My Biggest Concerns This Season

63 posts in this topic

I hate and i mean HATE when we lose to the steelers. How did we improve our offense or defense to beable to atleast split with them this season ? The deep ball was the enemy last season and i know suggs was not suggs in the end with the hurt arm but i for one am glad we let CMac go and hope rolle can stay healthy.

If we can score on offense we can beat the Steelers. The only thing they have on us are stand-out WR's.

I think we needed to improve our pass rush. With Gregg coming back and us adding Kruger, I think it will be better then last year. We need to add depth at CB, Foxworth, Carr and Webb, should help that out.

On offense our major problem was still the offensive line as good as they were last year. They need to improve in pass protection. As long as they take that next step, I think our offense will continue to improve.

I think the changes we made will help us beat any team on our schedule. I am not worried about beating any one particular team. I think we need to focus on beating the team thats right in front of us. Right now, thats KC. Looking ahead is how you lose games that you should win.

Flacco will be better again, the running game should be just as good too. I'm a tad concerned with our defense - losing Scott, Leonard, and Rex Ryan - the impact of this remains to be seen.

ok i think ive posted this about 5 times in as many days, but here we go again hope this helps... Leonhard was our SECOND STRING SS, yes we lost him but guess what? we get Dwan Landry(our starter) back from IR. Leonhard had a nose for the ball yes, but Landry is on a whole different level as a safety. We also get Kelly Gregg back who is one of the finest NT's in the NFL. We lost Mcalister who hasn't played much of the last two seasons anyway..elite WR's were making him look like a fool with his injuries. So we picked up Foxworth and with Fabian Washington we will have probably the FASTEST pair of CB's in the NFL! let's not forget that we also got Samari Rolle back (depth again) kept Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs,Haloti Ngata,Trevor Pryce and REEEED. Bart Scotts role on the defense wasn't really to make plays he was primarily a run stuffer and on passing plays he just rushed the QB like a maniac. I think Tavaris Gooden should be able to fit in that role very well...and he's probably going to be better at dropping into coverage then bart. On to the DC issue, Mattison isn't changing the defense. It's going to be the same exact defense but with some of the old kinks ironed out. Teams were starting to figure us out and kill us will short asses so I'm sure they are going to have that covered and also I got VERY tired of giving up potential game winning drives (can we say steelers anyone?) late in the 4th quarter of games because Rex would call that prevent defense that only prevented us from winning several games. Mattison will be a good DC or else he wouldn't have been hired. HE has been in the system, he knows the defense, he's a players coach and the vet's respect him. He will do just fine. I know Rex was a very animated character and we all loved him but the defense is in good hands, actually i'll go out on a limb and say that the defense will be BETTER this year than it was last year.

I know he was second string, but he was a good ball hawk. I just like having depth at all positions. I obviously hope we're better than ever!

Leonard had 1INT and 6Pdef (1 sack) in 13 games started
Landry had 5INT and 6Pdef (3 sacks) in 14 games started in his rookie year

Landry is also great against the run... you know what? I'm MORE than happy to have Landry coming back this year.
What's great is we still have lots of depth at safety (as well as DB).

thats misleading stats there ^
In 2007 Landry did nothing agianst the pass
Dont get me wrong i know Landry is a better player but bringing up Landrys best year against Leonhards year last year is a bit misleading

Anyway my concern agaisnt burgh is there pass rush. We neutralised it with Oher and now we have Birk to recognise blitzes, lets face it, brown couldnt pick those up to save his life. We have a healthy McGahee back and a better thicker, more explosive ray rice, we also get a deep threat with Demetrius and add a TE weapon in LJ and lets face it we get heap back as a receiver instead of a blocker every play.

On defense i worried aboout the rush against them and we improved that aswell by getting back Dwan Edwards, Kelly Gregg upfront, adding a Paul Kruger and getting Barnes 100% healthy and a more experienced McClain. We also got quicker corners that can cover man to man.

We definitly improved but if is enough to beat them, i think so but well have to wait and see

i think he is. If we let him carry about 10 a game. Rice abou 10 a game and McClain about 5 well ahve a great running game

McCgahee looked better in the playoffs so he is getting better IMO

I heard that Rice was taking first team reps coz McGahee had a (hip?) injury of some description and Harbaugh seemed annoyed at him. But yeah, I hope he is healthy obviously.

He needs to take some reps with the team before the season starts. Getting back to normal is hard when you havent done it in so long. Otherwise we will see more of McGahee of last year.

Absolutely. He can be a devastating runner when healthy, here's hoping he is 100% by the start of camp.

Hopefully these things will get better this season .
1- Flacco get the ball out quicker ( maybe the TE will help with this)
2- Te need them heap has been blocking almost all of last season this has to stop
3- Need work on no huddle it kills us when the colts do it and anyone else ( we could do no huddle alittle bit more especially for steelers)
4- Wr getting open ( if you noticed the colts and patriots games ther are alot of short passes then the long one the pace is faster then we like so this need to improve)
5-stop loosing the game on the last drive no prevent defence either you win or loose but don't give it to them as we have may times before.
6- Penalities gotta watch that it's hurt us alot when the game was on the line( I'll never forget the game with the New England Patriots that we should have won)

How about Marshall Yanda getting healthy. He isnt supposed to be back until September. Which means he is going to be ready for the season and ACL and knee injuries take a long time to recover from because you lose time to get in shape and it takes awhile to get back where they used to be.. Chris Chester is good but Yanda was a big piece to our offense last year.
