Stats are from NFL.com and in Bollers only season starting all 16 games measured by Flaccos first season starting 16 games. They don't look too different to me. I really think Baltimore fans were too tough on Boller. How could he progress as a QB when he is getting boo'ed by his hometown fans?
I do see a difference. One guy had a year to learn all the plays before he started and one was suddenly thrust into the spotlight in his rookie year. Also there's something missing:

Kyle Boller
2004: 9-7

Joe Flacco
2008: 11-5, 2-1 (post-season)

Personally, I have a soft spot for Boller, but high hopes for Flacco. Barring injury, Troy is a non-factor to me.

I was talking about Boller; Smith was never the starter.
I never heard Troy Smith get BOOED at a Ravens game. I have NEVER seen Troy Smith throw into triple coverage against an undefeated Patriots team when we are in field goal range and have the lead. I've never seen Troy Smith trip over his own two feet, with no pressure around him and proceed to fumble. (In case you haven't figured it out, I've seen Boller do ALL of these things.)
Now why did you have to bring up the triple coverage? With a score on that drive we win the game!

I'll end this convo right now. If Troy wasnt or isnt better than Boller then why from when troy was drafted to now that they keep trying to find ways to get him on the field? what other back up you know that get that much time time get in even though we got our franchise qb?

We line him up everywhere but QB really. No ones argueing that Troy Smith is not a gifted athlete. Just some think he sucks as a NFL.. NFL..NFL QB. Some believe he is good with no real evidence that he is.

I take Flacco in his rookie year, not supposed to play at all, while Boller was in his second year and supposed to play. And there is a difference pass %, yds/play, passerrating, fumbles lost.

And why did Boller struggle with that OL? McNair and the same OL did pretty good in 2006. I do believe our LT and LG was better than most and still they struggled together with Boller.

I give you this I think Boller did progress over the years, mentally I am not so sure. However a typical good Boller game.. one of his better games actually, vs Browns in 2006, McNair was injuried early and Boller and Ravens dominated the game, Boller had good stats from that game, however somehow it become ridiculos close, interception, three and out, fumble, our defense suddenly played awfull as well.. and then the good boller a long pass to DW and game over.

Five years with Boller, and not a single year with a decent prodution. He had more opportunities than most. Anyway as much as Ravens needed a change of scenario, Boller did too.

flacco is our man for the next decade
smith, former heisman winner was the frontrunner last season before the freak illness (he is in the last year of his contract)
beck should be a great back-up: (only signed a 1 year deal)
with our stud o-line, i don't expect flacco to take many hits inside the pocket

Boller 's Rookie year was 2003 10-6 He went down early and Chris Redman or Anthony Wright had take over for him and that was only year time we lost a wild card game to the Titans. But let's not talk about Boller since the Rams are his team now. Joe Flacco is our guy .
