Pryce
Eric Decosta and Greg Mattison both mentioned the fact that Kruger could bulk up and become the replacement for T.Pryce. They also said that in the meantime, he could play some OLB too. This is all being said before mini camps, so I think the staff will have a better idea of what to do with him once he goes through the offseason. I read an article that said this will be Kruger's first full offseason as a defensive player, so this guy can be molded into whatever. He has tremendous upside.
Not buying into the smoke being blown by DeCosta and Mattison. Dwan Edwards has long been groomed to be Pryce's replacement. I think Kruger is insurance against Suggs flying the coop during the no cap offseason following the 2009 schedule. From the few videos i've seen, Kruger is extremely high motor, but will have to hit the weight room if he's going to be effective in the NFL.

Is Dwan Edwards still alive? :D

Seriously, was he injured last year? He had zero stats, according to NFL.com...

http://www.nfl.com/players/dwanedwards/profile?id=EDW667014

He's started in 14 games in his 5 years with the Ravens, averages 14 tackles/season, and he's scheduled to make $1.4 million in '09. As a DE, he's had one sack in his career.

Kruger has to be better...

Pryce still has a few years in him. If we were mostly playing a 4-3 defense and Pryce only got 4.5 sacks last season then I can understand where you coming from but 3-4 DE's aren't really designed to get sacks, more so to take up blocks and stuff the run.

Go look at all the 3-4 DE's last season and post how many sacks they got and you will see that Pryce isn't as bad as you think. He is getting older but he's still effective.

Also, before Kruger can even think about taking over Pryce spot, he has to add alot more weight on his frame to survive as a 3-4 DE. I can see him playing the 3-4 OLB right now with his weight around 260, but to play DE he needs to be around atleast 290-300!

To say Pryce's sacks have fallen off because teams are holding him now... is silly.

Pryce had 4.5 sacks in 16 games. Suggs had 8.5. Why wouldn't OLinemen "hold" Suggs more than Pryce? Why did Demarcus Ware get 20 sacks, James Harrison get 16 sacks? If Olinemen could affect passrushers' stats by selectively holding, why wouldn't they hold Ware & Harrison, like they do Pryce?

He's not a "special" holding target, he's just getting older.
Truth post is truth.

Pryce and Kruger will more than likely rotate.. or he will be a 3-4 Rushing LB a la Antwan Barnes.
I was looking at Trevor Pryce's statistics since he has joined the ravens. His first season 2006 he put up great numbers, but the last 2 season have not been spectacular. Right now i think he is our biggest whole on the line. I am hoping Mcclain, or kruger can step up and be a great pass rushers for as give and us a duel threat on the ends.

What do you guys think?
OMG!!!

WTH!!

Are you serious? Have you watched a ravens game lately?!?!?!?
Its not all about the sacks, its about the disruption he creates, the penetration, the way he gets off the line, his bursts, his strenght to take on double teams.

I cant beleive some people on here actually agreed with this guy........wow!

Not trying to be Rude, but The game is more than just stats, you have to look at what he does for the team and how he makes it better.

And about that did you know he only played in 5 games, and started 2 in 2007? Yeah how did that turn out for us.
The truth is our Front seven suffered, and that's why we couldn't get any pressure, lets face it suggs needs someone to help take up double teams, so that he can get those one on ones, and make plays.

If you dont get the chance to watch games, you have a computer..........

I live in Arkansas, Thats bad to watch raven's games, get Direct TV. (You wont regret it)

Or if you dont want that just watch GAme highlights on NFL Network, or on the ravens website.

Pryce is still very good. Keep in mind he was injured in 2007 and missed a lot of games.
He is the only clear pass rushing DE, we have. He is getting double teamed, most of the time, because
opposing teams know, that's where the pressure and speed is. So, we used that as decoy as well, so we could blitz
the QBs from opposite side with outside linebacker, usually Suggs, sometimes with J. Johnson.
We have put some pressure on QB through the middle, by Ngata mostly. Our premier nose tackle
Kelly Gregg was injured and missed all season, Justin Bannan took his spot, and did very good job.
And the other DE Marquees Douglas was pretty good in stopping the run, but he is more of DT style,
even though he playes end. So, the only pass rusher is Pryce, and we need another one like him on
the other side. If Kruger could deliver speedy pass rush, it would open ways for Pryce as well.
Talk to the defensive ends about the lack of sacks. Don't get mad at Pryce and Ngata. They are supposed to control the middle so the QB can't just step up and have a straight run up the middle when the pressure comes from the ends. Problem is... it hasn't been coming from the ends very often. And that is because we only have 1 DE... and that is Suggs. Most teams just double him... and that takes care of that. We need to get someone on the other side! And having some corners NOT named Frank Walker might actually buy the pass rush a little bit of time to get there. C-Mac and Rolle hid our problems at defensive end for a long time. But now C-Mac is gone, and Rolle might not even be starting. Hopefully our pass rush is better... because with Roethlisberger... Manning... and Brady... they are going to have to get to the QB quickly!

And yeah, Pryce is vital. I think once the team was beyond help so early in 2007... it was hard for a veteran like him to make it through the rest of the season. If we start off well this year, it will really help guys like him and Ray out.
Thanks, you saved my lazy arse from having to type out a response.
Pryce's role is to do the dirty work. He and Ngata are in there to create opportunities for our LB'ers. Everyone should keep in mind that in a 3-4, the linemen will rarely, if ever, put up big numbers, but the four LB'ers behind them will. Just look at Pitts for example.
