2009 Rookies

10 posts in this topic

I just wanted to strike up a convo about some rookies and what kind of impact they'll have on fantasy teams this year.. again this is all my personal opinion, so feel free to comment...

QBs:
Mark Sanchez NYJ - Clemmens will start the first half of the year, so I really dont think hes even worth drafting

Matt Stafford DET - will see more playing time than Sanchez most likely, but you cant really count on rookie QBs to make a strong fantasy impact.. yet another guy that i dont feel is worth drafting

Pat White MIA - he'll be the #3 QB on the depth chart, but could be a very interesting late pick if he heads Miami's wildcat offense because he could contribute from a fantasy standpoint in passing yards, rushing yards, and possibly even receptions and receiving yards, with TDs in all three categories

RBs:
Donald Brown IND - addai is the guy in indianapolis, but i like "hand-cuffing" my #1 running back.. i think IND will get back to their running game this year and addai could put up good numbers, so i might take him if he's available in maybe the third round.. keep in mind the colts drafted mike hart from michigan last year, though, so i dont think Brown will see much playing time barring injury

LeSean McCoy PHI - kind of interesting because of westbrook's surgery, but i think he'll be healthy and ready to go, and is an elite RB, so no one on that roster will take many carries from him, but again if i get westbrook in the first round, ill take mccoy late as an insurance policy

Knowshon Moreno DEN - he'll definately be my first rookie RB ill take, if any... sure, there has always been a runningback by committee approach in denver, but theres a new sheriff in town with the change in not only the head coach, but OC... plus, kyle orton is no jay cutler.. theyll have to run the ball and moreno could be their guy.. they have a few guys that could take carries away from moreno, but again, hes definately my #1 rookie RB

Beanie Wells ARI - yet another interesting rookie to watch.. tim hightower doesnt really impress me and wells could score a ton of TD in that offense.. edge james is gone and especially if they lost Boldin, they'll be running the ball in the redzone.. wells is another guy worth drafting right behind moreno

WRs:
Michael Crabtree SF - the 49ers QB position kind of scares me, but Crabtree is so good that i think he'll put up decent numbers even as a rookie.. Singeltary will emphasize the ground game, so i think Gore will have a hige year, but i expect at least 750 yards and 6-9 TD.. I wont hesitate to take him ahead of #2 WRs on most teams

Kenny Britt TEN - the titans are definately a run-first team, but kerry collins in an experienced QB that will find the open receiver.. Britts size and speed combo could have him end up being TENN's go to guy.. i'd be willing to draft him late

Percy Harvin MIN - i think he'll be the biggest fantasy producer in his class his rookie year.. hes a burner, so he'll catch a few long TD and reports around minnesota is that they could have some special wildcat-like package for harvin and peterson.. i dont see how any defense could stop it.. if your fantasy league counts special teams production, he is definately a guy you should look at

Darrius Heyward-Bay OAK - this guy is a gamble, but J. Russell's cannon could match up nicely with DHB.. i think he'll be way to inconsistent to rely on, but he could be worth the gamble very late in drafts

Jeremy Maclin PHI - mcnabb has a tendency to spead the wealth and philly seems to have 4 or 5 decent WRs, and maclin will just be another one of those guys IMO.. i think he'll do alright, but wont wow you with numbers his rookie year.. andy reid has a pass happy offense though, so he could put up similar numbers to desean jackson last year, so we'll see

Hakeem Nicks NYG - i expect pretty solid numbers from nicks this year.. with the loss of Plax, Nicks could be used in the redzone often, which would make him appealing to any fantasy owner

Brian Robiskie/Mohamed Massaquoi CLE - i dont think either one is worth a draft pick, because i dont really know who will see more playing time.. if one or the other was drafted i would be willing to take him, especially with the potential loss of donte stallworth, but as i said, who do you choose?.. i would tale robiskie over massaquoi because hes more "polished" and seems more NFL ready in his rookie year

I think Pat White will be #2 on the depth chart. I'd draft him late, but he won't fall because he's a 'sexy' pick.

i think chad henne is still their QB of the future, thus will be their #2, but either way pennington is the starter, so it doesnt really matter barring injury

Well it matters because if you bring in your #3 QB before the 4th quarter the other 2 QBs are automatically made inactive. So if they want to use White in the wild cat he'll be the number 2.

The only rookies that I would draft

Moreno
Wells
Nicks (not too high on him though)
Robiskie (He is a strong number 2)
Harvin (assuming he is healthy and staying out of trouble)

On the bubble
Britt (Kerry Collins at QB....nuff said)
D. Brown (Don't know how much of a workload he is going to get with J Addai)

Ones to avoid
Crabtree = He is going to get drafted simply because of his draft status, when he has to adjust to a prostyle O
White = The Whitecat will EPICLY fail this year because all the teams have a year full of tape (especially ours)
Heyward Bey = Jamarcus Russel at QB+ Bad hands+ mediocre route running = Don't draft him

i just read that addai had microscopic surgery, kinda like mcgahee.. this doesnt mean he wont be ready to play but it think it will be something like a 60% workload for addai, 30% for brown, and 10% for mike hart

I love Moreno. He is 3rd on the depth chart behind Lamont Jordan and Correll Buckholter who aren't very good in front of him. He will win the spot and will make an impact instantly.

I love Donald Brown and LeSean McCoy. I think that westbrook and Addai are going to be hurt and those two are going to make instant success. I'd pick them up. And worst comes to worst you trade them to the addai and westbrook owners for a wide reciever or running back

I dont like any wide recievers because i don't think they are worth drafting since it takes awhile for wide reiceivers to get used to the NFL.

I'd take LeSean McCoy. Westbrook hasn't ever played a full season. Will be interesting to see.
