You don't need a spleen and you can live a long healthy life with one kidney. I remember this conversation about another player last year.

So a missing spleen is OK for a contact sport? I guess it is only a problem when you actually rupture it

Its only a problem when you rupture anything. Internal bleeding is never good. But yea one kidney is really all you need as long as its healthy. His Liver probably compensates for the loss of the kidney. I love these guys we got, two class act tough men. Can't complain about their heart. And to me, heart beats talent anyday. Has Ocho Stinko or T.O. won a Superbowl yet? My point exactly.

Missing it is fine, it is a very vascular organ that helps break down old red blood cells so it makes it easy to bleed to death when it gets ruptured. The spleen is also a part of the immune system so not having it can make some one more easier to contract to some infections.

True, but the human body is an amazing thing. Other organs can compensate for the loss of another. Kind of like Gooden filling in for the loss of Bart Scott lol. Sorry to get all medical on you guys...my EMT class has me a little dillusional lol.

The bone marrow takes over the red blood cell functions but since this is a football MB I kept it to a sentence  These injuries also happened when he was 13, so he has had years to compensate.

Bone Marrow is actually the thing that makes new red blood cells. The speen removes the old ones like you said before. I am sure the Liver is capable of filtering out the old dieing ones.
