It will be interesting to see how Ozzie handles this one. He deserves the money but he's also 35...

James Walker from ESPN talked about it in his blog too. Mason is concerned if he gets hurt next season we could cut him leaving him to fend for himself.

Seeing as how many current and former players are really ticked off at us it concerning. Just look at the names Jason Brown, Chris McAlister, Samari Rolle, Suggs (for being franchised again), Ray Lewis (although thats all Rays fault), and now Mason is frustrated. Add to that the other two big free agents we lost in Scott and Leonard and this off season is a disaster. The only bright spot, if you can call it that, is the signing of Foxsworth. But in reality all that is is we overpaid for a career backup corner.

The key to this offseason was retaining our own and not only hasn't that happened but we've managed to make them all angry with us. Its not looking good at this point although its a long time before the season starts.

I say restructure his contract he's earned it. But when push comes to shove if we need the extra cap space for Anquan Boldin I say cut Mason and let Clayton take over for the old man.

Anquan wants to be released. Ozzie PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ offer a trade!

He needs to calm down, we got other issues right now. And he didn't "earn" a new contract. He got paid for what he did in the past few seasons, that's what he earned for playing well. He's 35 right now, nobody's going to offer him a big 3 year deal just so he could feel more secure.

Agreed. I don't think he's what you'd call "unhappy" just a little worried. As any 35 year old WR would be.

That's messed up. You can't put a price tag on heart. D.Mase plays with a passion and he's a trooper. It's tough to find players like him and Suggs in the NFL nowdays!

I agree, I just don't see AZ giving him up

Maybe

I think Mason and Boldin would be a sick combo, but if we get Boldin we're gonna need some extra cap space, and conveniently enough Derrek Mason would save us $3M if he was released...

So would the release of Wille Anderson. But that would just be stupidity

You have to remember... if they get rid of Boldin, they are basically throwing away their chance to resign Warner. And if they don't have Warner... they are screwed.

Meant no disrespect to Mase, I love him to death, as a person and a player.

But unfortunately, we have to deal with the reality that he's 35.

Wow.

How could anyone who watched Derrick Mason continue to get out on the field and play for us with all the abuse his shoulder had taken seriously consider trading him or cutting him. Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves.

The man is a warrior, and he's given this organization everything and more he has in him. Anquan Boldin is just a whiny dude who's jealous of how much better Larry Fitzgerald is than him. Replacing a man of Mason's character with Boldin is completely undesirable for me.

Jeez, it's just business. Stop inserting the heart into it. Everyone knows how great Derrick has been..and everyone also knows his limitations, one of them being age, and the other being his injury. Why is it such a big deal that people would note these two obvious things and not comment on them..considering the fact that the FO is probably thinking the same thing? Character is a great thing for a player to have. But NFL teams don't pay for class, and they don't pay for character.

It depends on his askng price. I dont mind giving Mase an extention as long as it doesnt include a hefty pay raise. I think once we are done with Suggs and hopefully, Ngata, and after we've gotten our rookies signed, we should go a head and give his contract a look. He is our entire wr core at this point.

see this is annoying when players do this i love mason hes done alot of things for this franchise but he has to understand as a player and a teammate we got other things going on like lewis and now birk and we need the extra money hes better off waiting till next offseason but if we have extra after we are totally done then sure give him the extension

I still don't buy the story. A lot of what he "said" could've been out of frustration, and he's been frustrated before. It's not as if the man is going on a T.O. media circus run, so until anything substantial comes out of this story (i.e. a sitdown interview with a national media entity), I'm not even concerned.

And let's get serious...what the hell is JockLife.net? For all we know, they're no more reputable than the website I've been writing for -- a website that relies on user-submitted content. *cough*

Good point. And if he goes all out this year next year when he's a free agent and their is no salary cap he might be better off.

Yes Im serious. Mason is a class-act guy and he's been a great help to Flacco this season. Rolle wouldn't play injured EVER. People DO still care if you have heart! It earns respect!
