Being on the cover of a magazine doesn't prove whether one sport is "better" than another, only which is more popular and will sell more magazines.

Bandwagon status is earned when people cheer for the team only when they are doing well, and I'm sure real Ravens fans have stuck with them through every single game, win or lose. I live in SD and cheer for the Ravens, while my cheers are being drowned out but the limitless amount of bandwagon Chargers and Lakers fans, it's ridiculous and overwhelmingly annoying; one week they'll say Philip Rivers is the worst QB ever START VOLEK (??!?! really?!?!) and then the next week they will say fire norv!! But once they win they are right back to super bowl chants...at least ravens fans believe in our team (WACKO FOR FLACCO) and stick with em
My friends and I were talking about the Ravens at a bonfire this evening and I was arguing with them how "fair weather fans" don't belong in Baltimore sports (we were also debating the Orioles)).

How do you guys feel about the topic of new fans following the Ravens (or Orioles) after having a great year (more on the Ravens part than the Orioles).

My arguement was that I don't as much mind it but I hate how when we lose a game they trash that given team. My particular arguement in the debate was that I am a Capitals fan and a lot of my friends kind of jumped on the bandwagon when we were in the post season but were soon to diss the team when we didn't make the conference title.

Basically my friends were saying any fan support is welcome but I felt that it really takes something away from the fans, like you and I who really follow the team and have been there for the lows and the highs and everything in between.

My friend brought up a point how he started watching the Ravens in 2006 (before the season started) and what makes him different between the fans who jumped on board when we were in the playoffs. I basically told him that it was acceptable because the season hadn't started begun and he was being a fan of a new hope instead of a fan who just cares when we are winning games.

What is your guys/gals take on this?

I for one, like I mentioned, get really ticked when someone jumps on board who wasn't there for the lows and who don't know the personnel of the team like the rest of us. But does it really matter though if they are willing to buy tickets and merchandise?

You guys being the most die hard fans that I know (since you post about the dumbest crap ever :P ) should have some input on this.
Ok what is the point of this post exactly(talking about posting dumb stuff)....this is suppose to change some guys mind?

Well since there are 95 posts on the topic I would consider it something people would want to talk about.

Does it make me any more/less of a fan being one of the first in Baltimore to own a Flacco Jersey since I bought it the day before his first NFL Regular Season game...and asking the guy behind the counter if I could return it if he did bad? :P

You raise an interesting point there. I've been a long time Cavs fan (since 2001). We had 2 very poor seasons and then drafted LeBron. LeBron arrived, along with some LeBron fans. As the Cavs got better and better, on came the 'band wagon' fans - and I must admit it annoyed me greatly. I live in New Zealand, where people feel even less obliged by geographical location and often pick the best teams - you get a lot of Lakers/Celtics fans.

It's so bad now that I feel as though I have to state how long I've been a fan now, and often work out whether the other people I'm talking to actually are proper fans with some questions you'd expect a true fan to know.

Relating this to the NFL, the upcoming season will be my 3rd season as an NFL fan. To be honest, in the past I didn't understand the game or like it - I found it too slow compared with the game of Rugby - the national sport in New Zealand.

The first time I saw the Ravens was against the Patriots - the game the Pats won on the last minute touchdown pass. I fell in love with the defense of the team (I'm a big fan of defensive play in sports, hence why I love the Cavaliers; as they're a defensively-orientated team). My point is even though I joined recently, I'll be here through thick and thin - don't worry about that!!!

OK. I should have said that you can;t switch allegiance to another team if the Ravens have a losing season. I also root for any team that plays the Steelers or NE
