Oher

I'm really looking forward now to checking out Oher in the pre-season games. From the highlihght clips, it seems like he really handles whoever comes his way. Of course, they are highlights.

I wonder if they'll put him in at RT even though he's used to LT. He's got Willie to learn from, which I think'll make us secure at RT (and O-line in general) for some time. Man, I've been waiting soooo long for the Ravens to have a killer O-line.

I actually think it will be open competition to play LT with the loser playing RT. Gaither has movement and maybe concentration issues and Oher has the physical tools may be a bit short for the role? I cant wait to see training camp unfold.

Most likely it will remain at the stat quo with Gaither at LT but who knows? its Matsko's call.

OT:What happens to Anderson? RG maybe? he might still be able to pull and still has great drive blocking power up front.

Well, we don't know what they're planning, as evidenced by yesterday. My take, though was that they'd be trying to get Oher to take over for Willie and leave Gaither at LT, since he's already had a year in the NFL there. However, Gaither, Anderson, and Oher all on the line at the same time would be pretty daunting. Joe would have hours and RBs plenty of holes to get through.

IMHO Oher is meant as a replacement for Anderson (barring injuries). Depending on how quick he gets up to speed or for cap reasons decides how soon.

I follow the SEC religiously, the kid is the real deal. He has been known throughout the SEC as one of the best O lineman (only behind Andre Smith) in the conference for quite awhile. I think we made an excellent pick and got a bookend tackle for the future. I know alot of the newer guys on the board aren't excited about the pick, mainly because it wasn't a WR, but he will be a excellent fit for us.

Ed Ogeron knows lineman like no other, and he recruited 3 for sure 1st round lineman when he was there. Peria jerry, Oher and Greg Hardy (who will be coming out next year).

I think the one that proves themselves to be the better pass blocker should play left tackle, or if that's a tie, the better run blocker should play right tackle.
I think it'll be Gaither at LT, Oher at RT.

Ole miss was a run heavy team for most of Ohers career there. He might need some work pass blocking as most of the analysts have suggested.

I agree. That was the basis of my decision to put him at right tackle.

Man! It looks like whoever he's on (and sometimes 1 or 2 other guys) doesn't even get in the neighborhood of the ball!

Not even that, what left tackle has a highlight reel? :D

Anderson is due 3 million this season, with Yanda coming off an injury, he could be outright released, although I do like Big Willie, this is a business.

Edit: Does anyone else think Yanda should play RG?

LT- Gaither
LG- Grubbs
C- Birk
RG- Yanda
RT- Oher

^^Looks pretty stout

I don't understand why anyone is questioning Gaither. At no point last year did I think he wasn't getting the job done. He played half the year with one arm and still shut down most pass rushers. Another year in this system, another offseason to prepare and another year with Coach Matsko will only make him a better LT. IMO, make it Gaither, Grubbs, Birk, Yanda, Oher. Make Willie backup RT/RG, Chester backup RG/C, Hale backup LG, and Cousins backup LT.

This guys got crazy awesome footwork. For a big big boy he is not slow either. I think flacco ought to be thanking his lucky starts that the Oz man was looking out for him. He could have an O'line like Ben does huh.

Willie is important to the unit not only as a great lineman but also as a mentor for the (young) guys on our o-line. I also think he likes playing in Balto. Understanding the realities of the cap, I hope they can find a way to keep him around for at least the next season.

Not only am I looking forward to watching Oher, it's going to be great when the line generates chemistry. McGahee, Rice and McClain are some lucky guys.

That's what I'm thinking. Heap might be seeing more action this season, too.

Truth is, we aren't going to know anything until Sunday September 13.
