Which free-agent loss hurt the most: Bart Scott, Jason Brown or Jim Leonhard?

Bisciotti: I hope it doesn't hurt the others for me to be honest, but it's Bart Scott. He's a very intelligent guy. He's just one of the great guys. Again, I told him [Saturday] that we'll probably see him again. We know him. He knows us. If he's a free agent when he's 32 years old and we're in the market for a linebacker, it would be a slam dunk. It would take Ozzie 15 minutes to cut that deal. I wish Tavares Gooden were a cornerback. Then, it might have made it a lot easier on us.
Steve got a bit brave there being honest, that will probably get blown out of proportion by someone <_< . Stills it's a pretty risky thing to say considering how many people he involved in it, certainly wouldn't fill me with confidence if I was Tavares Gooden. I guess that's just the price you pay for being honest  .

i think it would give Tavares Gooded a ton of confidence. He is saying that if he didnt think Gooden would do very well replacing Scott they might have not let Bart go. If they didnt have such pressing needs at CB (no depth) they would have not needed to sign Foxworth and would have kept Bart.

I doubt he gets alot of flack from being honest, the Ravens really don't get enough attention to turn that into a drama.

I guess this means Matt Stover really isn't coming back...

I understood his logic behind not bringing back Stover, though. I forgot that the limit on gameday was 45 active players, so it's easy to see where every single slot counts, especially during times where the team is riddled with injuries.

That is the way I interpreted it also. LET'S GO T-GOOD!!

This gave me more insight into what Bisciotti's thinking.

I hadn't really understood the Stover issues until now. I don't like losing him but I understand it now. Happy to hear the other remarks he made about the players, coaches (particularly Mattison), and the 'uncapped' possibility.

As a Mason fan, I was relieved to hear his thoughts on resigning him.

Great Q & A.

Exactly, it says that the front office and coaches are confident in Gooden to fill the shoes of Bart Scott. Otherwise, they would have kept scott and addressed the CB need in the 1st round of the draft probably (or maybe even keeping Rolle) instead of picking up Foxworth.

I think Gooden will excel and playing next to Ray Lewis will only benefit him. I'm very glad Lewis is sticking around with us to train side by side with Gooden and go over game tape together.

What has Tavares Gooden proven so far? IMO, it should make Tavares work that much harder to prove that he can be just as good as Bart. I don't think anyone will look too far into that statement.

Not to mention that he said if Tavares Gooden was a CB, we would have never let Bart go. To me thats saying that he believes Gooden can step in and play just as effective.

"If it meant that I had to subsidize the team for a couple of years in order to keep us competitive, I think Baltimore would be proud to see the way I stepped up."

:D Bisciotti is awesome!! I like his confidence and he really seems to be in tune with what we are trying to do in the player department. He's hands on without being Jerry Jones-ish. They seem to be high on Gooden stepping in and producing right away.

I also thought it was a kind of poke at Ray when he said it "Humored" him. Kind of like we knew Ray wouldn't get a better deal. Also kind of saying "I won" in a way, just struck me as funny.

Huh?

I think Steve is saying that Gooden is very good, therefore they could afford to let Bart go. If, however, Gooden were a CB, then they would've had to resign Bart.

I think.

I thought his best line came during the press conference about that situation. He flat out said that "luckily" the owners in this league weren't crazy enough to pay Ray "crazy money!".

Pretty much saying, "you thought you were worth 10 million a year but you obviously were mistaken!"

All in all, I don't care and I'm glad Ray is back.

Great article! Hey it looks like we know who will be taking Scott's place now right? It seems they have been pretty high on Gooden for a while...it's exciting to see more youth coming into our linebacker group, especially with Ray sticking around to be the mentor, we can sustain our LB dominance for years :D

"If it meant that I had to subsidize the team for a couple of years in order to keep us competitive, I think Baltimore would be proud to see the way I stepped up." Steve Bisciotti

I venture to say that most of you who have read this sentence dont understand its meaning. Its just another billion dollar industry with its hand out. What a great way to step up Steve, how much more should the citizens of Baltimore pay in taxes to "keep the team competitive"? What about the hundreds of millions of tax payers dollars that were allocated to build the stadium. Maybe the Owner and the players should take that 10% pay cut he was talking about making.

"Before we would lay off 10 percent of our organization, the organization would vote to take a 10 percent pay cut if those were the choices." Steve Bisciotti

Heres a MUST read on the economic impact that professional sports have on their cities and the hidden subsidies being handed out. After all, higher ticket prices, more taxes, this is a recession right?

If not this year, then it would happen next year anyway. If someone that pissed about it then they can easily sell a ticket for one game and probably make up the difference. My total bill went up $100. But with the fact that we paid for playoff tickets that we never used last season, my bill was pretty low.

I understand what you are saying and I'm not trying to tell you that you're wrong. And the points you have can make a very valid argument.

I just don't feel like getting pissed over the inevitable.

You may have misunderstood what Mr. Bisciotti meant. I believe he was talking about subsidizing the team out of HIS OWN POCKET rather than relying on the team to pay its own way.

And, for the record, political (and thus economic) discussions are prohibited in these forums.

Precisely, he is willing to foot the bill, if thats what it comes to. This shows how much he cares for the team and is willing to put his wallet on the table to keep it going.

I see that completely different. I think that should give Gooden all the confidence in the world. To hear that your owner let a guy who he's very big on walk because he believes you can step in and replace him, is a huge complement to him, imo.

I agree on the punctuation. But taking it all the way to the There, Their, and They're thing is a little over board.
also off topic, anyone feel like saying "They're" instead of just typing they are is kinda dumb? lol it's the same amount of letters.
