Now What?

19 posts in this topic

Ok so now the draft is over what is next for us? Anything is quite possible, what would you guys like to see happen?

Trade talks:
Sheldon Brown (according to Ozzie and Company you can never have too many corners)
Tony Sheffler (good te can't remember if he is better at blocking or receiving)
Anquan Boldin (well known everyone wants this one but RIGHT PLAYER RIGHT PRICE)
Jarvis Moss (I know nothing about him)
Chad Johnson (don't start with the division debate)
Braylon Edwards (don't start with the division debate)

Free Agent Signings:
Plax (legal problems)
Harrison (old)
M. Floyd (RFA but hasnt signed yet has he)
LeRoy Hill ( Seahawks pulled the franchise tag)
C- Mac?

Undrafted Free Agents (Don't know who is out there)

Who should we cut to free up money?

Sheffler is a good receiver, couldn't block a 5 year old though. He's hurt a lot. Reminds me of Todd Heap from a few years ago.
Would love to have Boldin, we'll see if that happens. Moss for a 6th or 7th round pick would be nice as well. Chad Johnson is not going anywhere, Marvin Lewis said that numerous times. Edwards would be a good option but we would have to break the bank for that one.

Outside of undrafted free agents, the Ravens' roster + draft picks is pretty much what will be on the field in training camp...

What's next for me? Going back to focusing on classes in this final month stretch before summer starts.

What's next for the Ravens? Going back to the drawing board and evaluating the talent already on the roster before even thinking of making any big moves. There won't be any significant cuts until at least midway through training camp, and the bigger wave of cuts don't start until preseason leading up to the regular season.

So, expect a lot of stagnant activity in the NFL for the next month or so, outside of rookie contract signings and the occasional veteran salary cap casualty.

I don't see any major moves happening at all.

I don't know when he said it but when asked about the receiver situation, Ozzie seemed to indicate he didn't think the team needed another receiver. If everyone stays healthy, I think the current receiving corps can be dangerous. It all depends on health.

Getting a long term deal with Suggs should be priority 1. With the way franchise tags work, if he's under another one year deal, the cost of a third franchise tag would be the average of the top five players in the NFL (regardless of position). The Ravens would almost certainly have to let Suggs hit free agency.

I agree we need to keep Suggs
Do not let him go to free agency

You aren't the only one. I had 3 papers due this week and it was TOUGH to focus on them.

Can someone please post a link to this rule. I keep seeing people post it on here, but I have yet to actually see where the 3rd tag results in a salary of the average of the top 5 players in the league.

Rookie Mini camps and Team Mini camps and more OTA's are next. It's also undrafted free agent time and the wiz of OZ is one of the best at getting some. Then unfortunatly its nothing much until June/July training camp other that screwing around on here.

Sounds like they are in the process of trying to lock Jared Gaither up before he enters this last season of his rookie contract.

And I'm sure locking up Haloti Ngata is the next thing on their list.

I'm not sure they are pursuing an extension with Suggs as much as everyone else thinks... they offered him an extension, and I think it's basically up to him now. Things could change this season, like if he proves he can be a 10+ sack guy again. But they have a lot of other guys at that position that I'm sure they wouldn't mind trying out if Suggs wants more money. They just drafted Kruger, in addition to already having Barnes, Burgess, McClain.

So yeah, Gaither and Ngata extensions probably the next thing on their list.

I just saw Burgess at the bar this weekend and he is huge. I wouldn't mind him starting either. Also saw T-Good!

Eh he doesn't have one. He wasn't invited to the comebine, but sadly even worse news, the Detroit Lions signed him!!! :(
