The Ravens Released Backup Inside Linebacker Nick Greisen

25 posts in this topic

Do you agree with the move? Greisen, made only five tackles on defense last season, which was 33 fewer than he had the previous season. He also finished fifth with 12 special teams tackles last season. The Ravens saved $400,000 in salary-cap space and now have a little over $2 million in cap room.

This seems like a silly thing to do. We were pretty thin at ILB as it was. We must be lining up some FA moves or a couple in the draft.

We'll probably bring in somebody else to take his spot. Either that or they expect Burgess back. Either way Greisen wasn't that important, he was just a special teamer.

Wow!

Nick Greisen may not have been a starter. But he had tremendous talent...especially on special teams. It's a shame to see him go.

The again, everything happens for a reason...

I'm not a big fan of this move. With a mostly young LB core, Griesen brought good special teams skills and starting experience to the table. I know we have 3 of the 4 spots locked down with Suggs, Ray, and J.J., but I think Griesen was a decent player.

The FO is probably planning to make a couple moves soon, just watch

I think it's the fact that our FO has a lot of confidence in our LBs.

Brendon Ayanbadejo
Jameel McClain
Prescott Burgess
Ray Lewis
Antwan Barnes
Terrel Suggs
Tavares Gooden
Jarret Johnson

i dont really mind the move too much. we have decent depth at lb and well most certainly draft one. and with him being the only other ilb with experience it pretty much garuntees gooden starting right away taking scotts place which we all expected anyway.

I don't know. Is it a little strange to dump veteran depth from the linebacker spot? I'd say yeah.

But on the other hand, its probably not going to be a huge loss in the long run. And who knows, they could be making some cap room to pick up another free agent somewhere. Ozzie did say that they are not finished with free agency yet so who knows. Maybe this little bit of money is something they needed for their next move.

If the Raven's did it, you have to agree! In Ozzie you trust! Did you forget? B)

I liked Greisen, he was a good backup. I remember when Ray was out a game in our dreadful 2007 season, Nick posted 10 tackles. He also destroyed someone on a special teams block or tackle this season, it was a monstrous hit. Maybe we released him to sign a free agent. I think after we make a deal with Suggs and restructure some contracts, we will have extra money and possibly bring him back.

tavares gooden would have had more ST tackles than ayambadejo in which he would have been in the probowl as a rookie first one down the field everytime until daren stone came along and when he went on IR.

Didn't you know? Selective memory is the latest trend around here.

Nick will probably find a spot on another team, the league loves smart linebackers.

I don't mind the move, hoping for big things from our young guys, especially Prescott.

He didn't. The article just says that Flacco reached incentive clauses built into his existing contract (mostly due to playing time) that kicked in more money.
