Leonhard

Forgive me if there is another thread already. BUT I still cannot believe we let Jim Leonhard go! I cant get over it. Ive been watching recorded games over and over and he is making the plays or near the ball most of the time. What a dynamic player! He could not have been that expensive. I know we have Zbi and Haruki. I didnt see them as nearly productive. The new players, who knows?

Hes a one year wonder bruh.Nak be around the ball the same way. Leonard is nothing without us who knew him when he was on the bills? We had six safeties so he was not a priority.

Most importantly we still have Landry, who will start and is better than Leonard.

The thing that was so good about Jimmy though was his ability to play many other positions. He was a versatile player and we don't have many players like that right now. It was tough seeing him go, but he wasent a priority.

he was a product of the system
landry, zbi, and nakumura will pick up right where he left off
AND bring out an enforcer element that he lacked

Leonhard seemed to play with a lot of heart. I thought he made some great plays, but I think the guys we have can also make those plays and more. At least, I hope so!

I still can not get over the that I walked into Modell's last week and they had Leonard Jersey's for sale. I thought to myself and said "self wasn't he a free agent player that signed a 1 year deal to play for the Raven's?". He did play well but I doubt he will be missed.

hell i would have bought one, granted he was "a product of the system" he was still a damn good for it being part of the system haha, the thing that he did best was let ed reed take more chances, plus 36 is my favorite number.... and thats what he wears..... i hope he wasn't a product of the system, and i hope he becomes one of the most dynamic safeties in the game..... so what he isn't a raven, i can still wish him success right haha

Don't forget Dawan Landry. The only reason that Jim Leonhard was even playing at all last year was because Landry got injured early in the season. I am not saying that the Ravens shouldn't have tried harder to keep Leonhard on the team, but the guy deserves to be a starter in the NFL, if only based on his play last year. If he would have stayed with the Ravens I don't think he would have been #1 over Landry.

Also remember how D players always seem to look really good in the Ravens system. What is to say this isn't the reason Jim Leonhard looked so good last year?

Because they liked him.

Mostly, I think it's because a lot of people didn't expect him to fill in as well as he did, and, as I said, he showed a lot of heart and seemed genuinely enthusiastic about playing.

Do you even watch Ravens football? Come on, every player, especially on D, knows more than his own position. That is one thing I hope Mattison keeps up that Rex Ryan did. Ryan made sure that every player on D knew what each his team mates responsibilities were on each play. This way if a Ravens player was beaten by the guy they were lined up against, that player knew whether they had the versatility to stay with their original objective, or create havoc that the opponent wasn't expecting on that play.

Which i am sure is why Rex Ryan made sure he and Bart Scott moved with him.

Leonhard was a back-up for a reason. We have a starter who is better than he is, and since Landry is coming back, there was no need to try to get J. Leo again (and really, how are you going to say "Hey, Jim, I know you started like 14 games last year and played in three playoff games, but why don't you get back on the bench, 'kay?).

I cringe every time Leonhard was making a tackle......because he was a dragger, not a person who brings someone down with authority......which is Landry

I really dont mean to come off like a jerk but can I ask you is this your first season watching the Ravens? Because I feel a lot of people are missing out on Dawan Landry. His rookie year was pretty damn good, he had like 5 Ints and a crap ton of tackles. His sophmore season I think he was top 5 in tackles. Leonhard is good but he knows he would have been behind landry.

IMO, the loss of Jim Leonhard= the loss of Corey Ivy. Another backup/ special teams player.

One more comment.

How come I have seen Raven Leonhard jerseys in stores who only played part if a season with the Ravens, and Landry who had 2 solid seasons doesn't have one yet.

The starter's jersey isn't available. But the backups jersey is...

It pisses me off.

Maybe there was a demand? Like a cult following for Leonhard, people came in and kept asking for Leonhard jerseys and eventually the store caved in and ordered a few.

Leonhard in my opinion was a great player whe we needed last year. The remark about him only being good in our system is ridiculous. That would be true with almost any other player on our team correct ? I would have much rather have seen NAK go. When someone is around the ball as much as he was last year that is terrific instincts. You cannot teach that.
