Brandon Tate Wr Nc

23 posts in this topic

This guy was the #1 receiver for North Carolina before he got hurt and Hakeem Nicks took over that role. We all know how well he did. There are still questions about how well he's recovered so he will probably be a 2nd or 3rd round selection. Theres real potential for a draft day steal if we trade out of the 1st round to pile up more picks and are able to grab him. He'll probably need a year or so to develop but if he hadn't gotten hurt we'd be talking about him in round 1 and not Nicks.
I think he is more explosive than Nicks is

He could be a solid 5th rounder if healthy
I don't think he lasts that long. He was an explosive kick returner as well. He'll be gone no later than late 3rd or early 4th. Reports are that he is ahead of schedule on his recovery.

He has been brought up several times on here. He is supposedly running at 85% now. I like Tate a lot and think that he will be a solid WR in the NFL. This first year might be rough, but I think in his second year is when we will start hearing about him. He will be long gone by the 5th round.

I had never seem him mentioned. I think he's worth a look since now it seems more and more likely that the first tier of WR will all be gone in the first round. That is if we trade out of the first round. I don't see any of the guys we have a shot of getting at 26 falling into the second round (Nicks, Britt, Harvin, DHB)

He has been mentioned by me and a few others in a lot of other posts, but they were a while ago. He will be an excellent return man in the NFL while he develops as a WR.

Brandon Tate is good but when you talk about him you're talking about speed that stretches the field. When you talk about Nicks you're talking about excellent hands that excels in YAC.

I'm really big on Brandon Tate and because i'm being lazy i'm gonna use a post that i wrote in another thread.

I wouldn't mind Foster in the late rounds. Why not? Many people love Nicks, and Foster opened some eyes this offseason, however i think the better guy to come out of NC might just be Brandon Tate.

Brandon Tate is a very explosive WR, he is fast in and out of his cuts and is also a great return man. He is the same size as Nicks, but about 20 pounds lighter, however he is a bigger playmaker then Nicks. Many people didn't hear much about Hakeem Nicks until the end of the 08 season and Tate was the reason. Just looking at his stats won't tell u the whole stroy on this kid, neither will lookin at you tube but it will give u a good idea of what he can do.

Tate imo is one of those true slot WRs that gives u that returner like feel to the offense when he touches the ball. Comparing him to Wes Welker would be a big jump, but he would use his speed and quickness the same out of the slot. It wouldn't be fair for LBs or Safeties to try and match up with him, but if u can create that mismacth for him then he would take advantage everytime.

Tate has an very serious injury to over come and will probably be stashed on someone's PS, or IR in his first season. However after that he is a guy that could be a primary returner, before finding his way into the slot. He is not a finished product as a WR and is no where near as polished as Nicks. However his size and quickness will make him an very attractive option for someone in the 5th round or so.

He is a guy that never really got a chance to delevop as a WR, with the Tar Heels using him as the primary return man(think Devin Hester). He would have to work really hard to make an impact as a WR but he is more then capable. I would love for the Ravens to select this kid on day 2 of the draft and if they do it would probably push Figurs off the roster.(if Tate is 100% healthy).

Here is his youtube clip(and yes that is our very own Gooden who pulls the hammy trying to chase him)

Here's a great Kickoff Return

Yes he is coming along well from the injury by all accounts, but while he is showing good signs on the injury front, he wasn't able to work out for anyone pre-draft and that imo will hurt him.

Without the injury or given the chance to atleast run a 40 yard dash, Tate wouldn't make it out of the 2nd round imo. BUT because he could only do light running before the draft i don't think many people will bite before the 4th round, and ultimately think he will end up going late 4th or 5th.

Because of the timing of his injury it's like a gift and a curse for the kid. The gift is that because the injury happened mid season, he's had time to heal and recover, so he will probably be able to come into a camp at about 90% and show what he can do. The curse is that because because he was hurt at all the kid has lost a lot of money.

Look at a guy like Micheal Bush, he was a beast coming out of Louisville but because his injury limited his pre draft workouts he fell to the 4th round.

I think Tate will eventually go in the 5th but i wouldn't be made at all if he was taken by the Ravens in the 4th.

Oh he's that beastly kick returner. That's why he's got such great value, his ability to return kicks. And I think between Zibby, FIgurs, Nakumura, and Carr, we are covered at return man.

Well the thing about that is you can never have to many guys that can return kicks.

Going into his 3rd season Figurs is proving to be only a return guy, even though the Ravens are hoping he can produce as a WR. With a guy like Tate he would add value at return and WR. Figurs is a pretty good return guy, when he is not injuried or playing scared. However he doesn't have the size or srength of a guy like Tate

At 6'0 200 pounds i feel Tate would be big enough to withstand the wear and tear of the NFL, something that the 5'11 180 pound Figurs seems to be struggling with. Tate is a guy that has good body control and takes hits well, right now as a draft prospect he is a better WR then Figurs with 2 year under his belt in the NFL.

As for Zibby and Nakumura those guys aren't really return men imo. They are guys that are capable of handling those duties but are not primary type return men that could strike fear in an opponent on ST.

Chris Carr is a guy that has proven he can handle primary Returner duties but we will still need someone else back there. Like i said before u can't have too many return guys as long as they can contribute in other areas.

As i said before if Tate was brought in by the Ravens, i think he would push a guy like Figurs off the roster. The reasons being is because they both play the same position and have the same ability as returners, so the question would be who could help you more? I think from a offensive stand point that Brandon Tate is a better player then Yamon Figurs.

ALL FOR HIM, in person this guy is electric to watch. Really resembles Reggie Bush when returning kicks and has higher top end speed and is 2 or 3 inches taller. Would absolutely love this pick, will leave Figurs in the dust....

Tate was actually outshining before his injury. I think he would be a good pick in the second or third if the team doesn't get Robiskie. Here's a perfect example of his strength and speed on a kick return:

ive been saying this for a while if we can bring in tate in the late rds he would pan out te be one of those gems found kinda like colston hes got more experience more polished and a way better route runner than nicks but his speed and his maryjane problem will make a lot of teams hesitate on him but the oz wont if hes there late 3rd early 4th and his hands is incredible and butch davis was quoted that tate would have a better pro career then nicks so this is a guy to look for when this thing is over cuz he might just be that sleeper pick

Oh. He's still a quality. Although, I do wonder how some of these college players fail drug tests when they know they will be tested.

Yeah. Anyone that stupid doesn't have a place on our football team. As the person who started this thread I say we officially forget about this loser.
