go down to Baltimores pick and it says that we could be a surprise forward mover on draft day this year, this is Steve Wyche so he has the inside scoop on what might happedn, what are your thought on this, im iffy, it depends on how much we give up, if he was there at say 16 or something and we gave up Adam terry our first and third id love it but i wouldnt want to give up our 2nd for him, although i would love to get him and just crush people on that right side for us.

He would easily be the best player for our offense and the only guy we should trade up for if he does drop. His stock looks on the rise and when the scouts start breaking it all down ultimately Smith does things that Monroe and Jason Smith cant do. Oher is similar to Andre Smith but a little less consistent, but I would be happy with Oher if Andre Smith goes early.

I don't really like it. You can get good right tackles in later rounds, and I don't really want to move Gaither out of his comfort zone to accomodate Smith. Plus with all the character issues, we might be sending out the wrong message.

Andre Smith would end up playing on the right, giving us one of the best pass blocking bookend tandems in the league. No more max protect with Heap and Terry staying home to block at TE.

But would he even play on the right? Seems a little big for his boots, you know what I mean?

Yes Smith would be the franchise RT the Ravens need.

LT Gaither
LG Grubbs
C Birk
RG Yanda
RT Smith

IS

By far the best young OL in the NFL

For playing on a line with a right handed QB, playing RT is much easier than LT

Smith might drop past the 20s because of all the drama and his poor workout and all, in that case - we definately should trade up to get him. But i think it depends on when we decide we should trade up to get him, if we decide to trade up earlier, it might cost us a lot. We don't have too many picks this year as it is. And i don't think trading Terry will help us in moving up, the guy is a joke. If big Willie can play RT, Smith can play RT. Gaither is one of the best LTs in the league statistically last year.

I think the Ravens are interested if this guy really drops to 26 maybe. I'm not sure we have the ability to trade up this year. But its rare that we really like any OT. We have needed a T badly for like the last 5+ years because JO was getting old and we had no legit RT. But we have always settled for later round losers who cant play T like Terry and Yanda. And we lucked out on Gaither in the sup. draft. We just keep trying to patch up the right temporarily, but it would be nice if we could get that dominating RT and not have to worry about T at all again until Flacco retires.

Yeah but he might not want to because LT is a more respected position. That's the point I was making.

who cares what he wants.... thats not a good reason, if we tell him to play RT he is going to. I'm sure most players might want to even get drafted by the SB champs or start for the pats but you don't always get what you want, thats the draft. if he is drafted, it doesn't even mean he will start let alone be RT because he is a rookie and willie is still under contract and playing at a high level.

i don't see us trading up to get anyone this year. if anything we may trade down and acquire more picks. if it involves just swapping our first round and Terry, Ozzie may consider it but i doubt that highly, we need depth at OL, i just don't see us doing that.

I hope this isn't true. Smith could lock down the RT position for years but there are a number of really talented receivers and corners out there.

I defenitly do not want to trade up for flabby Mcflabberson. We could get a quality tackle in the second (like Phil Loadholt) and have the oppurtunity to draft Maualuga or Heyward-Bey in the first

That is bad, when your primary job is to pass protect. The guy has concrete feet.

No, not necessarily. Willie played better at RT last year than i've seen anyone play RT on the Ravens. That may not be a big deal because our RTs have been pretty horrible since Orlando Brown, and Brown wasn't that good either. Did we start Gaither immediately? No, not even at RT.

I know Gaither did great in his first year at LT but was he good enough to say he is locked into the position? Remember that did have to max protect and it wasn't all for the right side. If, which I'm not in favor of, they trade up to get Smith I wouldn't mind a training camp competition to see who is the better of the two and moving the loser over to right tackle.

I hope they don't trade up cause we need the picks to get depth at WR and the front seven.

True true but I'm pretty sure the whole plan was for gaither to replace jo not play rt.. No matter I think it would be open competition and Andre would have the job into the year

I much rather have Andre Smith at RT than Adam Terry. I don't know why, but I have never been a fan of Terry at RT. If we can get Andre Smith to play RT that would be awesome.

statistically Gaither ranked as the 3rd best T in the NFL last year. He is the largest player in the NFL. He learned watching JO, i think its safe to say he has LT locked up.

Ozzie wants more picks this year not less by trading up. It won't happen. If anything he's looking to trade down and get an extra pick or two.

I second that. And i wouldn't be surprised if some of our players got shopped around for some picks either. With the biggest name probably being Heap.
I certainly hope we aren't trading up. There's still potentially a lot of talent at our current spot.

Guys I respectfully disagree. I think Oz will trade up in the first round. This year especially, since this whole draft is a bonus. Might as well go for a slam dunk. Smith from Alabama will be a nice treat for Oz, getting a Crimson player in. Oz' fantastic offseason allows him the luxury.

Here's my family, Me, my brothers and sisters, mom and dad, and Oz.

Who are the top three stars on the Ravens? 1. Oz, 2. Ray Ray 3. Joey Flack

but Gaither wasn't a first round pick in the draft. in fact...gaither wasn't even in the regular draft...he was a supplemental draft pick, which cost us a 5th rounder. would you start any other 5th rounder right away? maybe. but i think the comparison you're trying to use isn't "apples and apples"

I think it would cost way too much to get Andre as i believe that he still goes top 15, with 13 to WAS being his floor. I would love him as a RT, but it would just cost too much IMO.
