Flacco...he lead us to the AFC Championship. I think the only reason Ryan got so much attention is because he went to the Falcons and with all that drama with Vick, he was followed closely. IMO, if the roles were switched and we got Ryan and the Falcons got Flacco, I bet Flacco would have gotten the same hype Ryan got. No repsect for Baltimore.

Steelers three times! no question.

I think if he had a more passing oriented offense, Joe would have gotten so much more hype than Ryan did.

But you know, the thing to me is that if a QB can walk onto a team who had one of the worst offences the year before, had a 5-11 record, a new head coach and offensive cordinator and lead the 25? ranked offence to the AFC championship game that should deserve more hype then when a QB can walk onto a team with an established offenceive attack. But I guess thats why I don't work in sports.

I guess this is a good question! I really did not know anything about Flacco until the Senior Bowl where I saw him win the distance contest in the wind. I wondered if he was on the Raven's radar and I guess he was on the radar.
To answer the question I could name a bunch of player I would rather have and right now I would rather have Joe Flacco.

Probably, but one can always hope.

Would you rather the Ravens draft a playmaking WR or have Tavaras Gooden really turn out to be the next Ray Lewis?

Hmm...thats a tough one. I think the WR would be better this season because Gooden has a few more years to turn into the next Ray Ray.

I would rather have T.Gooden turn out to be the next Ray Ray. weve always been a defensive team, why change now? and besides mason and clayton arent THAT bad; its not like we have a glaring hole at the WR position.

Same thing happened with me.. I saw him throw that 76 yard bomb and fell in love with him.. after that i got up and looked him up on here aswell as other sites..

I would much rather Flacco.. His passing was restricted and he still helped lead us to the AFC championship game..

Matt Ryan. But I am glad we have Flacco. I wouldn't exactly say he led us to the Championship game either, that was our defense and the 3 headed monster

I will take Flacco because he is a no-nonsense type of guy who's not scared of the big stage. I mean Ryan did play well, but he didn't play the Steelers D three times, or the Titans twice. Rather he kind of choked against the Cardinals, who although played well in the playoffs, were not nearly as defensively tough as the teams I just mentioned. Nope, I'll take Flacco anyday. Plus he's a Pisan!!!!

This is one of them hindsight questions, of course we would say Flacco now because we unearthed a gem that really wasn't expected, at least not so soon in his career anyway!

But before the draft most would of said Ryan because he was seen as the franchise QB who could start in his rookie year, and if we had drafted Ryan instead of Flacco and still had a good year the answer would be Ryan!

Answers to these types of questions are usually the same after the fact :)

Hmm...I could see both sides to this argument but at this point, I would have to say Ray. He is the leader of the Defense but Flacco is our franchise QB and he is only going into his second year. There are plenty of guys who could do an average job at ILB, but there are not many QB's out there who could do what Flacco did his rookie year.

Colts and Pats.

Steelers we have beat. Colts have had our number for way too long. I dont know how glorious beating the Pats would be any more...

right now I would say lewis.
We have a very solid D. Lewis is a huge and significant part, no question, but he is just a part. With out Joe I dont know what our O would look like. I am not saying Troy couldnt handel it I am saying I dont KNOW if he could.

If you are talking here and now it would have to be Ray Lewis. Ray is at the end Joe is at the beginning!

Well Kyle Boller never exactly rode the coattails of the defense and running game very effectively. Even when Jamal was a good rb

That's not a tough question imo. We're going to lose Ray in a few years regardless, but we'll have what looks to be our franchise qb for many years to come.

Would you rather Joe Flacco get injured and have to start Troy Smith for the first half of the season or Ed Reed and have to start his backup (Nakumura?)?

Matt Ryan for sure. Come on guys i know joe is our QB and all but there is a reason Matt Ryan went 3rd overall he has much better talent and he showed it in his stats. Completions, touchdowns...you name it.

For the original question, I'd say Joe. I feel Matt got some of
the headlines partly because of being in the NFC, which seems to be the media's
favorite conference.

but he had a more pass oriented offense

Matt ryan had 265/434 completions/attempts which was 61.1% comp. percentage
he had 16 TDs to 11 Int and 17 sacks
3% of his attempted passes were TDs
6% of his completed passes were TDs
2.5% of his attempted passes were Intercepted
4% of the times he attempted to pass he was sacked

Joe Flacco had 257/428 completions/attempts which was 60% completion percentage
he had 14 TDs 12 INT and 32 sacks
3% of his attempted passes were TDs
5% of his completed passes were TDs
2.8% of his attempted passes were INT
7% of attempted passes lead to sacks

these #'s are not exact, mainly rounded for the percentages, but to give you an idea, and when your looking at these #'s they have a pro bowl caliber WR while we have mason, they are more of an offensive team while we are defensive, and this was all w/o looking at their running game

Well once upon a time people thought there was a reason Ryan Leaf went second overall...

Completions? If we hadn't had to play the Titans, Steelers, even Giants all year long (you know, good teams) and we got to play the Lions, Chiefs, and Saints like Atlanta did then Joe would have had alot more completions too. The same goes for touchdowns, but let's not forget that Joe was primarily passing to a one armed (so to speak) 34 year old.
Also let's not forget who went one and done in the playoffs, here's a hint: it wasn't Flacco.

IMO, thats the end of this arguement. :P

eventhough i posted the stats, there is more to it than that, i.e. opponents played, WR's on team, top 10 rushing attack

i think the ryan flacco thing will be like brady & manning because at first people couldn't stop talking about peyton but then tom brady kept winning big games & now some peolpe think he is better than peyton but joe flacco & matt ryan will be great qb's but i think matt will be more like manning & joe will be more like brady but he won't need the video tapes
