Was Smith Really Our Best Option To Backup Flacco?
I will give Boller one thing! He had a very strong arm, he could throw a 60 yard bomb from his knee's! From his knee's? Right now you are asking yourself what kinda of QB can throw a 70 yard bomb from his Knee's? A QB that can throw a 75 yard bomb from his knee's, is on that spends a lot of time laying on the ground.!
russel threw 80 yards on his knees

A QB that has been ruled down because one or both of his knees are touching the ground? I always wondered why any QB would want to showcase they can throw the long ball after they would be ruled down in either the NFL or college.

I guess I'm just trying to find reasons because...did anyone really want more of Boller? I sure has heck didn't, not in our system. However, a new system was just implemented and he could have thrived (we'll never know).

Clearly Harbaugh and Cam weren't impressed by him, and then there's the fact that he got injured for a whole season while Smith just acquired an unlucky illness.

That knee thing is so incredible though, mad props to Boller for having an amazing cannon of an arm.

Smith is a good Quarterback . Joe Flacco is the Starter. Cameron likes John Beck so he has a chance of being the the second or third QB. We won the Super Bowl a little less than nine years ago since it took place in January of 2001; we had Tony Banks, Trent Dilfer, and Chris Redman. None of them were considered an Elite QB nor are they considered to be one now.

LOL LOL OH God I cant stop laughing..more poised LMAO the guy used to fumble snaps and throw at ghosts in the field. How can you say Troy is not poised he has had almost no chance to play with the starting uninjured 1st string.

I never heard Troy Smith get BOOED at a Ravens game. I have NEVER seen Troy Smith throw into triple coverage against an undefeated Patriots team when we are in field goal range and have the lead. I've never seen Troy Smith trip over his own two feet, with no pressure around him and proceed to fumble. (In case you haven't figured it out, I've seen Boller do ALL of these things.)

You know what I have seen Troy Smith do? Win a game with a completely uninspired team who was already eliminated from the playoffs. He also led the team to the goal line against a winless dolphins team, only to have Billick take the ball out of his hands and kick a field goal. You know who Billick never took the ball away from? BOLLER! That's right, he insisted on letting Boller throw games week after week. He took the ball out of Jamal's hands when we had him. He took the ball out of Troy's hands when he was in there. And last year, Troy got sick and Flacco rode the wave of the defense and run game. It took him far. So he'll get a free ticket to start this season. He better take advantage of the early schedule, because come November... it's going to be BRUTAL with games against Pittsburgh twice in the last 5 weeks.

Poor Joe Flacco. He doesn't even get respect from the fans of his own team. Maybe if he can have a winning season or win some playoff games...

God Boller was horrible. It angers me just thinking about it. He was the worst raven draft pick. At least Travis Taylor didnt do anything good or bad because he never got the ball since he was terrible. The difference between Taylor and Boller was the ball was always in Boller's hands and he knows how to be terrible.

Well espn was making a big deal that Flaccos arm doesnt get tired in practice. That sounds cool. I didnt really think it was as big of a deal as they were making it, but now i think about it, it will help his durability during the long season. Also, his big frame will help him absorb hits better. Knock on wood but it sounds like we have a guy who has a lot of miles in him.
Troy just doesnt seem to have "it". I think we should have thought about keeping Boller and cutting or trading Smith. Smiths only use is in the wildcat formation and you can even argue that Boller would have been better at that. Boller's faster, he's more athletic and he's more of a threat to throw the ball. I think the Ravens made a real mistake by keeping Troy over Boller and they will regret it. Boller had all the tools to be an elite QB in the NFL, why wouldnt you want that guy competing for a starting job?
*sarcasm* Yeah sure because Boller could totally pull this off...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga7zzUnNW0Q

nyways....HELL NO! Boller would mess up trick plays like that.

Thats more of an insult on the ravens quarterbacks than anything else. And saying that a player has the most of something in Ravens history isnt saying much considering they have only been around since 96. And just because he had the most attempts doesnt mean anything.

And by those stats he had a 56% completion percentage.

He also had the most interceptions in Ravens history with 44. With only 45 td's and a 71.9 career passer rating.

Pretty awful(no sarcasm). A rookie from deleware did a better job than Boller did

He got booed because he sucked. Its not like he had to be superman. Flacco didnt exactly do anything special but after his first 5 games he did a solid job and didnt blow games. Boller got his chance in fact he got 5 seasons. Its ridiculous that he didnt perform at all. Dont even compare flacco to Boller. He doesnt deserve that. I have no sympathy for Boller. He was a waste of a pick and waste of money and waste of 5 years when we should have tried to go after another qb.

It's all about level-headedness and mentality when it comes to success as a rookie. Joe Flacco was probably more cool and level-headed than Boller, imo and still is today. Just take a couple of things into account though:
Kyle boller had a 70.2 passer rating, whereas Joe Flacco had an 80+ passer rating.

Kyle boller had a 55% completion percentage, and Joe Flacco was 60%. (this may not sound like much, but that is a whole lot more different.)

Kyle boller had 5.5 yards per play, and Joe Flacco had 6.9 yards per play.

And, o ya, Flacco had nearly 3000 yards (woulda broke it if we let him play all of the jaguars game) whereas Boller had 2500.

in short, flacco was better (and will be) ;)
