Jason Taylor signed with the Dolphins because he really had no other options, other than maybe New England. Miami was his pick only because it's closer to his home, and he obviously has history with the team and its fans. Taylor, at his age and with his recent injury history, can't and won't earn the big bucks anymore.

Terrell Suggs, on the other hand, has dozens of options (if/when he becomes a free agent) and can still command a big payday. So, no reason for Suggs to take less than his market value.

Blame the Suggs contract holdup on the other teams, giving in to agents' demands and giving players the big bucks -- especially the players who underperform compared to Suggs.

knowing Taylor is old (from a NFL standpoint), knowing he doesn't fit well in a 3-4 system, but knowing he was, and still could be one of the games greatest active D-Ends, would you have applauded the ravens if they signed him for the same contract the dolphins gave him? 1 year- 1.5 mil.. thats not much more than the veterans minimum...

thoughts?

I wouldn't have been upset if they had signed him, but it would have caused a jam at the OLB position and could also put a strain on things with Suggs, I'd rather us use that money to lock up some of our young guys.

If it was for the same price, then I might not be angry at the move -- but that doesn't mean I'd be happy with it, neither. Though depth is depth, there's no need for an aging defensive lineman like Taylor, whose passion for the game is questionable now that he's admitted to having ACTIVE interests outside of football. It's one thing to set yourself up for life after football, but it's another thing entirely to care less about offseason workouts and more about wining and dining with the stars.

Is it hypocritical of me to judge Taylor's passion? Maybe. But on the same token, I wouldn't want to see the team pay $1.5 million or $50 million to a guy who assumes he can be above the team by skipping offseason workouts so he can have fun -- fun that he could've been having BEFORE offseason programs started. Players DO have at least 3 months off to themselves in the offseason, even if they make it to the Super Bowl...

it just shocks me that the Pats couldnt get a deal done with him if he ended up signing for 1.5 mil
