Flacco Expendable?

119 posts in this topic

On NFL Network Rod Woodson would consider trading Flacco if in Ozzie's shoes, as he considers Troy Smith to be in the midst and to have the 'it' factor therefore making Flacco available for trade value. Is this even thinkable!? Would any of you guys even consider any kind of trade for Flacco?

My bad btw if something has already been posted along these lines.

I think Rich Eisen asked him who he thinks the next Matt Cassel is, and he answered Troy Smith. I guess he just thinks that Troy will get a shot at some point, somewhere...

absolutely not. Flacco is a star in the making. He's the current Rookie of the Year. And he just took us to the AFC championship game. Why would we trade him. If he did that good his rookie year, what do you think he's gonna be able to do once he has 2-3 years under his belt???

This would be a horrible move......

Obviously, why on earth would we trade the future?!

Yes, troy can be a starting quaterback in the nfl! Thats what makes him a great back up quaterback. In todays nfl you need a solid back up and last year, tom brady shows us why. Also, flacco is going to be a monster in this league and heres why; He has a great arm, he can run the ball and he can catch passes, he can scramble, get out of would be tackles and he is six six! Not to mention that he played college ball at deleware for two years so the pro game was too fast for him and he led us to the afc championship game. Can you imagine what type of quaterback he will be when the games slows down for him? It would be stupid to trade him! He has to much potential! Does anybody agree?

Flacco is expendable like my liver is; just 'cause it's taken a beating, doesn't mean you should get rid of it, though. ;)

I wouldn't get too worked up over that. As he progresses, he will learn not to do those kind of things because he's risking his career there because the defense has a free shot at him. As the years go on, he will do these kinds of things less and less.

(if he continues to grow like he did last season)

I think Rod was complementing Troy Smith rather than saying Flacco isn't a starter.

Then again I'd defend Rod no matter what he said :P

Yeah i usually agree with and back Rod on most of his opinions...this one surprised me though! Then again, maybe he's been into Ravens facility and had a look at Troy for himself :o speculation!

Of course he's had a look at Troy for himself. He's also had a look at Flacco for himself and Boller for himself.

Considering how last season went, which of the three would you say he thought was impressive after the fact? ;)

Either way, I'm a fan of Rod Woodson when he's doing his thing on the NFL Network, but I really think this is one case where he wasn't as careful with his words as he should've been, and he's probably just doing the tabloid-journalism thing and is saying something to stir up a slow news day is all. Believe me, Rod's comments will be forgotten in a month's time.

Flacco never really said the game was too fast for him. He said football is football just go out there play and win some games!
How bout instead of trading Flacco, we trade Troy???
If he's THAT good according to Rod
HOW BOUT WE DONT TRADE EITHER UNLESS WE PICK UP VICK ON WHOLESALE!! Doubt that will happen! Cam's system allows both quarterbacks to play and cause trouble for defenses. With a year of learning his plays i think cam will allow his offense to open up and make insane highlight reals. Troy stays, plus he is a good talent that is cap friendly. Flacco stays, he is no big ben and does not need to be, but the future of the ravens and top quaterback in the afc north. Go steelers, home for the playoffs next year that is.

Getting Vick would be a bad move for just about any team. That's inviting a circus into your locker room. Also, if Flacco is no Big Ben and Big Ben is in the AFC North then how is Flacco the top QB in the AFC North? Trading Flacco would be a terrible move. I think Woodson is getting commentator disease. You know the one where people say anything to have people think they said something interesting.

Lol slight contradiction there DBOWSRAVENS, and ouuucchhh i don't think anyone is going to want Vick unless every QB on someone's roster goes down! Woodson's description of Ryan - 'young talented QB who showed a lot of poise in the pocket' and considered him untradeable. How does Flacco not fit this description?? Ugh i hate these Ryan/Flacco comparisons, which always end in people disregarding Flacco completely!!

So if he thinks Troy Smith is the next Matt Cassel, that means Flacco is the next Brady right? :P

GQ JOE!! :D

We should let Troy play some this season to let his stock rise then trade him at the end of the season to get some good draft picks :)

No, the Ravens should keep him. It's vital to have a good backup. NE lost Brady last year, and Cassell led them to 11-5. The Titans relied on backup Kerry Collins over Vince Young.

And the Bengals stank with Ryan Fitzpatrick replacing Carson Palmer...

Rod Woodson REALLY likes Troy Smith. I dont think I've ever heard him say a bad thing about the guy. I dont know that I want Smith over Flacco but I think Smith can be a solid QB in this league. He can be a guy like David Gerrard. Give him the right surrounding cast and he could be effective enough to win. Having said that Flacco is the guy, Troy is number 2.

No one puts in the backup QB unless the starter is hurt or the game is well in-hand with lots of time left. So, to risk a game by putting in the backup just to boost his stock, looks arrogant and foolish at the same time.

I think Rod had too much coffee or something when he was talking about Flacco and T. Smith. Either that or he's afraid of just how good the Ravens would be with an experienced QB with some crazy arm strength and talent. No matter what the case may be, Flacco will not be traded any time soon. Cam Cameron likes Flacco way too much. Don't get me wrong, I think T. Smith is a good QB but he's untested in tough situations. The only game time he got is when we were mostly likely to lose or win or a play here and there. I go with the rookie that helped take us to the AFC Championship game. That comment Rod made was just absolutely foolish.
