That's a modest contract.

If the AP Defensive player of the year, superbowl INT record setter can settle for 9 million per year than we should have no problem giving Suggs a 6.5-7 million contract per year.

This means nothing for us,imo. DeMarcus Ware's deal is going to be the bench mark for Suggs. James Harrison is a good 4 or 5 years older then Suggs. He's likely at his peak right now. Suggs still has room and time to get better. And he will likely try to use that as leverage.

Exactly. Suggs is only 25 or 26. He will demand a huge deal. Why else do you think its taken 2 years and we still haven't been able to do it?

I thought OLB's got payed more than LB's. Bart got 6 years for 48mil. I hope we can get the same deal for suggs. I feel like the steelers ripped off Harrison.

this is good news for us with our on-going negotiations with suggs.
harrison rushes just as much if not more at end for ****sburg and won defensive mvp so hopefully we can sign suggs long term to a deal at least a couple million less than the expected which was rumored to be around his current cap number

It must be terrible having to settle for that kind of money! How can he feed his family?

It's good news for the Ravens but Suggs is not going to ask for Harrison type money. Harrison is already 31 years old i believe, he had only one good season in his career. He made the Pro Bowl only once. He's not gonna get any better, from now on (maybe after this season) he'll slowly start to fall apart.

Suggs is a different animal. He just turned 26, he's been to the Pro Bowl 3 times already, overall he's a better linebacker than Harrison. Suggs is going to ask for more money and he will and should get more money than Harrison is getting. He'll get less than Ware but my guess is the Ware contract will be the one he's looking at, not the Harrison one. I expect Suggs to get a 6 year deal for around 70-75 mil. Ware might get 80-85 mil.

There is a possibility Ozzy will trade him, you just cant throw 10million at every starting LB. He believes in the best talent at the lowest price. Id rather a deal was worked out now.

I read, forget where sorry, that if we tag him again he gets the average of the 5 highest players in ALL of the NFL, not just in LB's.

Is it the average of the highest in the entire NFL? I thought it was in that 'position'.

I see the Steelers are making sure Harrison won't hit the open market in 2010 in a uncapped year. Now, let's lock up Suggs and Ngata by the middle of the season. I say Suggs would demand alot of money but I think he would be willing to take less money to stay. I say a 6 year 40-50 Million dollar offer would be good, and 15-20 Million guarenteed.

It is in the position... But the rule is this:

"An "exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position as of a date in April of the current year in which the tag will apply, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. Exclusive franchise players cannot negotiate with other teams.
A "non-exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position in the previous year, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. A non-exclusive franchise player may negotiate with other NFL teams, but if he signs an offer sheet from another team, the original team has a right to match the terms of that offer, or if it does not match the offer and thus loses the player, is entitled to receive two first-round draft picks as compensation. "

Which means that Suggs will get, if Franchised again next year, 120 percent of his salary this year. This years franchise tag on Suggs cost: 10.2 milion meaning that next years tag, if it were to be put on Suggs, will cost 12.2 milion... However, it might not be possible to use the tag next year, as it is part of the collective bargaining agreement between the players and the teams (I'm not sure about the rules on this one)...

this contract actually sounds nice compared to what Suggs has been demanding for the past two years. his agent said he wants over 70 mil and to become the highest paid defensive player in the nfl. now with the retarded skins paying hayensworth 100 mil, 70 mil will hardly make suggs the highest paid, who knows if he demands more than 100 next year. I have a problem giving suggs even 50 mil because he is not worth it. He is not elite, or at least borderline. you have elite players like peppers and harisson getting 15 sacks, even demarcus ware got 20 sacks. I'm not saying 8 sacks is bad from suggs, but you can't pay the man that kind of money just to get 8 sacks in 16 games (i'm not saying thats all he does though). This would handicap our team from signing many other players as well. We also have to resign players like Gaither and Ngata soon and they will rightfully demand elite money as well. Suggs is not worth it, especially with ozzie eye for defensive talent in the draft. I dont care if its boldin or draft picks. Heck, I say we trade him for maybe 2 first round draft picks while he is still over hyped.

I think he will command alot more money. Not only because he's younger but he will get closer to top DE money than LB. He will get an avg over 10 million/year.

I just hope the deal gets done soon. No player in their right mind wants to be franchised every year. Sure it's a big guaranteed payday, but what if you get injured? There is something to be said for security and peace of mind.

It matters to the Ravens because its the salary that Sizzle is gonna be basing his negotiations on...

Suggs wants like Julius Peppers money and I just don't see that happening. He is great player but I mean look at DeMarcus ware. 20 sacks for an OLB! Suggs wants to much and he is not a DL, he is LB!
