How Do We Rank In Our Own Division

100 posts in this topic

I think we are still in the top 2 and was hoping to be the leaser after being so close last year. I know everyone says we are a couple of pieces away from a Bowl win but i still wonder about Rices durability and the lack of a deep threat. Our defense will be ok as always but we could stand to have just a good defense if we had a good set of recievers. Why try not putting so much money into the defense and invest in a few offensive tools. Ozzie is seemingly a defensive minded guy but i wish he would think offense 2 straight years and see which gets you the better results. I know, some are thinking back to testeverde right, what a nightmare. Great offense at times right. Just to many turn overs. That we cannot survive. What are your thoughts on going offensive instead of defensive in the next couple of years while flacco is still young ?

Second. ;)

Seriously, I have all the confidence in the world with regards to the Steelers taking the AFCN. However, All 3 games last year were close.
Now, neither the Browns or the Bengals have shown squat as far as improvement.

The AFCN is Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

Do you mean in the draft? We've drafted an Offensive player in the 1st round for the past 3 years.

Personally, I love that the Ravens' strength is Defense. I love that it's damn near impossible to run on us. They wouldn't really be my Ravens unless they shut people down like they have the past 10 years. On Offense, I like what Ozzie is doing by bolstering our OL with young, strong talent; it makes the entire unit more efficient. A big-time WR isn't really necessary if we can be effective running the ball and have good pass protection to let plays develop (something we didn't have last year at times).

And, oh yeah, to answer your question: we're second in the division. We will be until we prove our worth on the field.

I know he steelers are the most complete team in our division. Solid passing game, a nice running game and the #1 rated defense. I think if we do manage to sign a decent deep threat we will fare a bit better this season against you guys. I am nervous everytime we play them.

Well, if it's any consolation, we don't typically take the Ravens lightly either. #1 Rivalry in the NFL!

I love this rivalry, even at work it is an intense deal. You are either Bleeding purple or you are a Steelers fanatic. In offense i mean really go for a deep threat. To compete with the Steelers we need to be able to score from anywhere on the field and we need speed and strength. After all Troy is back there just waiting to lay a hit on anyone. I just wanted a number one receiver badly this year. If we had one the steelers would have a hard time keeping guys up on the line all the time and smacking around our QB.

I think we'll tie in the division. Both the Steelers and the Ravens should sweep those wannabees and then they should split when they play each other.

Why don't you add a poll to this thread?

As of right now, we're #2 in the division. There's no arguing around that because: 1) the Steelers beat us three times last season, and 2) the Steelers are the Super Bowl Champions. They have what everyone else failed to attain last season. Therefore, no matter if we're the "better" team, the Steelers crossed the finish line in our own division, and we have to take a backseat to them until the season starts.

Technically, someone's gotta win the division, there are no ties. I believe in in-division W-L is the same it goes to common opponent record. I could be wrong, though.

Yeah, if there's a tie then it goes to the overall winner in the regular season. (I believe that if there is still a tie, the winner is the team who has won the most games within the conference.)
I felt like posting strictly in the division.

Yeah, you could go 0-6 in the division and still, by some abomination of nature, win the division title.

Don't underestimate the Browns, now. It wasn't too long ago that they whipped us twice, along with Cincy, plus our game in Cleveland was closer than the final score might indicate. Just saying, they aren't exactly a cakewalk.

I don't think our problem was not having a deep threat, I think it was a rookie QB only making one or two reads before letting the ball rip down field. Experience makes a QB better, and after last year, Joe Flacco is going to be able to make two to three reads before he lets loose of the football this year. The Ravens got to the AFC Championship game with the WR's on the roster still, just imagine if you will the depth that existed last year, but wasn't tapped, because of having a rookie QB. Everyone needs to be less worried about our WR's than they are, but I guess it is better than being worried about not having a decent QB.

Right now, I believe we are ranked No. 2 behind the Steelers - based on last season. Having said that, we are entering a new season and I think we can win the division this year. Flacco has a season "under his belt" and should be better. We retained our core D players (I know we will re-sign Suggs to the long term contract he deserves). Only downside is the lack of a deep threat receiver. Ozzie appears to be confident that we are OK in that Dept. so I guess we shall see.

There is no doubt that the Ravens and Steelers are the two best teams, not only in the AFC, but maybe in the whole NFL. No need for self-doubt Ravens. Y'all beat us up enough. Hat's off to a fine opponent. Look forward to another "Smashmouth" season. Cheers, from a Steeler fan.

Not just the division. The TWO best teams in the ENTIRE NFL are the Ravens and the Steelers. I am a Steeler fan and I love the rivalry. You guys make us tougher.

Based on what? Because the stats dont back that up. The last two seasons their running game has been subpar to say the least. Granted they've had some injury troubles but thats no excuse. They are definitly not the smash mouth pound the ball down your throats type of team that the Steelers are usually associated with on the offensive side of the ball.

i dont want anything shoved anywhere.....but im going to risk it anyway

we had our first and second string running backs hurt........say what you want about every team has injuries but that explains why we werent running the ball very well

its not like we cant run the ball....we just had our third stringer trying to do it

and by the way, he didnt do all that bad considering

our plan is still to be a run first team(hopefully)

No, I'm not saying that their run game is bad, but no team can blame injuries as an excuse against us. I was just saying it in general, not that you were saying it.

I don't know about you guys but I think the Bungals made all the right moves so far this offseason. On offense, Carson and Chad are always scary and last year they ranked 12th in total defense. With the addition of Rey Malauga, Tank Johnson, and Michael Johnson who knows they might be better.

Chastise me for saying this but... I wont be surprised to see the Bungals in close games with the Ravens and the Steelers...

I know its trendy to be on the bengals bandwagon right now, but I've honestly been saying that they're gonna be good since halfway through last season. There are just some teams that you dont want to have even a semi decent defense and Cincy is one of them. If their defense can start making turnovers and can stop people from running down their throats like we did to them last year then they have a good chance at being pretty good.

I think this division is going to be closer than anyone might think. I don't think anyone can deny that the steelers are #1 they are the champions for a reason. It seems like Cincy will be a bit tougher, I have every confidence that the Ravens are the better team though. A sweep of them this season might be less likely. Cleveland is at the bottom of the division, but let's not forget that we had to mount a serious comeback on them in the game @ cleveland, and it came down to the suggs int for a touchdown to seal the win. The good news is that the Ravens could also be a better team this season as well, with the exception of pittsburgh, I think we are just too pysical. However, I don't think Pittsburgh will sweep us again this year.

1.Steelers (12-4)
2.Ravens ( 11-5)
3.Bengals (8-8)
4. Browns (6-10)
