Sure looks like St. Louis Rams are shopping Pace, Holt
By Jim Thomas St. Louis Post-Dispatch

"As the frantic first weekend of free agency winds down, all has been quiet with regards to Rams wide receiver Torry Holt and offensive tackle Orlando Pace. General manager Billy Devaney indicated Friday that the Rams, in theory, had enough cap room to sign center Jason Brown, safety James Butler, and re-sign cornerback Ron Bartell without having to tap into the $14 million that would be created by releasing or trading Pace and Holt.

[b]For now, Pace and Holt remain Rams, but league sources are convinced that the team is shopping both players as trade bait. Perhaps the thinking is that once the early buying spree calms down, there will be a market for Pace and Holt _ even if it

In a word: no. Unless they become free agents, then I might consider Pace for cheap. I'd only bring in Holt if Mason abruptly retires.

The Rams wouldn't be trying to trade two of the greatest players in franchise history if they weren't old and on the decline. No thanks.

Derrick Mason and Torry Holt

WOW

we should then change our name to

The Baltimore Convalescent Home

and our practices would consist of shuffleboard and nap times

Haha hey why did we not sign Dawkins, Warner, trade for Vrabel and resign Ray Lewis? Na wait that last one was serious, i would like Ray back (for the right price), but enough talk of trading for old veterans, eh? Youth movement all the way from now on...

Its not just about youth, it is about money. I have no problem with our team being a mix of young, upcoming players and savvy veterans to help the young guys along. I actually prefer it. However, trading for old guys who are due to make 9 and 10 million a year is just stupid. It is all about finding the right player for the right price just like Ozzie believes.

You can't keep pushing for youth all the time, though. Maybe this year, yes. But after a while, if you keep trying to get the team younger, you'll be doing it at the expense of other young players when they become veterans. Great teams know how to have a great balance of youth and age.

Yeah well thats generally what i meant, i didn't mean ship off players once they have finished their rookie contracts lol i was just saying trading for these vets with big contracts is a bad mistake or even signing them for considerable money in FA is a mistake as its obvious players should be paid for their value at the present, not for who they are or past accomplishments.

Another name to toss out there, just for fun...

Washington is cutting Jason Taylor.

I just wanted to add to this that Holt has officially asked to be released from the Rams. I think he would be a great addition to our team. He still has 3 or more years left in him. I would love to get him in a Ravens uniform and he would be a tremendous help to Flacco.

I just wrote something similar in another post.. I think if he gets released and for the right price..I would much rather have him than TO.. He would be a good mentor for our young WR and for whoever we get in the draft, hopefully Robiskie or Britt. I think that it will be hard to get him, alot of teams will be after him.. He has great character and good production and only 32 alot younger than the other FA left.

I say wait it out til March 17th. Holt has already expressed his desire to leave and if the Rams cant get a trade for him which I don't think is going to happen, not with all the vet WR's that are or have been up for grabs this year, then they will release him.

Once he is released I think we can pick him up for a modest contract, maybe 3mil a year for 3 years.

NO trading, I want keep what we have and add depth via the draft.

Yeah I wouldn't want to trade for him. When he is released I would like to pursue him though.

trade or release, I just want the man here. I remember they did a special on him on MNF a few years ago, in the offseason he hires a ballboy to fire him footballs from the passing machine, and dude catches more balls than 10,000 hungry hungry hippos.

I disagree, Holt will only be 33 and is still capable of being that deep threat we've desperately needed. Imagine Holt and Mason with Clayton as the 3... watch out.

This is an easy one for me. Torry Holt. Orlando Pace he's been injured the last couple of years. Torry Holt could be had for cheap. Plus he's still pretty good. We could still draft a WR too as a future replacement for Derrick Mason when he retires eventually(god willing.) :P

Ok, whoever I made fun of for suggesting we pick up Torry Holt....I apologize. I was just frustrated with the all the past Joey Horn, Marvin Harrison, and Keyshawn Johnson revival threads. I overlooked him because of his age, I admit it, but he is still a great football player. I think the Rams hurt his production and it wasn't because he lost it. He still has great hands and knows how to get open. In my defense, I wanted a deep threat and you just don't immediately think Torry Holt, but he is very capable of making catches anywhere on the field. If he was to come here to Baltimore, I would be happy to have him be apart of the team and make us have one of the best receiving cores in football.

Holt is an outstanding talent, and would have a lot of success in B-more. You're right about the effect on the entire receiving corps, too. Holt can beat you deep, runs crisp routes and has outstanding hands. I think the Ravens could get him for a reasonable price, too.

Pace? eeeeeeeeeehhhhhh.....not a good pickup at this time. He's had issues with injuries lately, and the line is already pretty solid from what I've seen. The cost would be more than the value, I'm afraid, and in this case youth is better.

My thoughts exactly....
Can you imagine Mace lined up in single coverage against the other team's No. 2 CB?? He would eat them alive.
Clayton would suck in the slot, but on the other hand, being covered by a nickel would more than make up for it.
And on top of all that, you know Torry's gonna get his.
We've been asking for a red-zone WR for years now; if Holt becomes available, there's our chance.
