaya know. I'm speaking too soon -- the 7-minute segment on the Ravens isn't it for the show, as another 2-minute segment is coming up. 9 minutes out of a 45-minute show. That's 20% of the show about the Ravens alone. Stop complaining.

/rant.

Uhh, I would agree if it werent for the fact that they often focus on one team for an extended period of time. Today was no different. Its not like they are going to mention every team just because.

That was my point, though; they can't just mention every team. I hate how some fans always act like the Ravens are the only team that's overlooked. But let's face it: there's other teams (winning teams, no less) that have it far worse.

dude, it's not like this is the only NFL access show of the off season. what would be a better comparison would be if u watched all of them and compared air time for each of the playoff teams. But yeah, the Ravens did get a fair share of air time tonight for once :) I still believe Baltimore sports continually get snubbed though
what happened in the last 2 minutes? After our 7 minute segment I tuned off, missing the other 2 minutes. WOuld you mind recapping it lol?
It was a quick, light-hearted segment on the Ravens' main cook Manny Tejada and the different individual meals that he'll prepare for the players. Nothing football-related, all in good fun.

A lot of people don't understand that, given the nature of television or radio broadcasts, it's difficult to devote enough time in each slot to teams in a manner that's fair and consistent. The only guarantees are that the Super Bowl Champions will get a lot of air time, and the big-market teams or teams with huge fanbases will get a lot of air time. Everyone else is just there as filler. That's the way the media works.

If you wanted a glut of information on your favorite team, you turn to the internet, not broadcast media.

It's true. I felt like the NFC South got rather overlooked last year, when infact Carolina, Atlanta and Tampa Bay (until the last few weeks anyway) were in a tight race for the division title. Those teams weren't even really mentioned in half-time shows or anything til about Weeek 13, whilst the NFC East and North got attention all season. I know there's more tradition etc. in those divisions but it goes in accordance with what you're saying about uneven coverage.

Of course the Ravens are not the only overlooked team. Pretty much any team that isn't the Patriots, Colts, Steelers, or in NFC East gets ignored alot. However, I am a Ravens fan and I do not care as much about other teams.
