Bleeding Purple

I'm New To Online Play

5 posts in this topic

I've been playing Madden on my ps2 for about six years, now. Yesterday, I played my first ever online game, and was a little shocked to see how other players played the game. I've spent so much time trying to play the way I thought was well. I've focused on trying to pass from the pocket, and run between the tackles rather than just repeat the same plays over and over again. I thought that the more you played like a real life game, the better you were. And that's the way it seemed against the cpu. I can completely destroy the cpu on all-madden, so I went into this curious, but confident. Then, I quickly realized that a player could easily beat me by playing erratically. I just lost a game where the opponent only called one play on defense the entire game, he blitzed both inside corners out of the dime package. Yet, run or pass, I couldn't do anything against it. Do any of you have any tips for how to combat this erratic play?

yeah he prob ran dime normal strike 2 deep play. hit the flats or put a receiver in the slot on a curl. and hit him when the db starts to blitz you.

the thing about online now a days, is that you have to play too what is strong in that years game. which mean, like this year, screens, curls, fb dive, and power 0 run plays are dominant. if you need any help just shoot me a message, i show you some good plays.

I hate when players play cheaply like that. I mean, I know, people will say that if you're any good you should be able to stop it. But at the same time, there's a fine line between cheapness and cheating that I don't like, and calling the same defensive play to exploit weaknesses in the game's AI is right on that line.

To combat the nickel or dime blitz, I'll usually go into shotgun formation (preferably 5-wide, if available) and have a slot receiver go on a drag route underneath, or have two receivers go on crossing routes. Usually, I'll be able to get the ball off just in time to the receiver because those two blitzers mean that the defense is usually rushing 6 -- and 11 minus 6 equals only 5 men in coverage, with two of those guys usually playing deep, which really equates to only the two outside corners and the linebacker. So, in all actuality, three defenders against five receivers is a HUGE mismatch, and you can exploit that to your advantage if you time the play correctly.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still committed to realistic play, so I'll try to practice against those plays on my own to get the timing right. I have one more problem, but I'm not sure there will be any advice about this, other than the obvious. I can't perform kicks and punts as well as I'm used to because of the delay. There's a split second delay between my pressing of buttons and the reaction. For the most part, it doesn't affect my game, but the punts and kicks are big. I was really good at pinning the opponent inside the twenty before, but it's very difficult with the delay.

Yea...the only realistic thing about dissecting the defense is if you keep an eye on the safeties, and if you throw away from them, your chances of receiving increase by alot. As for the kicks, i just wait a split second later than i normally would, and when i move the analog stick from down to up, i keep it up for about a couple of seconds. idk hope that helps ;)
