The stores breaking street dates, minus the smaller mom-and-pop stores and 7-Eleven chains, did so knowing fully well that Activision wouldn't take legal action since the early sales can only help pre-release word-of-mouth buzz that'll reach gamers on the fence about a purchase. It wasn't a coincidence that Activision then gave "special permission" to certain stores across the country to break the street date.

That said, I pre-ordered my copy today off Amazon and am getting it tomorrow at noon. Paid only $40 after using the incentives I got from previous Amazon purchases, and shipping is free since I'm an Amazon Prime member. The one-time annual subscription fee has more than paid for itself by now with all that I've bought from Amazon. :)

I would've taken off class to play today, but I've already missed enough classes as-is (my professors actually count attendance...), so I'll have to wait. But, from what everyone's been telling me, it'll be worth the wait. :)

I just want to play it, I'm not too concerned about buying it yet. Like the past 2, I'll probably ask for this for Christmas, although, after I spent my whole life playing COD 4 online, I might have to pass.

I love the game, and I've only played for maybe an hour.

Regarding the much-publicized controversial part in the game where there's a disclaimer giving you the option to skip:
It's reasonably disturbing. I mean, as a gamer who has a bunch of violent video games, I'm desensitized to violence itself. But in the context of being forced to mow down innocent people in an airport and walking calmly as you do it, and seeing people die around you and getting shot as they're dying, was pretty disturbing to me. Granted, the character you control is forced to do this because he's undercover, but the sight of innocent people suddenly getting shot up by terrorists is a little too eerie for my tastes. Sure, it's all digital, but the way it's done is all too real and I can see how people were offended or shocked by its inclusion in the game. Infinity Ward justified it by saying there's nothing glorifying it (which is true) and it's meant to make you sick to your stomach and wonder how people can really do things like this.
If you're an armed forces veteran sensitive to innocent people getting hurt, I'd advise that you consider skipping it, or read my spoiler.

haven't quite made it that far.. but no doubt in regards to the shocking part... its good they put the disclaimer in there too... that would be horrible if they made ppl actually do it.. granted it is a video game, but how do you justify it

To their credit, though, it was done well. Leading up to the disclaimer, the briefing during the loading screen explains that you (your character) will have to give up a part of yourself to maintain your cover and be forced to do things that are inhuman. Your own conscience comes into play as these actions take place on-screen and it makes the entire scene all the more powerful. It goes by quick enough that you're not discouraged to continue playing the rest of the story, yet it gives you just enough motivation to hunt these guys down for what they did. In a way, from a story design standpoint, it masks some of the deficiencies in the story, as the plot is pretty thin if you think about it. In lieu of massive character development, it gives you motivation to play the hero and fix things.

Is this game like exactly like COD 4 because if it's just another COD game, I'm not buying, because they get old after while.

Controls and mechanics-wise, it's about the same. Story-wise, it moves at the same pace as (if not faster than) COD4; you'll usually start each mission, scratching your head as to what just happened in the last mission. But, the setpieces in each mission are well worth playing over-and-over again. They're that good.

Multiplayer is the same, but perks are much better and killstreaks are much harder to attain. You get more bonuses for subtle things you do during multiplayer matches (killing the guy that killed you, getting x-amount of headshots in a row, killing x-amount of people with a flyswatter stationary machine gun, etc.)

Spec Ops mode is a major upgrade over Arcade Mode in COD4 because it allows for cooperative multiplayer with a friend that is arguably on-par with Gears of War in terms of how well you have to work together to get through each mission. It doesn't take you through the whole story, but you use the same levels and the difficulty ratchets up gradually.

Weapon selection is slightly better, visuals are an upgrade, and voice-acting is strong.

Honestly, if you can't find replayability in multiplayer, then there's no point in buying it; the story mode is relatively short (only something like 20 missions) and can be finished in a day if you have a lot of time set aside. If you were a big fan of COD4, it's definitely worth a purchase; but if COD4 lost your interested after a month or two, then it's a rental.

I was addicted to COD 4 for like a whole year, and vowed after I stopped playing it that I will never again get so hooked to COD multiplayer or any multiplayer ever again, it was that bad.

personally I thought the campaign was awesome..... to put it short and sweet, there are some parts in the story that have you shock and awed... and almost forces you to continue on.... and if you forgot why you were playing this game..... another twist comes out of nowhere..... multiplayer is awesome..... honestly if you like the FPS ... this game is for you... if you like the war time/action movies... this game is for you

Campaign Mode, for as short as it is, is like playing the best action movie you will ever see. It gives you no room to breathe because every big setpiece is followed almost immediately by another one.

The multiplayer, though...it's like a drug. So, if you vowed never to get hooked to multiplayer ever again, don't get it. You'll lose sleep over it; I'm not even a big multiplayer guy, and I find myself wanting to play all the time.

my only issue is I can't get the sensitivity right... its always off by just a little bit for my taste.. granted I only tried like the 3 in the "middle" range

With only a dozen or so multiplayer matches under my belt thus far, I've noticed that my play style is a lot like our Ravens this season: I start off slow (getting killed maybe 5 or 6 times in a row with no kills to my credit), and then pick up the pace when it's too late (finishing ranked 3rd or 4th in kills on my team.)

It's like I get pissed off from dying so much, that I just turn into Rambo and pick off the other team like crazy. I've earned all these killstreak rewards for my team, yet, it's always too little, too late.

That, or I just plain hurt my team more than help it by dying so often. :(

sorry i have not been around been stuck into this game. I believe that this game is better than cod4. it improves on the places where 4 messed up. i was wondering what level everyone is so far. i have not got to far in the campiagn but i am playing on the hardest difficulty. online im already level 52 but my only complaint is that you can not go into chat while playing. i know it was to cut down on the cheating for search and destroy but i wouldnt understand why team death match would be affected. so far tho im loving the game. franchise if you had a xbox i could help you with your skills.

im not the best either other wise i would be alot higher like some of my other friends. what i have noticed is that once you get past level 19 things just seem to take forever. quickest way to level up is to level your guns up. although it may seem annoying it will work out for you in the end because depending on the map you will have a weapon to run with. my favorite weapon so far is still my m16 just love that gun. i will admit though scar makes a strong case as being one of my favorites as well.

my least favorite map right now is quarry i think its the worst map they made but i guess thats just because im not a sniper and i dont have the nerves to camp it out. i think the way the designed the killstreaks is great tho because you can really setup yourself to do damage if your team is in sync.

to be honest the campaign is fun but the special ops to me is better. my only complaint with hardcore is that your teammates can kill you and it counts as a death for you. it really messes up your kill/death ratio because if you have horrible team all they do is team kill. i love how you can steal peoples packages tho.

oh yea the 50's take forever so once you get here dont expect to much lol

Until my accuracy improves, my go-to weapons remain the heavy machine guns, period. Their heavy mags paired with the Sleight of Hand perk make me virtually unstoppable when I'm hot.

My biggest gripe is when I'm playing against a party that's heavily coordinated and they basically take one building as their base and the rest of my teammates don't take instruction well. When I'm playing on an uncoordinated team, all hell breaks loose and I'm stuck taking the most deaths (but also ranking up near the top in kills.) Snipers have pissed me off almost as much as guys who use grenade launchers exclusively. It's like, you can't kill me because I'm running around, so you feel the need to shoot at me with a grenade launcher. At least cook up a frag grenade, I'd rather get killed that way. Snipers, though, they just camp out and pick people off, then run away when you actually encounter them because they can't kill you up-close.

if i had a ps3 i would teach you some tips and tricks to getting around all of that. the best thing to do tho is scout the area before you run around crazy thats a problem that alot of people dont do they just race off from place to place. i cant help you with the snipers because they are going to be a problem no matter what.

i play with my sensitivity turned up on 9 so i spin faster although it takes about a month to master im sure it would help. the easiest way to do it is to start out slow and raise up a level each time you get use to the setting. i dont know about ps3 but alot of people on xbox use special head phones that can hear you running around im pretty sure they have them for ps3 as well and if that is the case then you need to crouch walk more to reduce the amount of noise that you make. if i think of any other tips i will tell you.

well with the snipers... thats generally their job description... limited movement, picking people off from a distance, avoiding close quarters combat... but the flip side is it takes some to alot of skill to be an awesome sniper...... your best bet to avoid sniper fire is stay by cover as much as possible..... and if they do get you watch the kill cam for details on where they may be

the headphoens you are referring too I think are called turtle beach... or turtle something... you can find them at gamestop or best buy among other places... and I got it at a level I'm comfortable with

some guy was yelling at me last night cause he was at a 24 kill streak..... 1 more for the nuke... and I killed him.... he than proceeded to call me names.... 100% of which I cannot say in here
