Ravens To Look At Corner?

10 posts in this topic

Ok everyone has been talking about the Ravens going for a WR in the first round and I am just thinking what if the Ravens go for a corner instead..... From what I hear Vontae Davis could drop out of the 1st

round because of some off the field issues. I know, I know everyone wants a WR but with CB Rolle getting older (and injured a lot <_< ) should we take the BEST player on the board IF we dont see a WR

that is one of the high talent guys we are looking at. He is 6'0 - 204lbs

At Illinois he recorded 206 tackles, 3 FF, and 7 INTS...after 3 years. Also Vontae Davis returns punts/kick offs which is a plus after losing Leonard.

These are his combine stats:
40yrd dash: 4.49
Bench press: 25
Three cone drill: 6.75
20-yrd shuttle: 4.07

Also to all of those people who are sold on getting a WR, there is NOT a lot of WR's that I think that the Ravens can get that will 1.Improve our WR situation 2.Make an impact THIS YEAR!, the Ravens ARE a

team that COULD make a run to the Super Bowl and a WR is a hard position to draft and also a hard position to make a large impact on your first year.

I hope the Ravens are not sold on getting a WR no matter what and they keep their options open.

Ozzie always goes BPA, and I would also love for us to get Vontae Davis...

I agree that there aren't many WRs in the draft that could help us THIS year greatly. DHB or Britt may surprise, Nicks may be well rounded enough... but really the only sure lock is Crabtree. Im not even that high on Maclin to be honest.

i dont even think its set in stone that crabtree will have a good year as a rook.. sure, he's the best WR in the draft but that doesnt mean it will translate into success in his first year.. i think the Rolle signing really helped our secondary a lot, so i can see us going LB/DE in the first round, but at the same time, we have to take a WR at some point because we will have this same dicussion next year saying that a WR wont make an impact in his first year. That doesnt mean we dont need one for the future, especially beause Mason is playing the last few years of his career, so i think its important we draft someone who can fill his shoes in a year or two. I know a lot of people aren't very high on DHB but i think outside of Crabtree and Maclin, DHB could make the biggest impact in his rookie year just because of his size and speeeeeeed. If you look in my mock draft in my sig, i think it would be great to take Clint Sintim in the first or early 2nd if we can trade back, and then follow up with 2 of the most polished WRs in this years draft IMO with Robiskie and Iglesias. About the corner situation, i think we're pretty solid now with the signings of foxworth, carr, and now Rolle, but a later round pick like Kevin Barnes from MD wold be a perfect fit

If Vontae falls, I think the Ravens will get him but by re-signing Samari Rolle, I think they have said they want a receiver in the first.

Davis supposedly has top 10 physical tools but if his attitude and inconsistency have caused him to drop into the latter half of the 1st round, you have to wonder if he's worth the risk.

I would say no to corner back in the first round because we are stacked for now. On the defensive side we need an ILB. Thus said i really don't think Vontae Davis will be a good player in the nfl, he has all the tools but the drive to be number 1. He should have been a top 10 pick with all his ability, perfect size corner 5'11" 200 pounds but what can you do huh?

I agree. A disciplinarian like Harbaugh could set Davis straight though. Plus, with so many veterans around him, Davis might commit himself more.

You say we are stacked but in the AFC championship game all our guys went out and was the reason they drove down the field... I dont think we are stacked

Derrick Martin was hurt all year, Rolle didn't play and Ivy got annihilated by one of the biggest hits of the night. That left Washington(already banged up), Walker and Oglesby. Since then, the Ravens have added Foxworth and Carr. Plus, there is a good chance, they will draft another corner within the 1st 4 rounds. They are stacked.

I highly doubt we draft a corner in the 1st round. I have heard a couple of different people say that Malcom Jenkins may be the only corner drafted in the 1st this year. I dont know if thats true, but I am pretty sure we aren't drafting corner after we resigned Rolle.
