Some Underrated Players Who Fit Our System And Needs

14 posts in this topic

WR: Someone who can develop into future #1 or #2 WR, needs size, ability to stretch defenses and make clutch plays.

Brian Robiskie - would be incredible value as a projected 2nd rounder, not highly regarded because of his speed, but the guy gets separation. Big with great body control, catches anything, smart. Reminds me of a tall Reggie Wayne. Owned at the Senior Bowl.

Juaquin Iglesias - not a deep threat but very smart, has great hands, is VERY quick and gets good short and intermediate separation. Has red zone size. Could be a quality mid round pick up. Great starter potential and upside.

Not considered:
Mike Wallace - Pure track guy IMO
Brandon Tate - Quality player but injuries are a red flag

G: With Brown gone, Birk 32yo, Yanda coming off IR and Chris Chester still struggling with bullrushes we could use another inside lineman to push for a starting spot. We need someone who can handle a bullrush, trap and pull, good feet, an anchor, nasty demeanor and good power.

Cornelius Lewis - Projected in the mid rounds, Lewis is a mauler with great footwork much like Andre Smith, his stock isnt great because he dominated at a lower level of competition but offers a rare combination of quick feet and power at the point of attack. Low risk high reward type.

Not considered:
Herman Johnson - Huge guy with HORRIBLE footwork and balance.
Craig Urbik - Leverage issues with height

RT: A big drive blocker who wont be a liability and/or need help at pass blocking, to eventually start over or replace Willie Anderson.

Eben Britton - With Eagles out of the running for a late 1st LT Britton could see his stock drop down the 2nd as a RT prospect, where he would be perfect. A better than average pass blocker with great footwork, he displays very good drive blocking power and good leverage/technique. Plays like Titans RT David Stewart.

Jamon Meredith - Athletic pass blocker with great footwork and upside, the only problem is he is more a finesse zone type guy and can block really well on the move but wont knock anyone off the ball. Ultimately, he could really improve our pass protection on the right side.

Not considered:
William Beaty - Pass blocker who may lack desire and killer instinct. Easily bullrushed
Phil Loadholt - Im calling Ozzys bluff here, feining interest so someone else will tradeup above us for him, that or we're going to be a run first team. Horrible pass blocker.

ILB: To replace Bart Scott and play Mike and Will, needs to be physical, able to shed blocks, blitz well and have some cover ability. Must have good instincts.

Rey Maualuga - Big play ability, physical, plays fast, and can switch roles with Ray like Scott did to confuse offenses. Would be looked at to be the heir apparent to Ray's huge shoes. Ultimately, this is Baltimore. LBs thrive and Maualuga would keep that tradition alive.

Not considered:
Brian Cushing - Always injured, otherwise would be a perfect ILB
James Laurinitis - Never makes big plays, lacks physicality and strength (this can be fixed though)
Darry Beckwith - Bart Scott clone but cant shed, not an athlete
Jasper Brinkley - Perfect measurables, but nothing else. Injuries

OLB/DE: A legit pass rusher who can rush the edge with a variety of moves, hold up against the run and drop back into coverage when asked. Needs good quickness, instincts, playing speed and strength to handle blockers.

Clint Sintim - Its no secret Im big on Sintim, he is the only complete NFL ready rush backer in the draft and could be available in the mid 2nd. Played against elite competition and led with 11 sacks as an OLB. Hes strong in the upper and lower body, sheds well, can play is space, plays fast and quick on the edge and has multiple pass rush moves. He is also strong against the run.

Not considered:
Larry English - Great all round player but has durability issues
Clay Mathews - Isnt a natural pass rusher, only knows how to rush the edge. Workout warrior
Michael Johnson - Huge liability against the run

CB: A big, physical corner with potential to develop into a number 1. Should be smart, quick, agile, great man coverage skills and good open field tackling. A mid 4.5 time is ok (CMac, Darelle Revis, Brandon Flowers etc)

Mike Mickens - Does everything you want well, great base cover skills, very quick and blankets anyone, makes plays, aggressive, confident, good character. Provides great quality as a projected 2nd rounder. Like a taller version of Cortland Finnegan.

Sean Smith - Im not usually a fan of unpolished players but this is a special case. Sean Smith plays as quick as a 5'9" nickle but at 6ft 4inches, he is a project in terms of perfect technique but the tape doesnt lie, he runs with recievers, was a former WR so has ball skills, tracks the ball and out jumps recievers in the red zone. Smith is a playmaker with great measurables, is bigger and faster than Jenkins and has Asomugha like upside.

Not considered:
DJ Moore - Makes huge plays but too short, would get abused on jump balls and has no real upside
Jarius Byrd - Great player, 4.5 is fine but Byrd is just TOO slow. Needs to play cover 2.
Donald Washington - A big waste of ability, character risk and needs work on technique.

Thoughts?

i like the recievers. Lauranaitius doesnt make plays? Your bat SH!!!! crazy. the only reason hes not as high as he should be is because hes been so good for so long that people look for the bad. I like Clay Matthews the most in OLB/DE. I really like the CBs

I didnt say Laura doesnt make plays, he just doesnt make huge game changing plays. Hes very consistent but not much else.

This list looks really good. It is very well thought out and I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie and the FO has a number of these guys on the radar. I cannot wait for the draft. I LOVE it. I look forward to it all year long and it is almost here.

Brian Robiskie is one of my fav players in this draft, i'm hoping we draft him. But i heard today his stock is rising fast and some teams are considering using their late first round pick on him, so our chances at getting him with a late 2nd round pick are slim.

I really like Seam Smith too, he is my fav CB in this draft, his stock was rising a while back and he could be a late first round pick.
have you seen him play his whole carreer or just this last season?
For whatever reason his play dropped off last season, the guy dissappears in big games. If he declared last year he would have gone to the Pats.

Is he a homer pick for you or something? I used to think he was the next big thing but not anymore, thats just my opinion.

yes he's a homer pick because i live in Alabama... I just like players who are good from freshman to senior, and he was great. His played dropped off because his D-Linemen sucked. same happened with Ray and any other good LB. When Lauraunitis has a big body in front of him he is great

great, another person who agrees with me about Cornelius Lewis, this guy is Andre Smith without the character concerns and a bit weaker in the pass game, the gus is a beast and IMO would be our starting RG or possiblt RT, i love every thing about him and i am glad hes on your radar

another guy i like that you didnt mention is Antione Caldwel at center. We need another center and hes a 4th round pick, I think he will be great with us because of his run blocking. Antione was arguebly the best center last year on also aruebly the best offensive line. (well untill the bowl game anyways)

obviously i completely agree with you about robiskie, iglesias, and sintim (look at my mock in my sig) and i think kevin barnes should be added to your CB list, too.. you might think of him as a "homer pick," but i really think this guy has the size and tools to be a great corner one day.. he will be a second day pick coming off injury that has the potential, again, to be great

I like Barnes but Im not sold on his value higher than our 3rd (which could be going to Arizona) and he wont fall into the 4th. However, he would be a steal at 4th.

FS - Sherod Martin from Troy is getting a lot of interest as a CB from a few teams (including us) as a mid-late round project.

Sherod is 6'1" 198lb, has top speed, transitional speed, smooth footwork and is showing natural cover skills in workouts.
