Mike Preston?

He's a sports writer for the Baltimore Sun, he reports a lot on the Ravens, if anyone still reads the newspaper. Anyways, I was wondering what do you guys think about his articles?

He's been much discussed on this forum - his mostly negative articles...

For example:

http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/index.ph...&hl=PRESTON

http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/index.ph...&hl=PRESTON

Not a lot of love for him here... justifiably, I'd say. He's generally quick to point out the flaws, and ignores the team's accomplishments... in my opinion, at least.

I don't like him; he's very immature as evident by his 8th grade writing level. Though journalism as a whole these day's is very poor, there's not one journalist/columnist/reporter that I can think of that does anything original or inspiring. Everyone has to put their spin on things which they think is original but it's really not. They're just another hack trying to create a buzz but the only things they manage to create for me are ZZZ's. I haven't read the Sun in years mainly because of Preston. I also hate this state and don't agree with anything that goes on here; the people here just think completely opposite of what I do. I often wonder if I move to another state would I enjoy reading a news paper again? Could I watch anything other then football and football reruns? I've lived here all my life (41 years) and I'm really fed up with this place; I have one more daughter to get through high school and off to college then I'm out of here. So for me Preston is a symbolic figure that represents everything I hate about this state.

He is sarcastic and at times negative...but I do like it as he never beats around the bush...you know his position.

Usually he is finding issues, faults or a reason why someone or something isn't working.

Seems to have a superiority complex....for playing football at Towson...by reading his column you would have

thought he played for LSU or BAMA.

Grades after games are very critical...took get an "A" takes an act of god.

Not a big Willis fan that is for darn sure.....actually, he would rent the moving van to get him outta town.

Stopped reading Preston years ago. Every now and then I might read his column to see if he has changed and he hasn't. He expressed his dislike of Brian Billick many times which I thought was not his place. I don't like ax grinders.

Peter Schmuck may not quite be "inspiring," but he always writes an entertaining article.

As for Maryland, yeah it's a nanny state but we got mountains for skiing, easy access to the eastern seaboard, blue crabs, close proximity to the ocean. Think of Kansas, where it's just flat land.

I like Preston. He is very critical of everything he talks about. Not all of his opinions i agree with, but that's how it should be. He is realistic in most senerios. I would rather read an article that tells me the truth over tells that every player is the greatest that puts on a ravens jersey.

Example: Marcus Smith
I heard he was improving but had no idea where he matched up competitively with everyone. Some articles made him sound like he would be an impact player for us. Mike Preston said straight up that he wouldn't really do anything this year, even though he was improving a lot. Yes it's negative, but I now a general picture of where Marcus Smith really stands.

You mean Mike preston is the Ravens Insider? I thought he was a beat writer for the Steelers. I just hope he again appears on CSN's Washington Post Live during Ravens training camp and says the Ravens are a horrible team and will be lucky to win more than 6 games, like he did last year.

He's not the only one that thought that. He's been right about stuff too. He was right about the whole Ray Lewis situation this off season and as a whole has a pretty good opinion. Sometimes he is a little too critical but i like to hear a bunch of opinions

I like his take on a lot of issues. He seems more realistic than optimistic and that isn't a bad thing if you ask me. And, like people have said, it's good to have another opinion on something, especially when most of us are prone to be stubborn.

he tries to fabricate locker room troubles, he bashes the Ravens each chance he gets, very little of what he has published is ever on point, he only looks at the negative aspect of stories, he isn't really respected much around Baltimore from what I have gathered. He's similar to a shockjock, but of the Baltimore sports world minus all of the fans.

I dont like Preston at all. I just think he nitpicks and is always trying to find something to **** about, even when the team is doing well. Negativity sells and I think he's allowed that view point to influence his writing so much that he's lost all crediability.

I like to hear what Preston has to say. I may not agree with some of the things he writes, but I like the fact that he goes at the subject from a Jock's point of view. I tend to dismiss most football journalist ( and some board posters ) because very few have actually played the game of football at any organized level and wouldn't know one end of a football from the another.

right on brother!

Preston is a bit negative..but he's to the point.tells it like it is and doesn't give the political bravado like Harbough and the Ravens coaches do.

So, it's nice to have a guy who is a fan...but doesn't quite drink the purple I just used the EMB's #1 Cliché

You can pretty much tell the people on this site that really get it.....and unfortunaltey, there are not many.

They let their loyalty stand in the way of better judgement.............think McGahee here.
