My favorite horror movies are:
Suspiria
Evil Dead Triology
Dead Alive

Foreigners (with the exception of Sam Raimi) do horror way better.

My Bloody Valentine its the only horror movie I've ever manage to watch without leaving, except for the spoof ones.

I'll accept the original Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm St for posterity.

Freddy vs. Jason was more of an action-comedy than a horror movie (plus it blew)

The original Psycho and Omen are both excellent.
The Exorcist was scary, but now I laugh during a lot of the horrible scenes...still a great movie though.

To go with the theme of this post, the original Last House on the Left was great.
The remake? Not so much

Wes Cravens' early films aren't remade well because they take out the emphasis on normal people becoming the monsters themselves in the end and instead glorify graphic violence.

i didn't mean it was good, i just meant that it was sick (as in disturbing) as hell..... i still can't stand the sight of
when they rape the girl
Evil Dead II for me - although it's as much comedy as horror. I'm also a big fan of the original Romero zombie triology (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead).

Think I'm going to see Drag Me to Hell tomorrow night - directed by Sam Raimi of Evil Dead. Only PG-13 but supposed to be scary in places with the expected dose of slapstick.
