The ravens didn't get any compensatory draft picks this year. Losing Bart Scott and Jason Brown won't affect our compensatory picks until next year's draft so we should get a couple fairly high picks next time.

aaaaah that sucks :( usually ozzie gets his talents with the compensatory picks. Either way, the ravens probably won't need many draft picks this year considering the main issues are WR (1st and/or 2nd round), FB (4th and/or 5th round), cornerback (2/3rd round), and maybe some defensive position for cusion.

does anybody know how exactly the compensatory picks things work? i know that the more veteran players you lose in the preseason, the more compensatory picks (limited) you get during the draft in the postseason. But what i dont know is how is the value of the player determined in what spot we get the compensatory picks?

Compensatory picks are pretty much awarded based on the contract that a lost player signs.. The larger the contract, the better the pick.. The picks are awarded for rounds 3-7..

From Wikipedia:
In addition to the 32 picks in each round, there are a total of 32 picks awarded at the ends of Rounds 3 through 7. These picks, known as "compensatory picks," are awarded to teams that have lost more qualifying free agents than they gained the previous year in free agency. Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks is determined by a proprietary formula based on the player's salary, playing time, and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor. So, for example, a team that lost a linebacker who signed for $2.5 million per year in free agency might get a sixth-round compensatory pick, while a team that lost a wide receiver who signed for $5 million per year might receive a fourth-round pick.

If fewer than 32 such picks are awarded, the remaining picks are awarded in the order in which teams would pick in a hypothetical eighth round of the draft (These are known as "supplemental compensatory selections").

Compensatory picks are awarded each year at the NFL annual meeting which is held at the end of March; typically, about three or four weeks before the draft.

i cant even really think of anyone big who we really lost last year besides JO and Mcnair retiring
Yeah, we lost Steve McNair and Jonathan Ogden.

Those two guys are kind of a big deal. A starting QB and HOF LT. Even if someone retires wouldn't you get a compensatory pick for them. This might be more than a little biased, but I think that they should definately be compensated. Gimme a 3rd and a 4th rounder! Come one.....Do it!

Hell, 1 more yard and McNair was a HOF QB.
