The New Season

Years gone by Peyton has picked apart our secondary. The recent news of the addition of Carr and Foxworth with our current D has me anxiously awaiting the Colts.
At home mind you.

I thik this is the year we finally put it to them.

And Harrison wont be there to rip us apart again. I can't tell how many times CMac fell for that double move.

I'd like to believe that, but I'm skeptical. The Colts are very good and just like we tend to wipe the floor with the Browns, the Colts usually destroy us; but hey, hope springs eternal.
Question: don't the Ravens tend to play better on the road, or was that just this year?

With all due respect...

Carr was an average, backup CB - and a great returner. His arrival won't slow down Manning.

The jury's out on Foxworth. Hope springs eternal, but the truth is, only one offseason ago, he was traded to Atlanta for a 7th round draft choice. I'm not sure if he's the "turning point" against Manning-Wayne+Gonazalez...

i'll just address a few things:

to the original poster.... be careful what you wish for.

the colts have not only beaten the Ravens numerous times... but it is normally a BLOWOUT and not a close game decided by a field goal. the lone exception being in the playoffs in 2006 when THE DEFENSE shut peyton manning down and kept them to 5 field goals for a total of 15 points. and not to mention... most of those field goals were over 40 yards.

and about the Ravens being better on the road? No... like a previous poster stated, they are in the top 3 teams for home record over the past 5 years.

and yes, Marvin Harrison is gone. But so is McAlister and Rolle. I don't see how you can even think about saying that Carr and Foxworth are on the level of Chris and Samari. Chris and Samari might be "past their prime'" but have foxworth and carr shown anything to suggest they will even have a prime?

I really thought this was the year we would finally not have to play the Colts after playing them 3 years in a row. But no... we just had to settle for 2nd in our division, and they did the same... so we're stuck playing them another year. Let's hope it's early in the season and we get it over with.

I'm 90% there but I'll be totally excited once we stock up on receivers in this draft. I can't wait to see what the Ravens do to make Joe's job easier.

No disrespect taken.

I know our secondary has been a soft spot for some time and it SEEMS like it has been the focus of attention this off season.

More than the steelers I want to beat the colts this season.

I'll stop being excited and try to relax and settle into "off season mode"

One of the biggest problems we had was the Manning - Harrison connection. Even just last season, when Harrison was having a horrid season, they still connected twice. CMac was notorious for biting on Peyton's pump fake. The game was early in the season too. So couple a more experienced Flacco, with some offensive upgrades, along with an improved D (remember Landry will be back in the secondary as well), and we have a really good shot. Nothing is a lock by any means though. They still have a talented D, and Clark and Addai to compliment Peyton and his WRs. Either way it'll be much improved, gone are the days of Peyton bending us over....hopefully

Every time people talk about the Colts they always mention their offense and sorry ****** Peyton Manning. (He is good but I can't stand him.) However, everyone overlooks one thing. That's their defense. Very speedy and intelligent defensive players. In a way, I think the Colts defense is a little bit soft but hey they get the job done for the most part. Not to mention the fact that the offense can't score unless they're on the field and that's something the Colts defense has been good at for the most part. They give Peyton a chance to score and that's all they need to win. We have to be able to score points against the Colts early or we allow their offense to do what they want. The Colts offense ain't as good when it comes down to the wire. We seen that this past season in their close games against Minnesota and such. You have to make the Colts offense frustrated. So... Yeah the Ravens have a good shot at the Colts this coming season but I don't think it's any more than the past year. Just my opinion though.

Also.... Everyone mentions Harrison. Harrison was only so effective because of all the productive receivers they have. Clark, Wayne, gonzalez. All of em can be a threat. So... Sometimes it's a matter of cover as many as you can and still put pressure on the QB. Just so happens Harrison burnt McAlister on more than just a few occasions.

I think this is THE year.

no more dungy, no more marvin.

not to mention that we wont get burned this year with corners falling for pump fakes.
with all do respect to C-Mac, Peyton Manning owned him last year. He bit on those pump fakes, and Marvin Harrison would be trotting into the endzone.

Im excited about this year, I think we have a shot against the pats too.

Off Topic: The Terps made the NCAA Tournament :D

:D

Just the thought of Manning walking behind his O-line, calling out the signals... and the thought of him, grimacing & flat on his back, with 600 lbs of LB/DL on top of him, can get all of our blood pressures up. Now, we have to wait 4 more weeks for the draft... then 3 more months til training camp.

Despite my previous "negativity", I think the Ravens FO is doing the right thing - taking a chance with youth at DB is better than sticking with Rolle & CMac again. They've both been excellent DBs, but everyone gets older...

They do have LOTS of weapons - but Manning can't complete many passes laying flat on his back. Maybe if Suggs & Barnes can meet at #18 a few times...

The key to beating ANY good QB is pressure, not necessarily great CB coverage - you can hide mediocre corners with a good pass rush.

I'm not going to excited about the new season until I know two things, one how the Ravens Schedule is aligned. (Do we play the Colts and Patriots back to back like in 2007, who do we play first, what stretch of the schedule is easy, which is hard, etc.) Second, how the Draft pans out for the Ravens. Do the Ravens get the players they want, do big name players fall to the Ravens. I think it is way too hard to get excited about the season when we don't know the schedule and how the draft plays out. But I do like your enthusiasm though. ;)

P.S. Does anyone know when the Schedule will be released? I remember watching NFL Total Access, and they were talking about it being put together and they didn't say when the Schedule Release show would be. I can't find anything on NFL Network about the date it gets released.

I think we might play better against them next year, but it is still to early to get a feel as to how our team is going to look and play together. We have a quicker, younger secondary and Flacco is going into his second year, so you never know.

If the colts messed our secendary up with cmac in it one of the best cb in leage what do you think there going to do to our secendary without him back there ?

the reason he missed Cmac up was cause he like reed is also a ball hawk, thats why he bit; and for all of you saying foxworth and carr as the CB's... i believe its foxworth and WASHINGTON as the starting corners.... that is IF rolle gets released (we don't know if he will or not) unless i missed something

I'm indifferent towards the Colts. Bring on the Steelers! Looking forward to getting closer in the series. Right now they are up 18-10 including both playoff meeting wins.

I read that we have one of the best win percentages at home in ALL of sports. I think we were in first place followed by the Yankees and Spurs (the 2007 season set us back, but we're still up there).

Interesting. This year all I heard announcers talking about was how well the Ravens were doing on the road and that is was probably better that the playoffs were on the road and so on and so forth.

They talked about how well the Ravens did on the road because of the rookie QB. Everyone was amazed at how calm Flacco was in hostile situations.

I am. As we all should.

The way I see it, if we want to be the best, we have to beat the best. No other way around it. So, either get the monkey off our backs and finally beat the Colts in a meaningful game or they'll continue to have our number.
