Interesting...Derrick was just now on NFLTA talking great about the Ravens and Flacco and Ray Lewis. He didn't "sound" unhappy to be here.

If that's the case, then I'm guessing either this story is only half-true or completely false.

Otherwise, if he were truly unhappy, either one of the NFLTA guys would've baited him into talking about it, or he would've made subtle hints at it (or pulled a T.O. and blatantly expressed his unhappiness).

NFL.com has an article on it.

It doesn't seem as if he's unhappy, he just wants an extension to give him the luxury of being able to play beyond next season for another year or two. Seems reasonable. It doesn't seem like he wants a major pay bump or anything of that nature.

In a year or so I can still see him being a great slot guy, but he is getting older and slowing down a little bit.

I say pay the man if for no other reason then the fact that he played last seaon with his shoulder banged up and never complained. The man has heart!

I think Mason should get what he wants .He showed alot of dedication and heart in the playoffs playing with his separated shoulder. That's putting the team first so I think he deserves it.

i would agree go ahead and give him a little security on the cheap. I am sure he realizes he is not a 5 mil a year receiver anymore. Plus currently 3rd and 6 who else you want the ball to be thrown to on our team?

I agree, he just wants an extension, so how this translates into being unhappy is a mystery to me

Say this all you want, but without these so called "washed up" players we wouldn't have beat the Titans in the Playoffs this year, Heap doesn't catch clutch play then Stover doesn't get to make the feild goal that wins the game!

Because saying a player is unhappy with his current team makes more headlines, then just saying a player would like an contract extension. I think we all seen a couple of years ago, if DMase was unhappy he wouldn't have a problem saying so.

However just because he would like a extension doesn't mean he has to go out in the media and display it. I'm sure he has spoken to Ozzie and company and i'm sure they already have an idea of what they plan on doing with DMase.

I think that we should extend him for 2 years. That would leave Mase at about 38 years old, and hopefully with a Super Bowl rings on his finger. I think Mase would be more then happy to retire at that point.

Mase kind of hinted towards retire after the Championship game, but i think it had more to do with his shoulder then his desire. However, once that thought of retirement gets into your mind, that clock starts ticking. Mase would continue to be a hellva slot guy for the next 3 seasons.

I say we draft the kid that we feel will be that stud WR that we want. Keep Mase in the slot for his ability to move the chains, and have everyone else compete for playing time.

Like someone mentioned above, i think Justin Harper has what it takes to step up in camp this year. I also wanna see what Smith brings to the table and if DWill can come back 100%. I think the addition of a draft pick(Kenny Britt) to a WR crop of Clayton,DWill,Smith,Harper,Wheelwright and Maxwell, will mean lots of good competetion in Camp.

I think this years training camp will be one of the most competetive in recent years. We all know Harbs likes to have a up tempo practice, the Defense will have a few position battles, plus they will wanna prove that they can be great without Rex. The offense will have a few position battles, plus they are in year 2 of Cams offense and we know who our QB is(no rotation).

I think as fans we all will be interested to see if this team is truely on the path to greatness or if last season was just us sneaking up on people. I think we have some tremdous young talent and i think we all will be happy and excited watching these kids this year.

Flacco,Rice,McClain,Ngata,Landry,Washington,Foxworth,Gooden,J.McClain,Barnes,Gai
ther,Grubbs,Yanda,Burgress,DWill,Harper,Smith,Zibby,Nakamura,Stone, and the draft picks. I think training camp will be really fun this year. Real Fun.

I agree as long as it's within reason. lol Can't give everybody everything they want. But Mason needs to stay and we should make it happen.

He looked and sounded positive in the new video posted on this site. I'm hoping they sign him for the three years.

Sorry to get off topic but did anyone read the article about the Jets still looking for a QB? Surely Rex wouldn't come after Joe would he????? That's an awful thought and I don't think Joe would even entertain the idea, at least I hope not. How long is Joe's contract for anyone know?

It has nothing to do with Joe, If Rex wanted Joe he would have to go through Ozzie and that ain't happening. Ozzie and the Ravens have been looking for a franchise QB since the move and we think we finally have one. No Way Ozzie lets Joe go for anything. But if Rex wants a QB i hear Derek Anderson is up for grabs in Cle.
I say restructure his contract he's earned it. But when push comes to shove if we need the extra cap space for Anquan Boldin I say cut Mason and let Clayton take over for the old man.

Anquan wants to be released. Ozzie PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ offer a trade!
Anquan Boldin's agent has come out to say he deserves around $10 Million a year. That's after you make a trade to get him.

Still think it's a good idea?

Yeah, I was thinking they don't need two high priced QBs on their roster. What would they want in a trade, besides Vernon Gholston? A LOT of picks prolly cause they know the Jets are desperate.

Thanks, I'm glad you shared this. I didn't get the impression from the article that he was unhappy, just that he's hoping for a contract to play out his career without worrying about all this.

I'm not saying Heap is washed up, but if Heap didn't make that catch, whoever else that would have been playing that position probably would have. That's not a knock against Heap, just that your premise doesn't necessarily lead to your conclusion. I hope Heap and Flacco build up a connection in the preseason, because I would like to see him become more of an offensive factor.

I'd like to see Derrick get the contract he wants, I just don't know if it would be a good move for the Ravens if the price gets too high. I guess this is just one more thing I'll leave to Ozzie and the gang.
Uh, that is far from the truth. According to all reports Minnasota was doing everything under there power to keep him. He simply liked the idea of playing here better. Why do you think he didnt sign with us yesterday after his intial visit? He wanted to give some thought about going back to Minn.
Not true. We could have given him more money than what we offered, but (foolishly) tried to get him as cheap as possible.

Birk is a local guy, too, from St. Paul. One of my favorite Vikings players, and I'll be cheering for the Ravens because of him.

I got to disagree with that one. That catch vs the Titans was classic Todd Heap. I am not sure anybody but classic Todd could have held on. He had every reason in the world to drop it. There were 4 Titans around him, it was on a rope, and he took a massive hit that knocked his helmet square off his head. I cant think of one other guy on this roster that would have held onto that ball. Maybe a guy from another team but no one on this one.

Looking at NFLTA they are talking to Mase about the contract and he doesn't seem unhappy at all. It really didn't even seem like he was pressed about money. He just seemed to really want to be in baltimore. I thinks we have something special and seems to just wanna stay around and have a great situation to retire in.

I think the reports of Mason being "unhappy" about his contract was media hype overblown. Like i said just listening to him talk about it, he wants to be a Ravens for his last few years and i think that he should be.

Mason didn't start his career as a Ravens but i would sure as hell love for him to finish with us. And hopefully we can get him that Super Bowl ring that he deserves.

This thread topic is false! D. Mason wants to be a Baltimore Raven for a few more years and wants his contract extended. He is more concerned with the extension than the money from what I take from the conversation on NFL Net.

Derrick says he only wants to play for another 3 years. So if the Ravens gave him a 2 year extension i think it would be best for all. As i said before Mason could go out on a high note and on his terms. He would still play with passion and mentor the young guys.

Mason says he has about 3 years left in the tank, and i want him in a Ravens uniform

You know once we get ourselves a great RT we can start bringing out the 3 reciever sets and unleashing Mason in the slot, thats money.

You know I have been thinking like this for some time, because Mason performs best on slants, curls, combackers, and quick outs than he does on go routes and post patterns and the like. He would make an ideal WR out of the slot and give other teams heartburn trying to lock him down along with 2 outside threats as well. Mark Clayton is developing well there and has the speed for the go route.

DMase is the BEST, don't get me wrong...And I would like to see him get a good contract extension. He deserves that and more.

But wouldn't it be great to see him line up more out of the slot, and see us obtain a great outside speedster with hands ala Reggie Wayne or as in old days Jerry Rice, to complement Mark Clayton?

It's on MY wish list.

That may be the way to step to the next level and defeat the likes of Pittsburgh. Adding Matt Birk to an already deep and talented O line was the first step... Now lets get that prototypical NFL wide receiver!!!

With all of these thoughts in mind, and Joe Flacco at QB, maybe the RAVENS could rival the likes of Indy and Peyton Manning, or NE and Tom Brady in the Offensive dept.
With our emphasis on Defense all these years, what a difference that would make!!! ;)

yeah, he was a guest on Total Access the last two day, I think. When asked about what kind of contract he would want to recieve at the end of next season, he said all he cared about was the years. Rod Woodson even went to far as to say that he should be paid twice as much as he thinks because he's "the leading reciever, and the veteran" but Mason, shrugged that off.

I think we should probably be able to keep him on maybe a 3 year deal, but for dirt cheap, especially because of his age.

And if anybody should be cut to make room for Boldin (which isn't happening, sorry) than it's willie parker.

Also, What's up with Lo Neal????

I still don't understand these guys.... they've made millions upon millions and are under contract. I know one year isn't "security" so to speak, but it's not like they don't have enough money for 10 lifetimes as it is. Stop crying about your contract and continue to be the stand-up player and person that you are, Derrick. This isn't like you, and it's disappointing. We are salary cap-strapped as it is and we want to get YOUNGER and better, in case you missed the memo.
