Work Stoppage

9 posts in this topic

While I know it is a long way off, I am hearing more and more that there will a work stoppage in 2011. I really believe that all fans of all teams need to do whatever they
can to start voicing there displeasure to the league and the ravens as loudly as possible. I love the games, the atmosphere and the noise of going to the games. I went at
consideralble expense, to Miami, Nashville and Pittsburgh following my team. That being said I will not support GREED. Both the owners and players are making huge dollars at our expense. Now they are going to slap the fans in the face with a lockout or strike.

All you hear from both the teams and the NFL is how much they care about their fans. That is obviously a bunch of <hooey>. They couldn't care less if they can't sit down and
figure out how to split up the huge $$$ they are taking in from the fans both in ticket sales and TV.

Some thoughts on this subject???

I'm confident that both the players and the owners will reach an agreement. A work stoppage would be bad for the owners, players, and fans.
I haven't heard anything about a work stoppage from any source. Where did you hear about this?
I've heard that 2010 will be uncapped and that the owners will lock out the players in 2011 if a new CBA isn't signed - one that reduces the players' take - below the 60% it currently is.

Listened to 105.7 FM Mark Viviano. An agent who has 40 NFL players and been in the business for 30 Yrs. said that the collective bargaining agreement had to be in place
by March 2010 in order to avoid a work stoppage. He further commented that in his opinion from talking with player reps etc that he felt there would definetly be a work stoppage in 2011. Not bad news for the players or the owners but very bad for the fans.

I think something will get done. For the very reasons that you are angry about, its in the best interest of the players and owners to get something done. The NFL's fanbase is not as loyal as it seems, its a very casual fan base. I honestly dont think that the NFL will be able to come back as strong if there is a work stoppage.

It happened before, both sides don't want to back down. A work stoppage is a big possibility.

"Loyalty" is overblown. Teams aren't loyal to players anymore. Players aren't loyal to teams any more. The same could be said for any company and employees. Why should fans be any different. Welcome to the "what have you done for me lately" generation.

Negotiating a CBA while the economy is in the tank seems like it will add a lot of difficulty to the process. Owners will want to be cautious while the union probably will want a better deal than last time because of the new Union chief. Breaking in new management is never fun in any field. I really hope they get something done before there is a work stoppage but I doubt that is going to happen.
