I know this, but I will get it wrong. Baltimore Municipal Stadium, but it had another name, before Memorial Stadium, also.

After looking it up:

Venable! I was thinking it started DEN____.

I like Pat White and Slaton too. So I mainly follow players in college and root for there respective teams then root for them to do well in the nfl or nba.

Hey didn't we have the skipjacks?
Skipjacks were minor team and I believe they became the Baltimore Bandits.

Basically my point is that there were a lot of fans that kind of jumped on the Capitals bandwagon and as soon as they lost game 7 (6-2) they were all saying how we suck so bad and how we need a new coach, new goalie, a defense, etc. And I'm like whoa, you dont know anything so stfu. That being said our 13-3 season behind McNair was great and a lot of fans came out but none of these fans were around in 2007 but magically came back when we were in the hunt for the playoffs.
The Orioles of the IL won nine league championships, first in 1908, followed by a lengthy run from 1919 to 1925, and then dramatically in 1944, after they had lost their home field Oriole Park in a disastrous mid-season fire. ~ Wikipedia
It's interesting that Oriole Park at Camden Yards is not the first ballpark for the Orioles named Oriole Park.
The huge post-season crowds at their temporary home, Municipal Stadium, caught the attention of the big league brass and helped open the door to the return of major league baseball to Baltimore. ~ Wikipedia
Kind of reminds me of what the Baltimore CFL [s]Colts[/s] Stallions did to bring the [s]Browns[/s] Ravens to Baltimore.

Every single stadium in the history of Baltimore Oriole baseball has been named Oriole Park besides Memorial Stadium, so it wouldn't have been a tough question if you had made it clear that we were talking about the old Orioles and not our current O's.

The Oriole Park in Oriole Park at Camden Yards alludes to this.

True.

But man when I went to that 2007 Colts Ravens I was so excited to see Troy Smith's first TD and Yamon Figurs' first KR TD. It showed so much promise and the future of the team and I was glad that I could say I was there for that. But then we drafted Flacco and got Chris Carr to do kicks.... :o

It is what it is. This topic always reminds me of when I played basketball in high school. Whenever we were doing well and winning, the other students at school were like, "Yeahhhhhh WE won, WE are awesome" and when we lost, they would all say, "Oh man THEY suck" My fellow classmates always seemed to conveniently leave "we" out if our team lost.

Those are the types of fans that will always jump from front runner to front runner. They always want to be able to say they root for the best teams. I agree that if you don't stick with the team in the bad times, you shouldn't claim to be a fan of that team. These frontrunner fans may be fans of the NFL, and I won't deny them that, but they should never claim to be a fan of any one team. My mom, who doesn't follow sports at all but hasn't missed a Super Bowl party yet, is more of a Ravens fan than these front runner fans. At least she feigns interest in the local teams, and likes to know if the O's and Ravens are doing well or bad. There are those people who like to bet on the NFL and I have seen those fans change alligence from week to week depending upon the point spread. Someone else mentioned those fans that follow players, I believe this stems from the popularity of fantasy football, and once again can say they are fans of the NFL, but should never claim to be a fan of anyone team just because they like a couple of players on that team.

I was in 11[sup]th[/sup] grade when the Colts left Baltimore, and I was really starting to follow them and the NFLin about 8[sup]th[/sup] grade. When the Colts left I dropped them as my favorite team, my brother was in college and a bunch of his friends had converted him into a Redskins fan, and since they were doing so well back then I also changed my allegience to them, so I could have been considered a frontrunner fan back then. I kept following them between 1984-1995 during the absence of the NFL in Baltimore. When the Ravens first came to Baltimore I decided it was time to have two favorite teams. Luckily, they are in different conferences and I now have a favorite AFC team and NFC team. There is only a conflict once every 4 years, because of how the schedule is made, or if I am really lucky when they match up in the Super Bowl, I will be luccky because no matter what happens my team will win the Super Bowl. I have been given crap by some of my friends for not choosing one, but one of them is a Bostonian who is a Cowboys fan, and another is a Baltimorian who is a Steelers fan.

I think what this all comes down to is, there are a lot of different fans of the NFL and you can't really get upset by any one subset of fan. If you really want to show one of these frontrunner fans up, just keep a really good memory of what they say at the begining of the year, maybe even get a witness to what is said, and when they change their allegience halfway through the season remind them of what they said a couple of weeks ago.

Some relatives in my family are fair weathered fans and it bugs me. They laugh when i actually get angry or upset at certain calls or if we lose by a couple of points to Pittsburgh or cleveland or Cincinati. My wife even laughs when i get upset when the game does not go in our favor. I dont claim to be a die hard fan but my gut tells me either i am hard core or just nuts to let a teams success or failures actual predict my mood. Does anyone actually hurt or get very pissed when we lose ?

How didn't I make it clear I said 3 more points for telling me the name of the staduim they first played.
And how many parks have the O's played at here in baltimore to my knowledge its been those 3 maybe 4 depending on where municiple stadium is? so that would make it at best 66% of our stadiums are called Oriole Park.

Municiple, or Venable, Stadium was where Memorial Stadium was. It was basically just the same ballpark before they made the improvements to it and renamed it Memorial Stadium.

True fans stick with their team through good times and bad times - and they don;t switch their allegiance from team to team, depending on the teams winning percentage. Fair weather fans support the team when they are winning and diss them when they lose.

Since Camden Yards holds about 42K fans that basically means that, the O's have about 15K true fans, the 27K fairweather ones will show up once they start winning again???

I'm not criticizing you, it's just that there have been three completely separate Baltimore Oriole franchises dating back to the 1880s, and all of them have played at an "Oriole Park."

If you were referring to the team we know today as the Orioles, then the first stadium was Memorial, but the other two franchises, and our current organization, played and play at Oriole Parks.

i dont think we should call fans that don't go to oriole games, "fair weather" fans. heck, i'm a big time orioles fan and love the organization and it's progress, and of course i'd love to go watch a game, but i'd have tremendously more amount of determination for watching a game if the orioles are winning and might go somewhere in the postseason. it makes the game that much more fun to watch and apparantly it works. yes, there are fair weather fans (as i've seen so many in the first half of the 2005 season when we had the winning surge) but many orioles fans bought tickets because they finally see their team in success mode. i think this is different from a fair weather fan.

I fully agree with you on the O's. After over a decade of losing baseball people start to kind of not want to buy season tickets when they can watch them lose on tv at home. Now, it will be pandemonium when the O's actually start doing good and people finally have a reason to cheer. I started following the O's in the early 90's around '92 or so when i was 7 yrs old, i'm glad that I actually got to see the O's have atleast TWO winning seasons since then! I also started following the Ravens since 1996. It's kinda funny because I have a few friends who are front runners or fair weather fans (they like whoever wins the superbowl) so one year they have Favre jerseys, next year it's Terrell Davis or Elway ect... then in 2000 i'm like you guys better get those Ray Lewis jerseys right now because were winning the superbowl, and they just looked at me with the most puzzled face. Later that year they were ravens fans. Fairweather fans really don't bother me, It's usually easy to pick them out of the crowd so i just don't talk to them

most fans are like that so it would be hard to sort the real from fake cuz everyone does it but for the loyal fans they want to win games but aint that mad when we lose but imo i rather have all die hard fans supporting our team but any support is good i guess.

I wouldn't go that far. A lot of O's fans are disgusted with the ownership and the way this team is run and after over a decade of false promises people are tired of the same old jargin. Those fans that go to the game are Hard core or regular fans that want to enjoy a ballgame just for the fun of being there. I'm not impressed with Angelos at all but this new GM seems like he has his act together so things could be lookin good 2-3 yrs from now.
