Ravens Message Board Chat Room

If there was a chat room in place on this message board, would you all use it? I know I would, and think it would be a great addition to the site.

I'd definitely use it. It'd be a great replacement for game threads, and it'd be a quickie replacement for the Dump Thread.

Too hard to moderate. What's going to happen when someone "goes off" or it gets invaded by the opposition? Chat rooms are great, but you need a way to control who gets in.

There are plenty of ways (filters, etc.) that would make it very easy to moderate and prevent people from "going off" as you put it... and should anyone abuse it, make it so you can revoke chat privileges.

Let only people with a certain amount of posts or age on the boards get on. That would be great during games. During the playoffs, everytime I refreshed there was another page, lol.

i'd def use it, but what would be a good # of posts to use it cause u constantly have new ppl coming in... i.e. myself, i think whoever starts it should delegate the power to moderate it to ppl they trust and make it PW protected (if you can) and whenever the creator/moderator of the board feels it is someone capable of using it can give them the PW to get in.... while laying out the rules.... (like no sharing the PW w/ other ppl)



sounds nerdy/geeky, but really only way you could keep tabs on it

or if there is a way directly correlate it w/ the site?

idk, just throwing ideas out there

I like the idea of a post limit to enter the chat.. Or maybe do a combination of post limit and the join date of that user.. I've been a member on these boards for over a year and I check these boards every day, but i dont post frequently.. So having the chat protected by join date and posts could help out the people who are active members, but just dont get too involved in posting..

I definitely think a chat room would be very effective, popular, and convenient for the boards..

but the issue with that is you have people joining every day, therefore someone who comes in and isn't a troll cant use the board til that time..... gotta be a way where its fair to everyone

Maybe there could be a chat moderator(or two) who can warn rowdy posters, or even remove them from the chat if its necessary.. If someone decides to disturb the chat, their posting privileges could be taken away temporarily or maybe even permanently depending on the circumstances.. I definitely think a chat would be 100% more effective than the game threads..

But, there still has to be a way to moderate it because of the board's code of conduct. So, I see a limit like that as incentive for newer members to participate more; not only that, but I think access to the chat room should be based on quality not quantity of posts (sort of like nominations for the Post From the Press Box contests).

I like the idea of allowing certain users to moderate the chat room, though.
