I kind of, okay I absolutely expected them snub us, but come on: the Bengals?

• Baltimore -- The Ravens were the AFC's other big turnaround story last season -- going from 5-11 to 11-5 and a pair of playoff wins -- but there was nothing fluky about them. They smacked you in the mouth on defense, took care of the football on offense, and got better the longer they played, both in specific games and in the season. Rookie head coach John Harbaugh had Baltimore playing smart, disciplined football, and that had not been the case for the Ravens in 2007.

I have no great reasoning for listing Baltimore as a non-playoff qualifier in 2009, because I like almost every move the Ravens made this offseason. Getting cornerback Domonique Foxworth in free agency was an upgrade over Chris McAlister, and offensive linemen Matt Birk and Michael Oher were nice pickups as well. Baltimore will be in the playoff hunt, but my hunch is some of the breaks won't go its way this year, and returning to the ranks of the AFC elite will be just beyond its reach.

They really aren't, most of them read of sheets and can't really remember stats, like Rod Woodson did in the video.

Heck then why dont we make a network by the fans, for the fans, where we look at everything and actually have legit reasons why a team can make the playoffs or not. I like how the idot from sports illistrated said he didnt have a reason that the ravens would not make the playoffs...dumb!

How can you disagree with such solid reasoning?

Houston, Jacksonville, Buffalo, and San Francisco are the hot picks every single damn year, yet they never, ever, ever actually pan out; I'm fine with analysts excluding Baltimore and Tennessee from the playoffs, the fact remains that those two teams consistently appear in the postseason.

The Bengals is just the popular pick right now for people who refuse to believe the Steelers will repeat as AFC North Champions, mainly because of the strength of their draft.

The problem is, the Bengals appeared to draft better because they had more glaring holes, and filled them all -- compared to the Ravens and Steelers, who had few glaring holes, and didn't need to address any one position more than the other. Not only that, but the Bengals took a chance on a lot of players who had character issues. Even if they have success with this draft, they're mortgaging their future for the present.

I don't think people like the Bengals because they don't want to believe in Pittsburgh, Franchise. No one said anything negative about the Steelers so we can assume that everyone believes they will make it to the playoffs (probably by way of the divisional title). Like you said, their shiny new toys are probably the key factor.

Or maybe it's the talking heads way of saying "Out with the Ravens, in with the Bengals." I could be looking at this through purple shades though lol.

I never listen to projections and expert picks because they are nothing more than educated guesses. (Some more educated than others ;))
We can all make these assumptions but rarely are they right.

this doesn't mean they think the bengals are a better team than us. They told them to pick 6 teams that made the playoffs last year to not make the playoffs this year and vice versa, because history shows that there's a 50% turnover in the playoff field which they said in the beginning. That's why Dukes is so apologetic to falcons and panthers fans when he shows his picks

true but we've already established that everyone seems to conveniently forget about the ravens and talk more about high profile teams when it comes time for ratings in the slow part of the offseason

Okay so the Falcons I can see, the Bengals I get, the Saints I understand, but the Panthers?

Edit: Wow, my 800th post. I hated football a year ago; look how far I've come.

Nostalgic moment over.

Why do people get so upset with analysts over stuff like this. Networks can't have analysts say, "I think all teams are going to do great this year and every team will make the playoffs." It just can't happen. Do the analysts "hate" every other team that they didn't pick to make the playoffs or do they just hate the ravens. People complain about everything on this forum. All I see is people talking about how terrible our draft picks are and how stupid ozzie is for not getting a WR and how the media is against the Ravens.

dont mind it...

think about it, we overachieved last year, and then we lost our DC, and numerous players on D, and didn't address the WR in the draft. Of course consensis is going to be that we are weaker, but if you know like WE know, we will actually be stronger.

RAY RICE PRO BOWL 09 im calling it now
