I couldn't care less what Rex needs.

I still don't understand what he is trying to do, take all of our mediocre players?
I think we as Ravens fan might be valuing Troy a little more then other NFL personell will. I definately think Troy has what it takes to be a quality NFL QB, but unless he has a tremendous showing in the preseason i don't see many teams knockin our door down to Trade for Troy.

Troy Smith is an great talent and i'm sure Cam will continue to find a way to use him. I wouldn't be surprised to see Troy used on screens, quick screens, or just some plan WR routes. He will have the chance to throw the football and he has great leadership ability, unfortunate for him Joe step up and took his place as Baltimore's Future.

Most of what Troy has done for us has been done with his feet. I think that will be his best asset and he would be smart to do anything that would get him on the field more this season. I think Troy will be a RFA next season and i beleive the Ravens will want to keep him around. So if they do trade him they will look to get some good value for him.
Troy started 2 games for us in 2007. He threw a perfect deep ball to Mason vs the Seahawks and the week after he beat the Steelers. Last season he was not a true QB but the year before he was and he looked great even though he was a rookie.

Not if it's a trade and he comes in for a physical. I doubt it though, nobody has reported anything yet.

We can't afford to trade for him, his cap number for this year is 10.2 million.

You can always renegotiate and change those numbers but i don't know what the point of that would be considering that we could get him for free in a couple weeks or so.

I really like Troy and would like him to stay, but as I am a fan of his I'd like to see him prosper with another team and make a name for himself.

R U Serious? Holt? OMG... i know you guys are going to disagree with me. But Holt is my fav reciever and i think he is a top 5 WR. imo if he is here we will have the best WR in the AFC North at least. I've been somewhat a rams fan back with Warner and all and Holt has never slowed down, he is the one constant on that team (maybe except last year) because the QB was getting hit right after taking the snap, and any time the QB did have 1 second to look around, Holt was double covered. This will open up so many things for us if we can get him here. Even though holt didn't get the ball that many times, he was running his routes great just like he always does, he was getting open just like he always does, but bulger, green and the back ups who came after both those guys got injured were getting killed. 2 years ago bulger got beat down early in the season, and gus freaking ferrotte was throwing and he still got a 1000 yards. Holt has amazing speed and a scary deep threat. I won't be convinced his age is getting to him until i see it with my own eyes, people saying he is done because of a bad rams season is unfair. Heck even T.O produces and he is way older. Come on ozzie, get a deal done!

Having one good deep pass against what was a bad Seahawks team, plus a decent performance vs a Steelers team with there mind clearly on the playoff doesn't say much. I think given the time and effort under Cam and Hue, Troy could definately have success in the NFL as a QB.ssssss But make no mistake about it, no one is looking at Troy Smith to be their starting QB right now.

Also remember before the shoulder injury and the tonsil problem, Boller and Smith seemed to be neck and neck in the QB race last preseason, and many might argue that Boller outplayed Smith in the limited time.

Troy has a lot more to prove before he can be viewed upon as even a quality backup QB not to mention a starter. With proven guys like Leftwhich, Batch,Gracia, and even Anderson(who had a pro bowl season) still avalible i find it hard to beleive that anyone would come knocking for Troy Smith. I know Rex is the head coach but at some point the FO has to step in and say to him enough with the Ravens players.
What makes u think they will be a top 5 defense this year. Signing Bart Scott, Jimmy Leonhart, Corey Ivy, and Marques Dougless doesn't add up to a top 5 defense. I have no doubt that they will be a pretty good defense but to say they will be top 5 is a bit of wishful thinking.
Well for 1 I said they will become one of the leagues best defenses this year. I said IF they draft Tyson Jackson in the 1st they will become a top 5 defense.

And this is why:

CB
Darrelle Revis (Pro Bowl CB)
Lito Shepard (Pro Bowl CB)
Ty Law (Pro Bowl CB)

S
Kerry Rhodes (Pro Bowl FS)
Jim Leonhard (we all know what he can do)

LB
Bart Scott (Pro Bowl LB)
David Harris
Vernon Gholston (w/Rex = monster)

DL
Shaun Ellis (Pro Bowl DE)
Kris Jenkins (Pro Bowl DT)
+ Tyson Jackson = dominance out the yang
Possibly Marques Douglas

Oh yeah, just to throw this out there....REX RYAN
Well today I got the rare opportunity of meeting THE Bazooka, arm cannon, unibrowin', gunslinging, rookie of the year winning Joe Flacco and yes it was as great as you imagine. There was also other players, like Musa Smith and many many others. (if anyone of you true Ravens fans remember) Also the Eagles Mascot was there SWOOP!. I also got an opportunity to speak with Joe's agent and do I got some news for ya'll!

Here's the dish:
- Tory Holt was at our facilities today and word has it that he looked really good.
- Karl Paymah had an awful workout with us and he will not be a Raven. "Harbs didn't like em'"
- He stressed that Dom (Foxworth) is going to be a BEAST!
- He is also Matt Birk's agent ironically enough so I got the dish on him. And he believes not only does he have 2 good year in him but 3-4 more! "His work ethic is freaking incredible and hes a genuine nice guy"
-Suggs has gained some weight which is supposedly good news and so has Gooden. Tavares seems to be the front runner to fill up Bart Scott's job.
- Ray Lewis received no offers by any team except the Ravens (Go Figure)
- And the most shocking news of the night is; The Jets are going to make a push to trade for TROY SMITH! Not only is JL Joe's agent but hes also Troy's agent. He said the Jets are going to try to trade for him during the draft. "Rex Loves Troy"

No rookie is going to be able to step in and be as effective as Troy could if something happened to Joe. 1)Troy is a veteran and has NFL experience, whoever we draft wont, 2) Troy has been our system for a year already, and he has that over a rookie. 3) He knows our personal. If Rex wants Troy he better be willing to pay big for him. I am talking a 2nd round pick.

I found that odd as well about Tory Holt coming to our facility since talking to him would be Illegal because he is still in contract with the rams AND that would be TAMPERING. Can someone correct me if i am wrong.
Troy Smith's contract will be up next year and I think we ran the "Suggs Package" just to get Troy involved, for excitement, or just because we could. We could always get Pat White, as a WVU Mountaineer, I would love that!! We also have Mark Clayton who played QB in college and can be used the same way Troy was.
But he will be an RFA. If we tender him high enough we can get a really good pick out of it.

I enjoy your passion and respect your input, but making 1 pro bowl doesn't make u a great player or add up to great defensive success. So that removes Bart Scott and Shaun Ellis. As far as Ty Law, well he has been on 3 teams in the last 4 seasons. Great players don't move around like that, just guys that are pass their prime.

Kris Jenkins is great, i have no beef with him.

Jimmy Leonheart? I think many of us need to give that story a break. He played great next to a future HOF safety and a guy that many say may be the best to play his position. I take nothing away from Leonhart but it's not like he came in and just took Landry's job away from the start. Plus if we tought he was that valuable then he would have been resigned. It wasn't like we couldn't afford to bring him back, we just couldn't promise him a starting job. Now doesn't that sound like somethina u tell a great player? or even an important part of your team's success? Leonhart did well for us last year, but nothing special.

Revis, Rhodes, and Harris are all great young talents. However they are not enough and the Jets will have to add more young talent to these guys. I like all three of these guys.

As far as Gholston being a beast with Rex Ryan..Prove it. Only once has a Rex Ryan lead defense produced a player with 10+ sacks in a season. Now granted in 06 we had 4 but that was a special year. Since Rex took over the most sacks anyone has had was 8 by Suggs(other then 06). While guys like Marvin Lewis and Mike Nolan produced guys with double digit sacks almost yearly. Now this is not a knock on Rex, but in Gholston's case i don't see him as being as good as guys like Suggs,AD,and Pete. So Gholston = Beast? talk to me when the kid has his first NFL sack.

Lito Shepard is still a very good cornerback in the NFL and trading for him was probably a good move by the Jets. However the Eagles felt like they needed to go out and get Ashate Samuel for a reason, and felt Shepard was expendable for a reason. Could they have made a mistake in letting him go? yes. but i see shepard as another system player and he was prefect in Jim Johnsons system. Only time will tell with the Jets.

I think if the Jets draft Tyson Jackson it will be a huge mistake. They have some concerns on the offensive side of the ball that could be addressed in round 1 and if Jackson is the pick i think they would be off to a bad start in the draft. I beleive Jackson will be a really good De in the NFL just wouldn't select him if i were the Jets.

Now to Rex Ryan. I love Rex as a Defensive coordinator. Rex was the man in Baltimore even as our Dline coach. I hope Rex does well in New York. However being a great Coordinator doesn't make u a good head coach. Also Rex will not be as directly involved in the defense in NY as he was in Baltimore. As i said before Rex didn't make the Ravens defense great. He just had to maintain our defensive greatness. Ozzie and company supplied him with great talent, all Rex had to do was us it. Many could argue that players like Ed Reed and Ray Lewis had just as much to do with our defense being great as Rex.

Also Rex has a great defensive mind, but sometimes he can get a little too creative for his own good. While having guys like Ngata and Gregg droping back into coverage looks good, it takes away from what they do best. Also many times when QBs and Olines weren't confused by the movement of Rex's defense, we were beat. A lot of times we had players out of position because they were trying to confuse the offense and ended up in a mismatch. Having a guy like ED Reed playing 20-30 yards away from the LOS to protect against the deep pass, doesn't make Rex great, it just allows Rex to do more with other players.

This post probably makes me sound like i hate Rex. Well i don't, i just can't understand how having him as a Head Coach will improve the Jets defense. Has history not taught us anything?

I didn't even take the time to read past the 1st 2 sentences cause obviously you have no clue what you're talking about. If you think for one second the Jets are a team to sleep on next year you're foolish.

Their defense is gonna be sick. But it's cute tho that you tried to put up an argument for why you think otherwise. I would respond more thoughtfully, but, I don't feel like wasting my time.

The numerous amount of times I've been right on this message board is ridiculous. I'm like the football Nastradamus up in this BIA. Don't believe me, go back to June and read my posts about the 08 season b4 it started. Take my word on it: The Jets will be a top 10 defense in both the run and pass for the 09 season.

Ravensfan23, you make a lot of good points. I dont think the Jets are going to be a dominate defense like ours has been but they have the potential to be really good. It all depends on how well those guys play togethere. The thing about the Ravens when Rex was here is that when our defense changes the guys who come in have been in our system for a year or so, and have chemistry with the guys who are already starters. And very rarely do we add 4 or 5 new starters per season like the Jets are doing. I think thats going to be an even bigger factor in what the Jets are able to do, then their players themselves.

if so, i dont think they have the depth at all at LB. i really dont see lito and ty law playing as pro bowl corners this upcoming year.. yes they have been pro bowlers and have had great years but i dont see them doing that ....

i totally agree with RavensIQ. the jets will have a great defense next year, and its because they do have the players not even becuz they have rex at headcoach. their defense was top 10 last year at the beginning of the year they just lost focus and fell apart and thats were rex will step in and help. Kerry Rhodes is the 2nd best FS in the AFC behind reed. leonhard will upgrade the SS postion. Revis is one of the best CBs in the league and is a rising star. Lito's solid. Harris is great on the inside. bart will continue to do what hes done here. calvin pace is no suggs but hes better then JJ. their biggest weakness is LOLB, but if gholston does become good then look out. as for their d-line, jenkins is a beast and coleman and ellis are solid. so their D will be very good.
