A Huge Fan Of 33

21 posts in this topic

I am a huge leron fan. He ran the ball well last year and was hoping he would be our answer to losing jamal and be our smash mouth running back to punish the likes of the steel curtain once again. The coach and others who are more in the know on every bit of football and probably have forgotten more then i will ever know seem to think he is not a full time answer. What are your thoughts and why did they not decide on him after leading our offense last year ?

McGahee and Rice are pure running backs. McGahee has some power, good straightaway cutting ability, and is very knowledgeable. Ray Rice is more shifty and can catch the ball out of the backfield. Le'ron McClain is a natural fullback. I know he ran the ball at Alabama here and there, but he was brought here to be a fullback. He showed that he can be a good power back, and he WILL be used this year in certain situations. But I think this offense will succeed best with him at FB and McGahee and Rice at RB. They have a much better chance of breaking off bigger runs consistently than he does.

I'm so angry that the team didn't sign Lorenzo Neal again,if he and Le'Ron keep switching out of the FB role our running game would have been outstanding like in 08' added with a healthy and in shape McGahee and a 1-year pro Ray Rice.

forget McClain running behind Lo Neal, If willis did it he would probably break Ja Lew's record.

I dont think he's a full time starter and to be honest its better that way. I like rotating running backs. The more guys you have splitting carries, the fresher they will be in the playoffs and the longer their careers will be. I think we sort of learned that with Jamal. It always seemed that towards the end of the season, with the exception of his rookie year, he always slowed down. There are probably other factors that contributed to that but I have no doubt that being that bruiser on every down is a major reason why.

Whats even worse is that he actually wanted to come back and probably would have done so to a generously cap friendly deal. Ozzie really blew that one but no use crying over spilled milk.

well it wasn't easy to find but...

apparently this is from march of this year, so obviously it was after his successful season here and wanting to play here again. I would still think that lorenzo neal would have helped this team more than without him, we should have kept him :(

Thats alot of work. I was just going to refer him to the numerous pre draft press confrences of Ozzie iand the gang, where he stated that Lo Neal had called him several times and told him that he wanted to be back here.

They can all be found on br.com btw.

Here's part 1 of the presser that I believe he talks about Lo Neal in. You can find part two on your own.

http://www.baltimoreravens.com/media_libra...580282d77bab9ab

How the hell am I supposed to know how much he would have signed for? I said he probably would have not he definitly would have. Players who are worried about money, dont go out of their way to make themselves available like it appears Lo Neal did based on Ozzies statements.

Understand mclain only played cause of the injury to mcgahee. Mcgahee had one bad season, that doesnt mean crap.

No, its not an article. Its the actual press confrence. You could probably find a written transcript if you looked hard enough though. :P

I also wish we kept Lorenzo Neal - he's been a fantastic FB in the NFL for many years. Someone alluded to McClain at FB as being more conjusive to long runs by McGahee and Rice - with which I tend to agree. He can still be used for some smashmouth yards now and again :) He'll prob score 6 touchdowns and rush for 500 yards or so I would imagine.

Who really want to face a 280 rb coming up the middle at the end of a football game after chasing after McGahee and Rice? To me McClain should be used as short yard and 4th Qtr RB.

actualy boys and girls I think leron learned a lesson running behind Niel , I think it was what a full back should do from a rbs perspective, maybe he picked up something he didnt have from that experience , I am a firm believe harbs let cam do that for a reason we will see if it took

Hmm, good point. I hope so! These are thinks a relatively new football fan like myself doesn't think of :P

my pleasure I been following football since I was 15 barely interested until then

but the ravens all changed that

now I bleed purple and sweat black

but yeah I played many sports so when I played soccer as a sweeper I argued with the goalie once , the coach said you think his job is easy and he thinks yours is even easier so switch , trust me we both found new respect for the other

Good way of putting it. This is my 3rd season following, 2nd season of intense following. I'm good with the fundamentals but learning the more specific stuff is interesting :)

Its the McClain Train and i think we haven't seen the last of it. Don't forget he can still take handoffs from the FB position. And what about a split-back formation?

McClain will still get his carries. Doesnt matter what formation he is in (unless its singleback and shotgun when he isnt in). He is too good to not use. I pity defenses. They have to deal with ray rice who is speed and annoying to bring down. And McClain who will run you over.
