Anyone Still Upset At Picking Oher?

47 posts in this topic

You know, Oher Might not have been the sexy pick everyone wanted, BUT! By drafting Oher we have

1. our left and right tackles solidified for the next 10 years ( hopefully)
2. Heap will be catching balls again
3. It will be opening up the run game even more
4. Joe won't be flat on his back every play and become gun shy (like kyle boller)
5. He was an absolute steal at 23.

now after I look at all of those aspects, I think its a very sexy pick :D

I don't who's upset about the pick but they shouldn't be. Oher was a great pick for where he was chosen. As good as Jason Smith, Andre Smith and Eugene Monroe are, Oher could be better than all of them.
If that happened, Terry would get manhandled and thrown around like a ragged doll, then fall on the ground holding his leg with another injury, and joe flacco would suffer countless injuries like the ones that caused steve mcnair to retire, and ruined boller's career - who was also plagued by injuries, only completing 1 full season, and the last season he ended up on IR. Its not that Boller didn't have the talent, but Boller was a huge project player. He needed serious pass protection and good coaching, niether of which he had. And we would risk the same scenario with Flacco if we didn't draft Oher. Flaccos season last year is only as good as Boller's best season, Flacco still needs to develop, and Terry can't even block well at TE. This is ozzie learning from his mistakes.

People complain that ozzie didn't help the offense, but that is exactly what he did. We already have a first round pick WR and pro bowl WR. We dont need a superstar because we live by our D and running game, what is important is to keep our QB healthy and make sure he has time to actually look down the field to convert on 3rd downs.
Amen, brother. Couldn't agree with you more

And getting Oher is all thanks to a zombie looking man named Al Davis! We wanted Pettigrew so I am curious who we would have gotten since he went to Detroit. Im cool with all of our picks except Phillips. If we traded up and got Cornelius Griffin or Ramses Barden everybody would be shut up about Boldin lol.

hell he was there until we picked our TE (ingram) and watching him play at the gators (cause im a gators fan as well) you could probably turn him into a wideout if needed and he probably would perform

I don't know if you realize this, but this is 2 years in a row now that Ozzie and the new coaching staff built a smokescreen to get the player they wanted. A year ago we made it look like we wanted Matt Ryan and people even thought we were going to trade up. We ended up surprising everyone. It wasn't until the end of the draft that we all found out the Cam Cameron loved Joe Flacco in college and we spent a great deal of time scouting him and working him out, they were prepared to pick Flacco at #8 even if Matt Ryan was on the board, at least according to DeCosta.

Then this year, if you paid attention, the Ravens were taking a hard look at all the available Ts like the Steelers and Rams old Ts. Clearly their #1 concern was this position, while the rest of the world figured they were looking for a FA WR or trades for other WRs. They even worked out a ton of WR draft prospects and made it a consensus that the Ravens were focused on getting DHB. This forced guys like Al Davis to grab DHB without even considering to trade down. In reality, I think the Ravens were hoping one of these top 10 Ts like Andre Smith or Michael Oher would drop, which is exactly what ended up happening. The 49ers sat there confused at #10, the whole time they had prepared to take Oher but surprisingly there was Crabtree also sitting there.

I too was hoping we could get Ramses Barden, but the Giants stole him, there wasn't much we could do. The only 2 legit WRs in this years draft were Crabtree and Maclin. The other WRs would not help us immediately. Last year, our current WRs were still adjusting to Cam's new system, our rookie WR Marcus Smith did nothing, any rookie we drafted later this year would most likely do the same this year. Drafting more projects are really pointless because we have one too many projects as it is.

We are better off trying to get a WR next year that can be more of an immediate impact. Since i think we will be getting some compensatory picks next year, we can use some of our other picks to trade up in the draft to get someone who is 10X better than Craptree, yeah i'm talkin about my boy DEZ BRYANT.

We did want Matt Ryan and we did try to trade up and get Him on draft day. What did surprise everyone was that Flacco was there 2nd highest rated QB on the board. Most thought He was the 4th or 5th

We never tried to trade up to get Ryan. The reports that we had tried to move up to #2 with St. Louis, to jump in front ATL was a ploy by the Rams to pick up an extra draft pick from Falcons, while only moving back one spot. The Rams circulated that rumor and it had no merit. Right after last years draft Kevin Bryne talked about that in his blog.
I had just spent time with Ozzie, Eric and owner Steve Bisciotti – and thought I was all caught up with the possibilities – when I snuck down to the weight room to get some time on the stairmaster and lift my little weights. It was about 2 p.m. I had both ESPN and the NFL Network on monitors in front of the stair machine. Almost as soon as I started my climb, NFL Network reported that the Ravens were making a serious run at the Rams’ 2nd pick. A few minutes later, ESPN reported the same thing.

I started thinking: Am I out of the loop on my team? I just left my guys and there was no indication this was happening. The reality: St. Louis was leaking info that the Ravens wanted the 2nd pick to select Matt Ryan. Why? They wanted the Falcons to react and give them a draft choice to move one space to make sure they got Ryan. Ah, the games continue.

One thought: there is no doubt that we think highly of Ryan. We have not denied that. But, what people outside the circle don’t know is how highly we have other QBs rated in this draft.
