Okay, Really Boring Right Now, So Excuse Me For Asking This If It Is A Stupid Question.

I'm just wondering a lot of "what if"s. I forgot a load of them, but there is one that is stuck in my head. Let me just set the scene for you...... Actually, right now is probably a good setting for this. Ravens and Steelers, possibly the two best teams in football right now. Both are confident they can beat each other and win the division. If somehow they want to be very cocky, do you think that two teams in a similar situation would ever make a bet that they would have a better record the next year. They both are so confident that they each trade their own entire draft for the other's? I'm not saying we are going to do this with the Steelers, but do you think any team would do it?

If Bart Scott were still playing for us and Joey Porter for the steelers, hands down they would have bet on better records already. but as of now, i dont know b/c i dont see many people on either teams willing to talk like that.

(no monetary wager, of course, since that sort of thing would get shut down by the NFL, ASAP)

As for other teams, I'm not sure if they'd have a bet as to who would have the better record between teams; to be perfectly honest, teams are more worried about themselves than their rivals, so they'd be shooting for a better record no matter what. They don't need incentive or anything to keep them going.

And then the suggestion of teams betting all their draft picks is out of the question; no one is that stupid to gamble away their team's future. Plus, the league probably wouldn't allow it.

I wouldn't respect any player on any team if they weren't willing to make a "gentleman's" bet with another player on another team that the original players team would have a better record than the formers team, especially this far from the start of the season.

Remember Braylon Edwards was a friend of Michael Phelps, who was training at Michigan before the Olympics, and made the bet that he would score twice as many TD's as Phelps won Gold Medals. By the way Braylon didn't even score half as many TD's as Phelps won Gold Medals.

Uhhhh.... IIRC, wasn't he the one who took that cheap shot on Heap?

Yep. I was there, and I can't remember being more livid at a football game. Made my old man proud when he heard the words coming out of my mouth!

What happened?

As for trading picks; the Ravens would never do that. They wouldn't game their future on a pro-bowler and they wouldn't do it for a silly be either.

could you see how much bigger of a rivalry we would have if we pitt still had joey porter and we still had bart scott... instead of this idiotic Favre watch we'd probably be seeing porter or scott be talkin to one another via the media lol
What happened?
I can't find a video of the incident, but here's a (Ravens-biased) article of the incident. In a nutshell, Todd Heap suffered a high ankle sprain on a play near the end of the first half. As the Ravens went no-huddle to spike the ball to stop the clock, Heap got up to the line visibly limping and Joey Porter gave him a hard shove after the snap to add insult to (literal) injury. Porter's rationale was that he thought Heap was about to go on a passing route -- even though the Ravens signaled that they would spike the ball.

All game, Porter was engaged in a war of words with the Ravens (as he usually is), and that play was just one of a couple of incidents that season, including a pre-game fistfight with a Browns player that resulted in his ejection before the game even started.
Heap was in the lineup on one leg, I can not stand Porter.
I don't remember, but weren't they also in the standard goal line formation that's similar to the kneeldown formation? Either way, Porter's rationale was weak and it didn't surprise me that he kept finding trouble throughout his career, from the Levi Jones incident to the fines for running his mouth.

I feel for the man in that he has an autistic daughter and it takes A LOT of work to care for a special needs child, and I DO commend him for being a family man, but beyond that, it's hard for me to like him on the field -- even if he became a Raven.

It wasn't a goal line formation, but it pretty much was a loose line-of-scrimmage and both sides knew it was going to be a spike. I completely agree with every point you made- I do respect him as a man for caring for his special needs child and for doing a lot of charitable work. However, I know that if he had signed with us, which was a rumor when he became a FA, I know that his style of play would have fit right in with our defense and I would have been able to root for him. It just would have taken some getting used to :D .

Honestly Peezy isn't that good anymore, that sack total is VERY misleading; he get's taken out of games by inferior OT's (Mike Gandy and Joe Staley both shut him down) and I really doubt he could beat out JJ for the starting job. He's only good for 3 or 4 really good games and then 12 mediocre to bad ones.
